Woh! I grew up in Arcata and lived there from 1977 to 1986. I went to St Mary's elementary school, and it looks like it is no longer around. We lived right down the road from Redwood Park's trailhead, and across the street from the most amazing blackberry patch one could possibly hope for. We would walk everywhere, to Crabs games, Straw Hat Pizza, The Blue Max, Bubbles, Rosalindas, Payless...lol. We were able to skateboard everywhere around Humboldt State, and we were never chased away from the campus, like ever. And the redwoods never failed...just never. Argh..I miss it.
I lived in Arcata from August 2012 till September 2020. Nothing beats the sea, the redwood forest, and a dip in the Eel river on a hot summer day. It's the people I got tired of...
Arcata is so funny. I got my hair cut this afternoon on the Plaza and was enjoying the antics of some of the more colorful locals. Same old shenanigans, same old Arcata. Too many fentanyl deaths lately, though. 😢
Ha ha. love it. I grew up in arcata, you definitely captured it. Although we are not all hippies and smokers. When i was growing up here there was a descent punk scene. Arcata has not changed a whole lot over the past 30 years except everyone is now into hillbilly folk music. The hippies used be all about reggae, which i really don't like.
@VanLpz well things are getting different these days and I am a little surprised by my own comment. Anyone of any background can be into any music these days.Like I recall when you never saw saw black kids on skateboards; it was a white kid phenomenon, but thats changed, and I'm glad. And there are other cultures in Arcata, just not on display so much
I would imagine this region of California is uncrowded and in a beautiful setting. Other than that I honestly don't know what to say after watching the entire video.
It use to be said.....you can spot the pot growers by the fact that they come into the car dealership and buy a new four wheel drive truck every year and pay in cash.
All of the reasons I left that cesspool and moved to Texas. I was born and raised in Arcata. I still love it. But not the drug culture that destroyed it.
Its that way because people can be so cruel to where peopke lose jobs and end up homeless and turn to drugs and alcohol. I love living in Humboldt. My only beef with it is its to layed back for my hyper ass.
Eureka ruined arcata. Lol. The pot culture isn't where the crazies come from.. it's the meth and coke ect.. and booze. Most growers hate what's happening as well. . Not to mention everyone enables the homeless to be homeless with all the free handouts in humboldt. It has changed a LOT in last 10 yrs. :(
Congratulations, moron. You moved to shithole Bushville where a Justice of the "Peace" can put you in jail and keep you there and fuck your Constitutional rights. Good job. One less moron giving Cali a bad name. Good riddance.
I live in Arcata, I'm a high school student and i don't smoke pot or anything like that. The plaza is called the Plaza is not the safest place and we are always being judged of crazy homeless people. This video makes us look stupid. No offense, but still.
I'm actually lived all around, Arizona(phoenix, Prescott, Humboldt, Dewy, and Flagstaff), Washington (Seattle, Spokane, Medical lake.) also I'm from South Cal (Rancho coocamaga, Apple valley, L.A) but Arcata is a lot better than fucking Fortuna, McKinleyvill, Loleta, and Eureka. Arcata is best town in Humboldt county
The college is different from how the townies are imo. I didn't go to university there but I lived there for a while and there are a lot of studious and really intelligent kids going to school at HSU. But the town is definitely full of crazies as well so I get the concern.
michael neeley why dont you post some video evidence? I doubt all theese people had it out on you for no reason if you really did get assaulted/harrassed by all those people it was probably for a good reason.
Met the new version of pot growers/manufacture that will soon put small farms out of business. Large industrial facilities, grow, manufacture products and all legal. Nice guy also made a large donation to the fundraiser for kid' cancer. The states which are getting these large company farm will put the small farms out of business and the city will be in trouble. Times are changing.
New Mexico is the land of enchantment

@@Bringadingus "spirituality, for one, is seriously annoying" OMG it is nuts
Those two guys in the beginning makes me not want to go to HSU

Coolest town I have ever lived in
Amazing video, thank you for putting this together.

Dude I grew up in Arcata too...I hope the guy filming knows that Frank Titus is just fuckin with him😂
Lost coast - lost souls.
smart of her to say 'people of different backgrounds' as opposed to 'cultures,' cuz I love Arcata but its pretty darn vanilla

1:39 LMFAO omg he was so high when he said that. No sober person calls this place enchanting.
yes, "out of the question" he was high...

wow what a cool mayor. Very rare to meet an honest politician
Fuck that libtards
It use to be said.....you can spot the pot growers by the fact that they come into the car dealership and buy a new four wheel drive truck every year and pay in cash.
I wanna go!

“Our-cata is awesome”
Yourreka, Mykinnleyville , and Ourcata. 😛

those dudes seem like they b fed up on wut to say burritoes
I'm running for mayors husband
I ultimate feeling of homelessness and the ultimate feeling of free dirty needles in every park
uuhhh...I'm from here...went to HSU...and I couldn't get into it...
get into what? being a drug addict or hsu?
well..I stated I went to HSU so..I obviously got in. And the topic is the video...which is what I couldn't get into.
so being a homeless drug addict... i thought it would pretty easy to do that.
Not sure what u mean, the pot industry? Or the tweakers and drunks from eureka. ? Haha
This place would be my personal hell.
Prozac isn't prescribed for ADD, Methylphenidate, and Amphetamines are... FAR worse.
I wouldn't pay 1 cent for my kid to go to HSU.
The college is different from how the townies are imo. I didn't go to university there but I lived there for a while and there are a lot of studious and really intelligent kids going to school at HSU. But the town is definitely full of crazies as well so I get the concern.
a town that professes to support freedom and dissenting opinion, but bans smoking...
smoking factory cigs is noxious.....how about the freedom to be away from it?
michael neeley why dont you post some video evidence? I doubt all theese people had it out on you for no reason if you really did get assaulted/harrassed by all those people it was probably for a good reason.
Sadly...
it's a liberal town and like most liberal tows they choose speed over any drug
Did you smoke that joint?
Get beer w. Haircut
I got in more trouble for having my 215, than I did when I didn't have a 215 card. the police seem to resent 215.
I tried to get a hair cut at the bluegrass barber> he didn't like "my kind" and wouldn't serve me.
really. why cant every town in america be like Arcata. its dumb
