I don't think KSO was criticizing ren on this one. He got what this one was about. This was the first Ren & Sam video ever done. It's an art peice, not hip hop.
@@sigally Right, KSO just likes to throw in click bait titled "Will hip-hop ever accept Ren?". Why is this question being asked on this particular video? After he trashed "wicked ways" and called it ass, he put "trigger" in that title. So far out of the 40 or so reactors KSO is the only one to hate the song, others loved it. He might not know as much as he thinks he does about ALL rap.
Its defo 1 of lifes toughest questions isnt it like what came 1st the chicken or the egg "is ren a dope singer who can rap his ass off or a dope rapper who can sing his ass off"
He's just a dope artist who can basically do everything. Definitely a singer first I think but he also writes his own beats, produces, does one takes, performs, raps his ass off, crazy flow changes , can play damn near every instrument, battle rap, intelligent. Basically the goat!
Ren and Samuel Perry-Falvey shot this video 8 years ago in December 2015, when Ren was 25. They slept on it for 3 years, until it was finally released in 2018 on Halloween. My guess is that (1) Ren was still tweaking the production of the song itself, and (2) he was waiting until his health improved and his music career was growing again. After his second stem cell treatment in 2017, Ren's health was finally reliable enough to perform scheduled gigs around the UK (but still not good enough for extended touring, and he may never be able to tour like that). He started busking much more around Brighton, mostly with his flatmate Romain Axisa and their friend Gorran Kendall. In December 2017 they started the band The Big Push. In spring 2018, the band released their first single, "It's Alright" (the first arrangement; the version on Spotify is from 2019). In summer 2018, Ren and Sam Tompkins released the single "Blind Eyed", a song that they wrote 3 years earlier in 2015. It went viral around the UK, especially the videos of Ren and Sam busking. The time was right to release "Children of the Moon" in 2018, but Ren held off until Halloween for obvious reasons.
There's actually a video that was posted a little over a month ago from when Ren was at a "freestyle drama/musical" camp in early high school! It was released by the drama teacher and is pretty fun to watch. Things like that are what helped him become so versatile.
Some in mainstream hip hop probably won't accept Ren, but many do. His hip hop is different. This so many musicians and artists really like the tracks that he raps to. The hip hop community has grown and widened alot. Many are tired of the rap that's out there. So I think the answer is some accept him and some don't.
Im not sure that you really understand Ren. You should watch some of the interviews he has given. He just loves music of all kinds and music is not his end game for his career. He also wants to direct and produce film and this was some of his early work.
a cool reaction!! you picked up something when you mentioned about 'something you would do in drama class'...... i think thats spot on and with performances like hi ren, money game 1 and 3, chalk outlines, the tales etc (as well as ren having mentioned it as well) one of his goals would be to get a netflix (or similar) series and i think with songs like this that really dip into the theatrical side its easily possible
Will Hip-Hop ever accept Ren? I remember when I started making candles my friend told me not to share my secrets or I would never be accepted into the Secret Guild of Candlemakers, a secret guild that only existed inside his head. I have a lot more to say about the title of this video but I will hold my tongue for now.
When it comes to his music, I don’t think Ren really gives a shit. Yes of course he likes it if he’s lauded and applauded and people buy his music but the over-riding driver for Ren, is to write the music that he wants to write. If others like it, that’s great, come along for the ride but he’s never not to write music because other’s may not like it, nor will he write music because they will. The result of all this is that Ren is not chasing success , success is chasing him. I say this as someone who doesn’t like all REN’s music, some of it, I can’t stand!
@@supertuscans9512 I enjoy all Rens music...apart from one song, a song called Animal Flow. I dislike it so much that I am currently writing a parody of it called Vegetable Flow.
New Benny Banks video - Dexter’s laboratory! 🔥 BANGER literally just dropped today will be #trending for sure ❗️Beat is outrageous 😤 MUST SEE, He toured and did a feature with Mac miller too, levels! UK legend
I took this as to be more about teens that sleep all day and are out all night. It's playing on that dark lifestyle. ....just how I interpreted this song. While yes, obviously he's also playing on old horror movie themes I would assume to portray how the people who aren't night owls see us.
Hip hop is already and has been accepting Ren. If u don't believe that check out Black Pegasus, Knox Hill, Rykerr...many other hip hop lovers who embraced him from first hearing. Even King Dotta, who is a professional hater, backed off and showed respect. Not sure if the title was real or click bait, if it was worked for me at least
Exactly, he called "wicked ways" ass and Ren needed to listen to more rap. But I saw at least 40 reactors genuinely like that song. Some of those reactors listen to a lot of rap. But KSO would say, hey that song was ass and you all need to listen to more rap because I said it is "ass" so it is because I know best. I did listen to his rapping in the intro video...ummm, so that is good rap?
You fancy yourself the arbiter of what constitutes hip hop, yet in your Wicked Ways reaction you were disgusted by the “liar liar pants on fire” line - with no recognition or acknowledgment that it was a nod to Hip Hop by Dead Prez. I mean… Maybe just let music be music and stop categorizing it. You like it or you don’t, but this constant arrogance about your own encyclopedic knowledge falls down over and over again.
You dont need to be an alien to think the US legal system is nuts, the 'voting' for DA's and Sherriffs, the voting system generally, the healthcare, oh the list goes on.... You just have to be from a European country!😅
This is ska, you never got ska over there. Please try Ghost Town by the Specials, the music will make sense in this tune then. You will love the tune, do a reaction to a new genre.
It is perfectly fine to not vibe with everything but trying to package this work into hip hop isn't right. It is clearly not intended to be categorized as hip hop at all. But even though this is not your usual lunch you had som interesting reactions. I think you have the capacity to go beyond hip hop at times if you want to.
ren was dying 13 years still blood n watched his friend jump die!!!! he cares not you accept him man!!!! ren built fool bigger than ya think boxing stay shape....
Who gives a F##K if they accept Ren or not! He's unique and not restricted to just one genre, like those who try to criticize him!
