FMTV CAT3116 BIG ENGINE COMPONENTS Removal #70

  • In this episode, the turbo, fuel control, 2nd stage fuel filter, fuel-water separator, & engine oil pressure switch are pulled from the CAT 3116 LMTV engine, providing one of the last steps in order to pull the engine. I also build a high capacity oil collection pan to catch waste oil from the engine, transmission and axle gear boxes.
    Thanks Sean Fillner for the easy design of the oil pan. You can find his channel at / sti2nr2

    I'm very familiar with the 3116. Mid to late 90s in everything trucks, heavy equipment, boats etc... they are known to drop a valve . They are throw away motors, very expensive to rebuild, because they have dry sleeves instead of wet sleeves. But they do run decent ...

      Jay well, now I have an extra one. Though, the one I have runs great... good power, and purrs like a lion. (If lions can purr... not sure about that).

    Este governo que você retirou existe algum ponto pra montar ? Ou ele funciona igual uma bomba de alta presao ?

    • @HelicoolsHelipad
      @HelicoolsHelipad  Рік тому

      O controle de combustível funciona como uma bomba de alta pressão. A carga de combustível é medida com precisão e pressurizada pela bomba de injeção de combustível e passada para os injetores de alta pressão por meio de tubos antes de ser pulverizada na câmara de combustão, onde se inflama. Os gases de combustão resultantes acionam o pistão para baixo para produzir o curso de força. The fuel control works like a high pressure pump. The fuel charge is accurately metered and pressurised by the fuel injection pump and passed to the high-pressure injectors via pipes before being sprayed into the combustion chamber, where it ignites. The resulting combustion gasses then drive the piston down to produce the power stroke.

    While you have things apart, you should invest in a FASS. Fuel Air Separator System.
    Oil bypass filter system too. They have a heating element in them to burn off any fuel in the oil.

    • @HelicoolsHelipad
      @HelicoolsHelipad  5 років тому

      That is a good call. For all those reading this thread, do you have a good line on where to find such things... as I have not heard of them before. Sounds great, though!

    • @addamochs

      I don't know about specific models and engine combinations for the FASS. Here's a link to check out. They are available in many sizes. Pickup to semi.

      Here's a link to a good oil bypass filtration system. They're pricey, but filter out the tiny stuff that the main oil filter misses.

    How can I get more power in the Cat 3116??

    • @HelicoolsHelipad
      @HelicoolsHelipad  3 роки тому

      One way is to delete the muffler and the other is to adjust the fuel control/governor assembly. I don't really recommend the later, since you might be asking for a diesel run-away. I have heard of a horse power upgrade that is professionally done at a certified CAT mechanics shop. I don't know much about that one, other that hearing about it from other owners.
