been loving Broke Overland's channel, only found him yesterday but since we all are stuck at home with nothing better to do I have watched most of his videos, he has been doing some beautiful work on his truck.
He does some real meticulous work, especially his interior videos. I like to watch his stuff, too. It is a different perspective and use that he has planned for his LMTV, but it's the differences that make it interesting.
Thanks for the shoutout Dave. Just wait until you get out on the road. The dynamat hoodliner cuts the high frequency whine of the turbo the most but a side benefit is that it cuts down a ton on the heat in the cab, that is normally transmitted through the dog house. if you get the chance, pop a couple of bolts in the holes where the jump seat was bolted. sound is like water, it will "leak" into the cab through every hole. :)
It was an honor to give credit where credit is due. It may not look like it, but there are bolts in the holes... they are just not screwed down very far right now, since the jump seat has been temporarily removed. I have one more piece of sound proofing to use in the area, then it's a seat change. Wish me luck!
No way is it worth leaving 12" of tape on a role. It just feels like an unfinished job at that point. I know if I look hard enough, I'll find a spot for it and feel better about myself for it. :-)
Thanks Robert. The sound quality was better for it as well. Very tight clearance in this area between cab and engine, especially when the cab airbags go back down. Best wishes on your projects!
Great video Dave !! Thermal sound heat insulation makes a big difference. The more you use (everywhere you can) makes it just loveable inside !!! ALL THE BEST TO YOU AND YOURS SIR.
You will be pleasantly surprise with the sound deadening and the lack of heat transfer to the floor of the cab from the engine. I’m glad you decided not to “lurk” this time. Cheers!
The trucks are growing in numbers out on the road for sure! If you want a good driving vehicle from the start, I recommend Martin Laetsch out of Portland, OR.. (FMTV Sales, LLC) I also recommend becoming a part of the LMTV MTV Trucks Facebook page... lots of great folks on there that are eager to help! Great to have you on board! Cheers!
Nice work, Dave. I bought the same stuff after seeing Chad and Sean install it, but have yet to install. Was it one hour job or was it more like two hours? I also got a couple Mega Packs of Dynamat Xtreme for inside the cab and I've already done a 1/4" thick layer of Raptor Liner under the cab and installed Dynamat in the doors.... However, it was over 100˙ today and we don't have AC yet so on our drive this afternoon the windows were wide open. This was our first hot day drive and I found that most of the engine and hub noise comes in through the side windows, especially the turbo wine through the passenger door window. That said, better keep those earmuffs until you have AC!
Ethan Turner it is hard to say, since filming it and dinking around with tripods always slows me down. With a sharp utility knife, spray bottle of solvent, and blue paper towels at the ready, it could be done in an hour, no problem.
With the sound proofing that I’ve done, I don’t have a problem with the noise, windows up or down. Have you done the rear panel, both side panels and cavities, dash mats, and floor mats?
Great work and explanation! Definitely a must have. Look forward to watching your next video. One question though..... did you get sunburned working in there? 🤪. That looked really bright with all that shiny film.
I thought that I had replied to this already... anyway, it was very hot that day, but since I got it done in the morning, it was not that bad. I did get a little cooked, though.
0:15 you have a pretty interesting choice of background music. I'd love to know what track it is. did you party a lot back in the days? greetings from India.
Hi Dave, can you tell me if that insulation also helps keep the floor of the engine hump cooler. The reason I ask is the last time I took my dog with me she felt like a hot dog on the grill. Lol
I have not had the opportunity to test that yet, but Broke Overland commented that the dog house was much cooler! Being that the results should be similar with the same product, I have no reason to doubt him. :-D
Well Mike, a strange thing has happened... the cause of which I do not know. To my ear, the noise level was reduced noticeably. However, my iPhone did not share the same result. The dB level recorded on my phone actually increased from previous results. The medium score was 70-ish dB. I don't know if the app updated and changed parameters, so something else is causing the problem. I have one more item to add, so I hope I can figure out what is going on by then. Thanks for watching and your question. Take care, friend.
@@SeanFillner I still have that harder and thicker mat I got from Lou... gonna use that on the inside under the center mat. That, will do it for me for sound proofing. What a journey!
Hi Dave, That went real well. I'm slowly tring to catch up with you on the sound deadening. I have gone to a junk yard and picked up three hood insulation liners to fit in the engine compartment (dog house). That was my idea of how to approach it anyways. It cost me only like $8. Hey, so how many dB levels did you drop down after installing that??? What's the name of that stuff you used? Thanks for the video!
I've got your details you were asking in the description of the video. I have to tell you, you got me beat by a long-shot on cost effective re-purposing of hood liners! That was a score!
@@HelicoolsHelipad yeah, that's strange. Perhaps the frequency range changed but not the pressure of the sound (which if I recall correctly that is what is being measured by decibels). I'd still call it a win if your hearing is pleased by it! Have a great father's day!! May God bless you and your's
@@davidkloven3720 thank you my friend. I am calling it a win... I was also very pleased with the nice and cool tunnel cover during the parade in Winlock, Washington today. If you are a dad, happy father's day! May Gog also return blessing to you and your family and friends. God is good!
I did not mention the dB levels? It went down slightly... it was more to keep the heat down from making the cab a roasting pan. If I had access to a FLIR back then, I would have shown the effects. All I can do is give a thumbs up to this mod and my recommendation.

When it comes to that type of tape, I always end up using it all. Something therapeutic about shinny tape. :D
Great job, looks very clean.

I’m doing this today and this video is such a great resource to come back a rewatch to see the process.
It is an easy job (relatively speaking) but produces such great results!
What a joy to have a project turn out. High five, Dave, and well done.
Thanks, friend.
Just stumbled on this video. That looks like a professional job!
Free free to stumble on more videos… 😁👍🏼 There’s a lot to choose from, especially if you own an FMTV.
Wonderful video. Thank you for your time and effort.
Glad it was helpful. Thanks for watching!
Hellacool video, fellow army rotor head building out a 97 expedition rig for me and my sons, thanks for the awesome content.
Sounds like fun! I love a good father-son project. Scouts out!
I just ordered two rolls of that stuff. Thanks so much. My mtv will be here in a couple weeks and I’m so pumped.
I'm very happy with the performance of it. Still looks great and holding up very, very well. It is also much cooler on the inside!
Thanks man. This is a must do at my earliest opportunity.
Mine is still in great shape... a must do for sure. It is cheap and does a great job.
Nice and quiet I love that stuff your gonna love it on the hwy too
One last mat to go on the inside, and I'll be done... I think.

John Hutsenpiller Jr thank you, sir! I totally agree!
I like this stuff so much I have seriously contemplated using it as a headliner....
I never though of that, but I'm sure it would work great.
Lurker leaving a comment. Enjoyed the video. Gonna do this to mine soon.

Nice tutorial. Best I've seen in your detailed work.
It was some hot work... being that I had a huge reflector right in front of me and the full sun right behind me. I think it baked my brain.
Thanks for the tips, they are much appreciated
You got it, Greg. Happy that this helped you out.
Definitely doing this insulation!
Good call... It really helped with the heat coming off the engine on the inside, as well as reduced some of the noise.
Do you have an Amazon store link to all of the stuff you used to insulate and sound proof your cab?
No, sorry I do not. Some stuff, like the rubber mats were purchased at Home Depot... cause they were cheap and I happened to spot them one day.
Good stuff! Saved your video and subscribed. Not an LMTV owner yet but hopefully soon!

Have you found a source for a replacement rubber mat that covers the dog-house in the interior of an LMTV ?
I found some suitable mats at HomeDepot. Prices were reasonable.
Thanks I'll use this

The A/C systems in these trucks are deafening. They move a ton of air.

Nice sub count BTW. You are climbing that ladder....
I think I'm going to have to start do more dynamic videos. In motion vehicles are fun to watch for those that don't own an LMTV.
Did it ever come apart? Should I use some fasteners to mechanically secure it? thanks.
It has never come apart yet. Very good quality stuff. Aluminum tape helped the seams.
