  • While I was in Italy I dropped by Sonnect and met with David Scorteccia who designed and manufactures the Sound Bullet audio test unit.
    Lets see how these super cool audio testers are made.

    USB-C = DOUBLE the sales.

    • @DaveRat
      @DaveRat  Рік тому +3

      Rumour has it there will be a larger, more expensive and more featured version that has USB C at some point
      That said, right now these are always sold out so doubling sales would not be helpful.

      @DaveRat  Рік тому +1

      Cool cool, there should be a member link in the descriptions of most of my vids. It's only like $5 a month and the members are pretty much what keeps me doing the vids.
      People have told me that sometime times you need to go to my channel from a computer.
      I also do live zoom chats with members every 3 weeks or so.
      Awesome

    Nice tour. In regards to grounding the shell, Meyer Sound did something different. To prevent static buildup and discharge, a 20 K ohm resistor is connected between the chassis and the connector shell in their powered speakers. Not sure about the rest of their equipment. Only know about the powered speakers because we had a bad ground at one event, so the amp picked up a hum and the XLR signal cable did not carry the full leakage current.

    • @DaveRat
      @DaveRat  Рік тому

      I read an article recently where AES recommends the shell is not grounded due to potential issues of the shell contacting metal objects and inducing hum.
      That said, grounding the shell can add a slight amount of increased shielding for extended XLR cables.
      The issue for the sound bullet is that if the shell was grounded but pin one was lifted it would show the cable as good unless the shell is isolated in the tester

  • @JohnV37
    @JohnV37 Рік тому +1

    Maybe it's been a while since I was in an electronics environment, but is it not odd / not good that everybody is just handling the PCB's and not doing any grounding or anything else to manage electrostatic discharge (ESD)?

      I remember those days when ICs would dry by touching them. I used to work at Hughes aircraft testing parts, modules and Tow Missile systems.
      No need for a strap here, it adds no benefit and gets in the way.

    So cool, good sound specislists are getting scarce. It would be great if the connectors dont get hardsoldered to the board. It could be a failing point at heavy use. "I do not own this product"

      @@DaveRat Sorry for creating some confusion. I don't have any experience with this product. Im a materialplanner for one of the big rental companies in Europe and we try to avoid hardsoldered equipment because it can be a stresspoint. Like blackmagic sdi converters etc. I just wanted to share my experience, it might be a good upgrade or maybe the product is already great as is:). I rephrased my old comment so it doesn't bring wrong information.
