I'm super conflicted about this chapter. On one hand, I feel like he still has so much potential as a character and killing him is a waste of it, however I also think that this is still a pretty dang good end to his character anyway.

I'm also super conflictedn't about this chapter. On one hand, he is the most overrated character in MHA, however I also think that he could actually be a good villain and Horikoshi should have not played the card too soon back in the Forest Training Camp Arc. He should've used the card now.

i just cant wait to see how they'll animate this. imagine him just laying in a pool of his own blood on the ground with the pouring rain with everyone staring in horror and shock, a slow pan up his body or just a shot of his lifeless eyes with his hair slightly blowing in the wind, then a shot of his whole body, and no music at all to give more impact. UGH it's gonna be such a tearjerker and i cant wait im praying bones doesnt fuck it up somehow.

I feel like this is a fakeout exactly because the last thing we saw outside of this fight is AFO literally rewinding himself to his peak form with Eri's power. I see that as direct foreshadowing of Eri directly saving Bakugo.
Read the chapter tho bakugos heart literally explodes. We havent seen anything in this series that can fix those wounds and eri would only rewind him to a quirkless state
@@breakops5339 that's not how her quirk works, although Hori barely explained it too. The quirk erasing bullets were crafted by overhaul to have Eri's quirk rewinding people's cells so to say, in theory it either destroys the part that gives them quirks or just makes it take 4 years for quirks to come back (since people get quirks around 4 years of age) but that part is not explained by Hori and overhaul said it was permanent. It's kinda weird that she rewinded Mirio to un rewind the quirk erasing bullet lmao. If Eri touches the person directly it affects the parts she wants now that she can control it, so she can rewind his whole upper body basically and then they revive him with a defibrilator or.... kaminari.

Imo if Horikoshi was planning to kill off Bakugo, it HAD to be during the first war, I wonder if Deku would’ve been able to express his desire to save Tomura even after he kills his friend? Leading Deku into a conflicting state of mind of wether he should spare villains or not and feeling great responsibility and the burden of holding the most powerful quirk and yet not being able to save those closer to him. Would’ve been more poetic in my eyes.
Bakugo dying here still can produce that effect, as soon as he arrives on the battlefield and sees bakugo dead on the ground his thoughts of saving Shigaraki will clash with his rage of seing Bakugo, who ONLY NOW he's in good terms with, actually can produce a bigger reaction on Deku than it would in the first war
You see I thought bakugo was safe since he didn't die in the first war arc. However, having him die here I think is actually better since we got to see bakugo redeem himself from all the stuff he did to deku. We got to see him grow into who he truly is as a person rather than have him killed off right as he was redeemed

He definitely will have some connection with the 2nd user or Eri to connect a fake-out death. If he's truly gone, that would reinvigorate my interest to the story. Hopefully Horikoshi pushes through with this and doesn't blueball us with the potential of a more intriguing direction with Deku Vs Shiggy; highly doubt he will, though.

Why do people keep throwing in the Eri situation? Hori literally hasn't used Eri to reverse any major character damage or anyone's death since she's been introduced in the series. A bunch of people have died since her introduction and others have sustained serious injuries. It sounds utterly ridiculous to act as if her existence is a problem when Hori has gone out of his way to give her limitations and not even use her in death altering fashion.

I'm skeptical to say Horikoshi has the balls to kill off what is essentially the second main character of his series when it looked like Gran Torino got the same treatment, and as far as we know, he's still kicking. Let's see if this sticks, or if we're going to have another Byakuya situation on our hands, because Bakugou surviving this is like Ace surviving a magma punch through the chest.

No. If it's a fake out, the ending is automatically anti-climatic. You don't just kill characters and revive them afterwards, MHA isn't Dragonball, and trying to Dragonball will only hurt it.

Doesn't nitroglycerine also function kinda like adrenaline? I think there was some theory that's part of why he's got such a temper and why he never tried to fix it, if he gets worked up it increases his sweat production which in turn works him up more, which makes him stronger etc etc. And this can have a really intense affect on the heart.
So if this is the case, if he's actually dead wouldn't it be ironic if the guy most thought was pretty callous and didn't care about anyone, actually died because he cared so much he pushed himself until his own heart exploded?
I bet the second users quirk is adrenaline boost, but because it’s been over 120 years when Izuku uses it as a trump card he’s going to go 1 billion percent.
The second user is probably also an ancestor of Bakugos, and OFA takes the DNA of the users and their quirks. So it explains why Bakugo was able to see All Might as a vestige. It was in his blood.
I'm like 60% sure Horikoshi might go through with it. It's never been shown or stated that Rewind can revive the dead, the explanation we got actually argues against it in my opinion. It was stated that it only works on living things and that it rewinds someone to a ''earlier state''. So if by ''living'' they mean organic or if they mean literally then Eri could not revive Bakugo, maybe she could rewind his body so that his wounds are gone, but I don't think that would revive him if Rewind purely reverse the physical body and not actually like, quickload a prior version of the person. And since he had this for the last chapter before the hiatus I think it might be permanent, which is crazy. I think it fits and Deku will be bloodlusted when he arrives, it's about to get wilder ya'll.

I’d say dividing the fandom and fully killing off the most popular character would definitely be a huge nail in the coffin for MHA. Popular characters can carry a manga, and to kill them off can really start a downfall, on top of it being heavily suggested Horikoshi is rushing to end the series. I hope this truly is a fake-out.
Perhaps one of the OfA users, likely the 2nd user gives up their own existence to revive him, but with the catch that'll he only last a certain number of years before dying again. Like say of the 2nd user lived to about 40, that's how long Bakugo will have before dying.

I’m not saying he’s going to straight up be brought back to life (at least not for him to keep on living past the end of the series), but this is most certainly not the end. They set something up with Bakugo that has yet to fully pay off.
All Might's skinny ass somehow still being alive and even got to stroll around in a park in the middle of a civil war is my main barometer for who's gonna die or not so until Hori draws Bakugo literally 6 feet under he's still alive in my books.

I actually doubt it. If he really arrives to see Bakugo dead, he’s probably going to realize that AFO/Shigaraki want him to get mad and go berserk. He’ll still get mad for sure, but he already went crazy last time this happened to Bakugo and it almost cost him, so he might be able to control himself.

Okay this made me absolutely cry. I still cant believe that Horikoshi had the guts to write this chapter, and to design it. One of the main protagonists dying is literally the hardest thing to write about.
I am not that invested in MHA anymore to cry because of what happnend, but holy shit that was a pretty brutal death for a teenager protag of a shounen manga.
This was a cool chapter, but with how Shonens go and how popular of a character he is. They're definitely gonna do a fake out.
If Bakugo did end up coming back, I’d be cool with it if it was like a post time skip type of deal. Like Eri grew into her powers after a few years and brought him back well after the final arc. Maybe that’s who Izuku is talking to in the opening of the story.

...Katsuki was the character that got me into BNHA/MHA and I've loved the little gremlin ever since. He's come a long way and tried his best to amend his past with Izuku; as someone who was bullied in school also, it was an interesting journey seeing his evolution. As an adult reader of the manga, I couldn't help but feel protective of the students and seeing an adult (AFO/Shiggy) target essentially children (young adults) ticked me off. They're kids. They should be focusing on homework, prom and general teenage angst. Not saving the world from evil. The fact that the Hero Commission also groomed them for this job irked me also. Just how bad was the structure of Heroes worldwide that they had to rely on a hand full of teenagers not even out of school yet? Pitiful. So, naturally, then seeing Bakugou's condition in this latest chapter made me so sad for him. Though he apparently only had one regret in life, I can't help but mourn such a promising young life cut so short (supposedly, for now). While I hope there's a way to revive him, I'm not counting on it and just wish to see him in the vestige world helping Izuku defeat AFO.
I’m not buying it until I see a coffin. The same thing happened to Gran Torino (emotional buildup with flashbacks and getting a hole punched through his chest) and he survived so Bakugou could also.
Nux had been predicting this for years now. I didn't want to believe it, but I had a gut feeling it was going to happen. Is it sudden? Not really, as someone has stated, Bakugo's character arc came full circle when he apologized to Izuku.
And if we're being brutally honest here, Izuku is still no where near ready to face Shigaraki and the death of his best friend, Bakugo will be the harbinger that gets him over the hump.

this was a devastating chapter. i loved the absolute desperation the big 3, jeanist, bakugo, and even shigaraki showed. the art was incredible and conveyed these characters emotions perfectly.

We went through the same beats with Gran Torino. His character had no more to give the story, he got the flashback in the chapter, but despite that the old man still survived being donutted. I wont fall for the same trick twice. until we see the funeral post arc, he's not dead in my eyes. But regardless if Horikoshi goes through with this it still makes no sense that Bakugo would die where GT didn't.
I think people are confusing the damage. It's vague on purpose. I see it as he over exerted himself, and shiggy punched him in the sternum so hard his heart stopped.
With his quirk and how it's used in heart medicine, I see it as a quirk awakening.
The 2nd is 100% an ancestor. We already know that personalities remain after death, and this feels like musan from demon slayer seeing tangiro or the upper moons seeing the sun breathing.
They "remember" it even tho they didn't experience it. Bakugo awakened the memory in shiggy through afo

11:56 what makes a story great by using a death is how the characters feel about the death, not the actual death of a character
in the scene/panel showing bakugos heart you clearly see the tip of one of shiggy fingers coming out of the left side of his heart, it is difficult to make out but if you look closely you can clearly make out the shape of the finger and the finger nail, also eri's quirk is still on cool down after restoring mirios quirk so she is out of the picture as the last time we saw her her horn had only just started regrowing and from what we know it takes several weeks at a minimum for her power to stock pile up enough to where it can be used but likely needs longer to gather enough power to heal some thing like mirios quirks let alone a fatal injury as she wasn't able to save night eye from his death + the story does imply her quirk cannot restore dead things/people and bring them back to life so even if her quirk is ready it's useless + she is no where near the battle field so she can't even try if she wanted 2 and by the time she does get there bakugo would be long dead bc a stabbed/torn/bursted heart kills some one in a matter of seconds (only takes about 15-20 seconds for the blood loss to kill you) so i truly think bakugo is gone esp since the bottom left of the chapters final panel says *the end of a dream* or *the end of dreams* so i think in the next few chapters we are gonna get a MHA version of what happened in the OPM manga where deku/saitama is gonna walk up and have that emotional panel where he realizes that cosmic garou/shiggy/AFO killed genos/bakugo leading to saitama/deku just going ape shit with rage.
Honestly, I loved this conclusion to his character. I hope we get to see him more in the vestige world tho. Either the OFA world (heroes rising is canon) or the AFO world. What if Shigaraki takes his quirk and Bakugou leads a vestige uprising within AFO? Getting revenge and helping save the world even from beyond the grave. That would be pretty sick ngl.

It would be interesting if the made the second movie retroactively canon so Bakugo actually starts to appear within One for All but his original self is dead. I feel like it would be a nice way to keep bakugo in the story without hurting the writing by bringing him back completely. I love bakugo as a character, but I also want My Hero to be a good story, and not devolve like something like dragonball where death has no meaning unless the opponent can blow up the universe.
Perhaps Eri gets hit by a quirk erasing bullet as it seemed to be hinted at, so it closes the idea of bringing people back using her so the story maintains consequences.
Edit: yes I understand that the movie is technically canon to the anime. But its events didnt show in the manga, so it would be super confusing to those who only read the manga

If Eri does bring Bakugo back, I'd honestly preferred if he lost his quirk in the process, ending the story with Izuku as the one with a quirk and Bakugo quirkless, the opposite of how the story starts
IMO this will likely be a fake-out or half dead (like he'll do something but in the end, his body is dead). The fact his death doesn't have any closure unlike the major characters who died in MHA (Twice and Night eye) is telling enough. Bakugou's character has so much more potential.

I agree. I think they should've killed All Might, Aizawa, Hawks, Endeavor, or even maybe Inko. As far as students go, I think (not that I want them to but I think if someone needs to) it should be someone else from 1A that's really well-liked, such as Shoji, Tsu, or Tokoyami. Once again, I have nothing against any of these characters and really like most of them.
As a huge Bakugo fan of course I don’t want him to be killed off, but I also think that him coming back has to be done carefully to make it not feel cheep. He can’t just come back and be at 100% right away there needs to be some lasting damage.
It’s interesting to think about how Horikoshi said that the hero’s rising ending was his original plan for mha. I think seeing a OFA Bakugo and Deku fighting Shigaraki would have been really cool.
I’m also going to be a puddle of tears when this gets animated and we have Nobuhiko Okamoto voice acting this scene😭

There isn't a reason to. Horikoshi, with all of his flaws, knows his characters. He's going to give them fitting endings, and death just doesn't seem as plausible for him.

If Bakugo fucking dies, and Izuku doesn't obliterate Shigaraki with no remorse, I'll lose my shit. If he does come back, I hope he comes back as quirkless and becomes a teacher at UA. Either way this chapter made me emotional as hell so it's worth the bullshit after. If a manga or anime can make me feel something, i think its ok even with a fake out. but holy shit i cant get over it.
I'm betting we'll at least get a couple more chapters if this really is the end of the line for Bakugo. Usually there's a lot more build-up whenever a big character gets axed.

I don't really think he's dead, but dang, it does hit hard. Tbh I don't really care that much for Izuku but I always wanted Bakugo to succeed.
About the Eri theory: I don't think people should be so quick to dismiss it. Yes, I get where they're coming from; I do think it's highly improbable, but not impossible. I mean, maybe Eri wouldn't even have to be on the battlefield. Maybe they could somehow teleport Bakugou to wherever she is or something like that. Once again, these things are very unlikely and a very long shot, but not outside the realm of possibility.
Okay do I think Bakugo is dead (or seconds away form being dead) right now? Yes! Do I think he stays dead? No, and here's why:
Money. Yup, that's it. Horikoshi mentioned that the company (SJ) changed a lot of things about the original story, and I think not letting Bakugo stay dead will be one of them. However, I think there's a decent way for him to come back and it not feel too forced:
Deku arrives/is on his way and sees Bakugo is dead/he shows up in the vestige world. Deku is mad enough to kill but now this fight is truly a test for Deku - does he embrace his emotions and just kill AFO or does he stick to his ideals and save Shimura? I think he saves Shimura and Shimura is able to come up with some combination of AFO's quirks that can save Bakugo.
"But if he could do that, why didn't AFO use those quirks to save his own life?" He did. AFO survived his battle with All-Might because of them. All-Might himself thought he had killed AFO in said battle. And even if he didn't, AFO said that the reason he couldn't keep going in his current body was because his body was getting too old to keep repairing. Bakugo would be on his first repair, so it would still work. The way you have there still be a death in this moment is that even if Bakugo comes back, he's changed. His personality is different and his powers. He can't use them to the same effectiveness. He's a shell of his former self, just like his hero, who he might now resemble with the scare in the place it is. This could also give him a new arc because him and Deku would have basically switched places. If Bakugo is essentially quirkless (can't use it the same way to the same degree) then he has to find other ways to be effective and help others as well as building back his confidence, because I think it would basically be gone after such a horrific loss. We also have to keep in mind that they seem to have found a way to save Aiazwa's childhood friend, the cloud guy, I don't remember his name.
Another thing this moment references is Coulson's death in the first Avengers film. The location of the wound and the trading card being the prime connections. And as I'm sure most know, Coulson didn't stay dead either. MHA has a ton in common with western superhero comics and one of the things they're famous for is death not sticking.
While most about Bakugo's character and story feels VERY nicely wrapped up here and the death/chapter were wonderfully executed, part of how he went out felt unsatisfying to me. Not a single member of class 1-A was on hand to see it, or All-Might. Yes his mentor, Best Jeanist and teacher, Aizawa were there, but it feels like one of his friends should have been right there to witness it, especially Deku. The rest I think worked, but that's a huge part for me, so the moment feels unfinished/slightly undercooked to me. It also feels like there's a lot left to do with him, and I hate to say it, but seeing Deku's reaction isn't as interesting to me because I've already seen, in part, what that looks like (tho I am still looking forward to it). However, if it leads to an actual Prime Deku powerup then I 100% down! I do like Bakugo's death as a test for Deku to see if he will kill or not, and if he doesn't kill that Bakugo's resurrection would be a reward of sorts for sticking to his ideals.
My personal hope is that he comes back because he has become one of my favorite characters in fiction, however MHA would be goated if they stuck with his death. I do like that basically the first time Bakugo looses, he dies. Either way, we shall see.
Untill it's officially confirmed there is no way to bring him back ala nigheye style I'll keep my reservations for now. Great way to end a cliffhanger before a two week break.
The leaks made me think he had a heart attack or something, not that his heart exploded lol. It's an incredibly shocking moment and I'm hoping Horikoshi has something monumental planned that isn't a fakeout.

Wired detail but the second and Bakagos eye brows are different colours, so the Ancestor theory has more behind it, that and I don’t think time travel is going to be used on that scale if at all.
As for Eri if she’s important - she is - I think they are saving her to reverse shigaraki back into tomura, not get rid of quirk, although that’s possible. Basically energy bending but less of an asspull, as it’s set up somewhat. If he comes back it’ll be something more grounded or connected to his quirk or actions directly. I’m 60% - 40% on the side of he’s going to die. But that means I might talk though vestiges.

Amazing chapter. I had tears in my eyes despite leaks AND while not even loving Bakugou that much
But there are 3 outcomes:
1. Horikoshi really did kill off the top most popular character and he's a mad man. About a 60% chance of happening and I'm upset but whatever
2. Anime Bullshit happens and Bakugou comes back to life and helps Deku take down AFO in the final fight. 25% chance of happening and the weakest outcome and I think everyone will hate it
3. We get a time skip or overall delay into Bakugo but he LIVES. However he's permanently disabled and cannot be the hero he wants to be/is like current All Might. 15% chance of happening and my personal favorite as it still packs a punch for story and personal development

bakugos heart exploded/got pierced. Eri already used her quirk on mirio and isnt even near the battlefield. And dekus next quirk is something not healing related. He wanted to move faster with the 2nd users quirk but was stopped by him. Bakugo is death.
Last time I checked there weren't many organs more vital than a heart tho

And as for it maybe being a fakeout. His heart blew up. So like, if he'd been stabbed that's one thing but it looked like his heart exploded. No faking out that imo.
As for the second user, what if it's an ancestor of bakugos with a similar quirk. Maybe Midoriya will activate that quirk after seeing bakugo dead. Would be cool to see him Essentially use bakugos quirk to fight shigaraki. Who knows tho I'm just excited to see where it goes.
Personally, I'd say that Shigaraki might've done a good thing, and kakyoin'd Bakugo in the chest, by simply allowing the explosive to come out of one area of the heart rather than, what could've been worse, the heart becoming a grenade and just detonating entirely. That being said, if Izuku does show up now, he will undoubtedly take control first and have them deliver Bakugo to an emergency bay where Eri (high doubt since you know, she's a child and they don't want her in harm's way), or even Recovery Girl is (bet you didn't remember her being a thing). In the meantime, Izuku is definitely gonna go Gon on Shigaraki for a while before he realizes the Shimura inside and snaps back (yes, because he still has to be the "hero" he wishes to 'save' Shimura).
That or only the later happens and eventually Izuku gets told of the second's power and uses it to 'save' Bakugo before getting him off the battlefield.
I was really hoping to see Bakugo and Deku fight alongside each other against AFO.
I think it’s still possible (don’t know how exactly). The Star and Stripes battle basically revealed that the only real way to defeat AFO is by attacking him and/or his quirks from inside the vestige world (Shigaraki is pretty much unkillable, and Deku made it very clear that he doesn’t want to kill him anyway), so that’s very likely where the final battle will take place, and SOMEHOW Bakugo could perhaps join the fight there.

There is one reason I doubt he will completely die. Izuku in the future says he became the greatest hero. Now I don’t know if he would ever forgive himself for being gone while Bakugo dies. I don’t think he would ever call himself the greatest hero of that were to happen. Bakugo being probably my favorite anime character of all time, I’m hoping that I am right.
I've also been saying that to my friend. When deku said he was the greatest hero, he sounded too happy. Everybody moves on but if the person closest to him is dead, then it'll definitely be a huge blow to him.
if your theory is correct about his quirk damaging him to that extent that can lend credence to what the doctor said about quirks becoming too powerful that oneday humans will burst from their own power if i remember what he said correctly

I feel like a fake death, normally jn manga when the character really die they put it like a epic death thst almost kill the bad guy and all the drama but this one is just so obvious a fakeout
I kinda think this might be a fake out. Please correct me if I’m wrong. But his death didn’t really… do anything. He’s analyzing the fight, jumps back in, dodges a few hits, somehow manages to freak All for One out, and then just gets stabbed. He doesn’t save anyone, he doesn’t set the ground work for someone else to do something, it wasn’t a distraction or a move that crippled Shigaraki. And the whole dodging thing and bit about the enhanced speed of his quirk only lasts like two seconds. I don’t get it. Now yeah, bleak, out of nowhere, non-glorious deaths do absolutely occur. But man I was not, and still am not expecting this story to go for something like that with Bakugo. Lemme know if I’m missing something but I really don’t get what any of that was building up to if the dudes just dead. It feels uncharacteristically blunt and cruel for a Shonen series. I’m currently thinking he went and let himself get stabbed for some reason

Bro I don't even read mha, but I saw your post about it and had to check myself and I was so fucking shocked when I saw that last page. I swear I'd be less surprised if I saw someone like law from one piece die, and he's my favorite character from my favorite Shonen. This chapter had me emotional for no damn reason.
I do hope he comes back. I do not think a death necessarily enhances the enjoyment of a series.. I have been enjoying it through all the up and downs.
