In the book, Captian Ferreira wanted custody of Blackthorne in order to torture and kill him. Blackthorne was actually on the Black Ship, and they fed him (he was starving for European food) and got him drunk as well. When Rodriguez clued in to what was going to happen, he had him tossed overboard on the pretext of sobering him up, knowing that Blackthorne could swim, thereby ensuring that he could get back to his ship. That's when they raced toward the Harbor mouth and crashed through the barricade of fishing boats.
23:44 "Hatamoto. What does that mean?". Hatamoto translates to Flagman or Guardian of the Banner. It is a high ranking samurai serving a feudal lord. He has audience rights to his lord. A hatamoto is expected to die in the service of his lord. Either by dying in battle or committing seppuku alongside his lord when he surrenders.
The Blackthorne/Rodriguez banter in this episode is everything. Also, Fuji-sama is number one. She is precious, and she must be protected at ALL COSTS. Many of us feel extremely protective of her 😅
The Taiko's wife is Dayoin, the Buddhist Nun who tried to talk Toranaga into taking power and becoming Shogun in the first episode. She's the Wife. Lady Ochiba is the younger beautiful woman with the sus facial expressions from the 2nd episode. Ochiba is the Taiko's Consort, and the woman who gave the Taiko a son. Mother of the Heir, she was his Consort, not his Wife. (He could have taken any number of wives, as Toranaga has, but wives were for political alliances, and Consorts were for other reasons. (Yes, sex, but also an economic role in helping the Wife to run the household and the properties of their Lord.)

😂I would’ve like to see that version on the show as well

Wow. I mean…that’s some upgrade Blackthorne’s just been given then.
@@RamblersInc You will see in the next episode how much of an upgrade it is
Enjoyed your reaction, thanks.

Yeeeahhh. That’s weird. Why am I really protective of her? But also want her to be this badass by the end of the season.
@@RamblersInc Because you're under the same spell as the rest of us! 😁
The script only goes from good to better.
One of my favorite episodes. All episodes are great

Love the comments that educate. Thank you.
Thanks for explaining the dynamics. I was a little confused at first about who’s married to whom
This is the kind of show I love! Nothing happens for an hour and still at the end I’m left speechless.
You just know that something crazy is going to happen in every ending 😂
nautical jokes and swears 😆
😂 that scene was too funny
