Crankshaft for me. I have had my Gascans for years the matte black finish but the “O” on the sides started chipping away so I don’t like wearing them any longer because they look as if they could be a knock off because of that and they are in fact Oakleys purchased from Oakley. Plus they like to slide down my face the moment I start sweating. Almost wish they had like a rubber lining around nose area. I also still have my pair of Canteen Oakleys that were replaced by the Gascans Oakley stopped making and those had rubbber where they sit at your ear and on the nose, but they were so small compared to the Gascans. Which is why Oakley started making Gascans to make them larger as that started becoming a more popular trend. Crazy to hear people with smaller heads/faces saying the Crankshafts fit them better. I wouldn’t think with the nose area being wider which is what has had me hold off buying a pair before trying on a pair at an Oakley store and not just buying them from Oakley online. I like that the Crankshafts are larger around the eyes. Almost feel like the Gascans gave me kind of an evil look haha like the way they are curved on top around your eyebrow area. If I get these Crankshafts they will make a 3rd pair for me but like I said my Gascans are all chipped up on the “O” and no sooner than I bought a new pair of lenses for them the last time they were scratched up a month later and I take care of my sunglasses, especially when you’re dropping a $100 or more on them.
I spent a long, very frustrating time searching for sunglasses and finally found my pair with the Crankshaft. My head is on the medium to small side but I have a wide nose. Both the Gascans and Fuel Cells sat too high on my face. The Crankshaft maintains that small style with a wider angle at the bridge that’s perfect for my nose. It feels like these were made for my face. They’re great for driving, you get full protection for side glare but they maintain good peripheral vision, and the thicker temple arms make them extremely comfortable. Heard Oakley is discontinuing them which is unfortunate, hope they bring the Crankshaft back or a similar style. There aren’t enough small sunglasses styles out there designed like this. Oakley should just add swappable bridge sizes in all their popular lifestyle frames similar to their Rx line.
Been owning gascans for a while. I think I’m jumping on these crankshafts!
Hello Cesar! Thanks for commenting!
These guys deserved a subscribe
I will find out if I like the crankshaft, I just ordered them from Oakley. But I think I made a good choice on the crankshaft after watching this review.
Awesome! Glad we could help!
Are any of these good for a big head? I found the Sliver XLs went past my eyebrows and I have a big head. Am on a budget. Been wondering what would be in the $100 range that's polarized for a big head that doesn't go past the eyebrow.
I also thought that the crankshaft fit a lot more comfortably. But now I am seeing that it has been discontinued? How long did it last? Do you guys know what happened? Is the gascan such a staple and so tried & true that people never really made the switch?
Hi Carl! We are not sure why it was disco'd but that may be the case...The Gascan, Turbine, and Fuel Cell are still here for your wraparound needs though!
Can find the crankshafts on oakleysi only replacement lenses
Cant*
Is the batwolf and Satu rectangle the best??
Hi! Not familiar with the 'Satu', but the Batwolf is great frame that's been a staple of Oakley's line for some time
Hello SportRx can you please do the video of Oakley Turbine vs Oakley Straightlink. Thank you
Hey Primoz! I will make sure to speak with Sunglass Rob and see if we can get a review video up of the Oakley Turbine vs Straightlink :)
I have a smaller head and after trying on Fuel Cell, Gascan, and Crankshaft in the store, the newer Crankshaft just fit more comfortably, both how it feel and look.
After seeing the numbers you list, I'm surprised the slightly smaller Gascan didn't fit better.
I'm also amazed that Oakley is still selling (and pushing) truckloads of the older two styles considering that anytime I hear or read a comparison, everyone agrees that the newer Crankshaft fits more comfortably.
At this point in time, 2 years after the vid, color options are much less for the Crankshaft than Gascan or Fuel Cell.
Odd.
Hi there! You bring up a good point. The Crankshaft has been discontinued for some time.
I can’t find the Oakley Crankshaft in Prizm P
Hey Miguel, it's a discontinued model but you can still find a few of them online, usually from private sellers. Most of the frames come with non-polar prizm but you may still be able to find one paired with a polarized lens.
Just ordered my crankshafts..
I guess I need some with unobtainium since I run a lot
A must for runners! Unobtanium or rubber temple inlays get tackier when you start to sweat, ensuring a non slip grip on one's face. 😎
Gascan in my opinion!
Can the glass have feature like safety glass? Like impact resistant.
Hello! The Gascan & Crankshaft unfortunately do not come with an ANSI rating BUT check out the Shocktube & Det Cord if you require a safety rated frame!

@@sportrxeyewear thanks for the fast reply. So which model have high impact resistance suitable for out door activities such as riding a bike etc. Thanks.
Gascans look cool but are not comfortable at all. Lots of air gaps too. Cranks are much more comfortable. Better light isolation. Just a tad too deep on the face for me.
Thanks for sharing your insight with us!
between the Conductor and gascan which one would be more of an asian fit?
Hey Mixdj3000! Neither of those frames is considered good for an Asian fit face. However, if we had to choose the Conductor would be the better option. It comes with adjustable nose pads that allow them to work with a variety of face shapes.
thanks for your opinion ! I'm asking for a friend he's final choices are between the Crankshaft , Conductor 6 and the Gascan
No problem! If he wants to try them on before making a final choice we offer a test run program. Essentially your friend will pay for the non-Rx frames but it will be a down deposit until we get the frames back. Once we receive the frames we will refund you right away, but this gives your friend an opportunity to make sure the fit is perfect.
0:35 Didn't know "moderized" was a word lol
I wonder why they call them Gascans?
plejaren giants shaped like a gascan
Can you give me a pair of glasses that are not very cool in GASCAN glasses?
Hello Hien! I am not sure that I fully understand your question. Are you looking for lenses for your Gascans? If so, we would be more than happy to help you out! You can reahc a certified optician at (888) 831-5817 and they can explain all of the lens options that we have for you!
Crankshaft is nicer in my opinion
Gascan.
