I have a Toyota RAV4 2009. I also wanted to keep my back seats in, so I made a concertina bed. I has 3 fold points and folds back into the boot area when I need the seats. It rests on the folded seat at the top and I followed that height to the back so I can sit up in bed. It has a small amount of storage space underneath at the back, 12cm, I used small round wooden cabinet legs to raise it, which stopped it buckling as yours did. I covered it with cheep hardwearing carpet and use my blow up mattress, I might try your idea of padding but it has to be removable so the concertina works. Thanks for the ideas. 👍🏻
Love the bed idea, especially how compact it folds up to carry and store. Off to the big city tomorrow to look at vans, can’t wait to get out there. PS that ending needed a warning! My heart stopped when the bike skidded. 😱
The brackets need to be on the inside of the leg and bed. But my opinion you could just use locking rollers on bottom to make it easier to remove from vehicle. Your handle can be replaced with a suitcase handle like so you can push it in when sleeping and pull it out when you need to carry it or roll it on wheels. Just a tip. Thanks for your video
Fabulous, Martha. I am on your wavelength! I love things that are minimal, convertible and custom made! But you carry it out and I just think about it! Your videos are very instructive! 😅 G Ire
Just found your videos while looking for ideas to set up my midsize suv. Love your ideas. Fantastic video with great up close shots & details. Will attempt to copy your bed idea.
Looks great, simple but nice. I'm trying to watch all your videos and it really encourages me to go camping solo. I've been camping with my family, but I want to go solo. Watching your videos telling myself I can do it. 😀
So creative, I've not seen a bed platform like that before. So cool how it folds up and can access the storage underneath. Sweet night stand too. YIKES, be careful.
Okay, so ive watched your videos making this nifty folding bedframe a couple times and you have inspired me! I'm going to attempt to make my own version! I'm not too handy but have a mind to figure it out. Thanks for the inspiration!!
omg I have just found your channel, you are amazing with the ideas for your vehicle. I have a small Berlingo and can not decide whether to take the seats out and have something permanent or go with your fab ideas.....wish i had your skill though...keep these vids coming
Thanks and welcome! It's been 4 years and I *still* haven't decided whether or not I'm taking my seats out. So far, I've managed to avoid it, but that could always change. 😂
Hi! Nice video. If you nail a couple of half-rounds around the edges of your night stand, it will keep your keys and anything else from sliding off if you bump it in the night. Safe travels!
I want to make this for my 4Runner! Can you tell me the approximate weight of the bed? I am concerned it will be too heavy for me to take in and out by myself.
LOL I cannot afford the copyrights for Pat! 😂. I am sure it was one of the many talented artists from the UA-cam Studio Audio Library. Since this video is older, it's on my old computer. If I get a moment, I'll fire it up and have a look around. 😬
Links for the hardware I used are in the description. I believe specs / dimensions should be in the previous video: ua-cam.com/video/9csxixiITTY/v-deo.html Currently shopping for a good digital downloads platform. Whenever I manage to settle on one, I'll offer up plans.
This is the bed build I’ve been looking for. Most practical and minimalist concept I have seen. You did and amazing job.
Thank you! Minimalism ftw 🙌
This is the best video for practical use I have seen amazing job

That sounds like a brilliant design! Once the yoga mat wears out (probably won't be long), I'll replace it with dense carpet padding.
I am a 4runner owner & I've been a subscriber for a time. I appreciate your creativity, but this is 4runner masterpiece blueprint you should patent. 🍻
Wow, thank you!
Trial and error and figuring things out…love it!

lol mine too! 😅 Hope you find a winner!
Clever and foldable and compact. Love it!
You're just kick butt. I'm so impressed.

Came from suvrving tour video. Clever builds
Found you today on Tristan's channel. I can see I've got some catching up to do! Love the bed and kitchen! And that little ode to the artist :-)
I think your ideas are brilliant and well thought out. Was looking to replace my platform and your plan fits my needs. Thank You so much for sharing!
excellent!!
I like it. Nice and simple.
Super nice!

It's by no means perfect, so I love that it's a starting point, for people to riff on. Best of luck with your build; you've got this!

something to remember when dealing with pine. allways predrill ie. pilot hole before putting in a screw. this will prevent the splitting.
I'm gonna try and build this! Wish me luck!
Woo! You got this!

Good call! I did add a couple mug hooks, later on. One is always for keys. 😊

A travesty! I always know in my heart, it’s still there, and I have a little bit of Dougie with me🥰
I want to make this for my 4Runner! Can you tell me the approximate weight of the bed? I am concerned it will be too heavy for me to take in and out by myself.
It’s pretty light. I’d say about 10-15lbs 😊
Carolyn sent me 👏👏
great job 👍🏼
Great video
Looks great! Feeling a little jelly that my 4R has the goofy slide out tray. 😒
Kind of jelly of your OEM leveler, tbh 😂
I'm glad you didn't die! I wouldn't of got the great tips;)
Is there a chance you have a document of all the materials & instructions to make this ?
Unfortunately I do not. It is on my list to make one for my Patreon shop.
@@ShoestringMarthaany update? Getting ready to do a build for the upcoming winter
I love the music you used while padding your foldaway..it sounded like Pat Metheny?? Plz advise!

Sorry I'm late, but you could have made a fabric or leather strap handle. However the hole is a good idea too. 😍
That would also totally work! Thanks for the the idea.
❤TFS!
I love your voice
Can I hire you
Maybe camper builder will be my career in retirement 😂
So if we don’t want to build one you can do it for us for $?! 😃
Don't be giving me ideas about starting a third career as a traveling custom camper module builder 😆
What’s the dimensions
64" long, 20" wide, 4" tall at the head, and 6" tall at the foot.
@@ShoestringMartha Just got my van seats out. Whew! Don't think I can do this, but what are dimensions of a hinged section? Brilliant job.
The center section is 6" long and the other two are 29" long - hope this helps!
Cool bed design. ‘And I nearly die a couple of times.’ 😮😂😂😂
Be careful. Mountain biking can be hazardous.. 🙂
True story! 😅😅😅
