    Listen to the relaxing sounds of me shaving with a straight razor. We start off with the sound of me setting something down on the counter. We then transition into the squeaky sound of a facet turning on and the relaxing flow of water. This is followed by the soft, relaxing sound of a badger hair brush being lathered with shave soap and subsequently the lathering of my beard. Finally, we finish it off with a super relaxing, super scratchy straight razor shave.

    I did a full beard straight razor shave. Did a great job for my first time. The moustache area was the fun part and felt good. Unfortunately I looked way more ugly than I usually do so my daughter and wife told me never to shave again. Its true though, ugly!

      lol, I'm sure they'll get used to it if you keep it shaved. Even if I don't shave for 1 - 2 months it's a bit jarring to look in the mirror at myself right after I shave.
      Congrats on the straight razor shave! I think the mustache area took me a little bit to get down and the chin area.

      It's not that you look ugly after a shave. It's that they're not used to it, and bothers them that you look like a totally different person.

    One thing I realize is just shave your face with the razor- just trust yourself go through the process and don't go so quickly or harsh/hard with the razor to cut whatever hair trying to get off. Calm slow and steady (though I just want to get the shaving done quickly) and hopefully efficiently will get the shaving done quickly I hope and or know.

      You are definitely going to nick yourself when you're learning to shave with a straight razor. I recommend shaving the flat parts of your face first and finishing the rest of your face with your regular razor.
      Over time you get more comfortable using it and you can learn to shave the more complicated areas of your face.
      I start with the blade relatively flat against my face and slowly increase the angle until it starts cutting through the hair.

    How do you replace the blade? And does it workfor people who get razor burn? I bought a double edged safety razor because of how cheap it is for new blades but cut myself like crazy because it couldn't get all of the hair off my face, especially under my chin.

    • @ShaveWithThomas
      @ShaveWithThomas  2 місяці тому +2

      This is a true straight razor. You don’t replace the blade, you hone and strop it to maintain the edge. A lot of people report less razor burn because of less blades.
      It sounds like you might be holding it at too steep an angle. There is a learning curve to it. The more you use it the easier it gets. If you get frustrated, just finish the difficult parts with your regular razor. Each time you shave try to do a little bit more with your safety razor.

    • @ShaveWithThomas
      @ShaveWithThomas  11 місяців тому +1

      With a true straight razor you don’t change the blade, you hone it or pay someone else to hone it.
      If you’re able to change the blade on it, then it’s more of a shavette.
      Either way, if it doesn’t seem like it’s shaving like it used to, then it’s probably time for a blade swap or honing. If it’s a true straight razor you might be able to use some strop paste as well.
