Flaco, escaped from Central Park Zoo in Feb 2023, has been enjoying freedom in Central Park in New York City for 7 months. Sleepy Flaco preparing for hunting by preening, stretching like doing yoga around North Meadow in the summer evening.

Flaco came to the zoo in 2010 so he lived to be at least 14-15. These owls can live 15-20 years. Caged for 13 years and free for one. I am glad he got to spend his last year free the way nature made him to be. RIP Flaco.

No. They announced they would allow him to remain free since he appears to be thriving on his own and enjoying freedom. Also thousands of signatures were penned on a petition to keep him free. 😊
@jennifreak63 as someone here says no females of his species so he'll never mate, poor guy.
