      Zimorog Band Hi, I'm a drummer and vocalist and I started playing in a band... for our proper works we chose to play a mix of black metal and beatdown/downtempo (not like those "blackened deathcore" bands that are coming, I think that they haven't much black in their music). Just to know, do you think it could be a thing? Without being "poser"(joking XD)

      Davide Rosu i recently became the guitarist in a hardcore band and they've been asking me to write beatdown riffs for it, but im more into black metal so i'm integrating a slight blackened style woth it and they love it. look up Dark Sermon for blackened hardcore

    I've been playing shitty amateur music for years and tonight I'm having my first rehearsal where I'll actually be playing guitar in an actual band. I've never taken a lesson in my life, so I'm glad you put this video up!
    Although it's a doom metal band so I'll probably just be playing one power chord every 4-5 seconds.

    The only thing I also learned somewhere on Black Metal guitars are the interval chords where sometimes you use either strum around 2 or three strings depending on what the notes are.

    Amazing Channel! The first exercises i start learning in my first guitar, after many months working for buy it, was your 5 exercises in this video.... By the way, before i choose my guitar i saw your video about how we choose a black metal guitar... if i didn´t watch your channel, probabably i didn´t learn anything at all about black metal and guitars... and it was a tragedy! I learn a lot with this video ! Thanks!

    G string... Hmmm... :)

  • @T-roccBABY
    @T-roccBABY 3 роки тому

    Do you have pretty stiff strings and a flexible pick? I find using regular slinkies with a stiffer pick can get mucky, tend to drag the string if I'm going faster.
    It's been a few years since I truly picked up my guitar but I'm hoping to maybe record some stuff. I'd probably use e drums, hopefully find a way to make it work, like say Planning for Burial on some tracks or what Have a Nice Life did with Deathconsciousness, but with the BM feel of say something like Këkht Aräkh/Minenwerfer/Begotten and hopefully rewire an old rotary phone for a mic for a warmer, fuzzy lofi sound. Sort of like Burzum with the old heli/plane mic (or was it just an old computer microphone?I don't remember now) but with a less screechy monotone sound. I've got zero recording equipment or programs though so who knows haha.

    • @zimorog
      @zimorog  8 років тому

      I woudn't really put woy in prog black metal. I like some tunes but i'm not so much into them. I like band called Code in prog black metal. Not really that much for me but i don't have anything against that sub genre :)

    • @himbo7772
      @himbo7772 8 років тому

      Zimorog Band honestly I'm 100% new to black metal, aside from a few songs I really don't have any experience in that genre, so I apologize if me calling WOY prog black seemed like a childish mistake. and I asked because I always got the impression that many people into raw black metal had a general dislike for the more progressive scene

    • @zimorog
      @zimorog  8 років тому

      No need to apology because of that xD I am not a puritist. If you like something you should listen to it, no matter what anyone tells you. I'm into raw bm and i'm ok with it :)

    • @capitanfersparrow

      notquitemytempo I know, I use to play in drop C, so I though that due to the "heaviness, darkness and true evilness" of black metal I should play in a similar tone... I guess I need keep training my ears.

      My favorite black metal band is burzum. Its actually one guy who recorded some defining albums of the genre. Look him up. Burzum only recorded, never played live. Burzum(vary) intentionally used the shittiest equipment he could find to record those classic albums. Some off brand guitar (later he got a peavey guitar) and a 10 watt Marshall amp. So basically it doesn't matter.

    • @the80sliveagain63

      Zimorog Band I was asking if you can explain it anyways. That's cool you don't have to.

    • @zimorog
      @zimorog  7 років тому

      sorry man.. well it's hard to explain black metal.. but in few words: black metal leads more to simplistic sounds without much melody.. some of goals is that music is recorded more raw and technique is almost non existent. So that's opposite from melodic death

    • @goddessintriptych7046
      @goddessintriptych7046 7 років тому +2

      I'd say that there is more palm-muting in Melodic Death Metal riffs and it anchors to the base note (E or D, or whatever tuning you're in). Aside from that, there isn't really much difference at all. A good example of a melodic Death Metal riff would be Immortal's Mountains of Might (first riff), while the second riff is more traditionally Black Metal, transitioning back to Melodic Death with the third riff.

    • @eternalvoid2678
      @eternalvoid2678 7 років тому

      The difference is not so much in the technique, but more in the composition. Melodic death metal usually relies on power chords and consonant solo's/riffs, typically in a minor scale. Black metal on the other hand often uses more dissonances (for example diminished chords) and diatonic chord progressions. I wouldn't say black metal is more simple; from a theoretical point of view it isn't in most cases.
      Rhythm is also different. Most melodic death metal uses traditional metal rhythms (with some double bass added), while black metal tends to use more blast-beats and other punk-influenced rhythms.
      Hope that helps! It's a bit of a generalization, so this definitely doesn't work for all bands :)

    • @zimorog
      @zimorog  5 років тому

      really?

    • @BreizhButter
      @BreizhButter 5 років тому

      Yep. Come on, you know that jazz takes more than just noodling random barre chords over your fretbord. It's a very structured language, of shapes, modes and progressions which you can hardly skip if you want to make any kind of quality improvement. My point is : your point on proposing the fourth exercise as a good exercise for jazz is hardly convincing.
      By the way, sorry for making such harsh comments. The truth is I was expecting a more consistent, diverse and more efficient video from you considering my interset for Zimorog's music.
      Interesting exercises anyway. Thank you and keep sharing with us please !

      This is a common guitar scale used as a warmup. Some call it a scale in style of a chromatic scale. or chromatic warmup. There is no actual names and i said we'll call it my way :P
