- Toasting your own oak aging sticks at home can be very satisfying. In this video, I show you a very simple way to do it in your oven. Be sure when choosing to toast or char your own oak that the oak you use is well seasoned and dried.

@@RoxanaRandomStuff11 that's awesome. It's a long and fun filled journey.
Yes I want to see how to season Oak. Also, you said 1,2,3 hour toasting of the sticks but I think you meant 2,3,4 hr on the sticks.
Lol, yeah I goof my words all the time 😅. Thanks for the comment.
Great video! This is need to know stuff for anyone interested in oaking/aging
Thank you, brother.
@@StillnTheClear seriously......I didn't realize how simple toasting could be. You took the guess work out of it.
Thanks Cyrus, very informative...
Can't you just buy a piece of oak from home depot that has been kilm dried
Yes, you can.
Would like to know where to source oak, then process it to use in my Mead. Great channel!

Great video Cyrus! Lmao "the smellivision setting"
I will be curious to see how many people started to scroll before think "Wait a minute."
Excellent information Sir. thanks for sharing 🥃
Consider using your enclosed gas grill for charring your oak chips and strips. Doesn't smoke up the house and it keeps your wife happy.
I have a question if anybody can dance with me that would be great I live in East Tennessee and I want to know about my Tennessee Red Oak and if I can use it as a rapid age wood through Heating and Cooling Cycles
I can't speak specifically about TN Red Oak, but it has been my experience that red oak produces a bitterness that I don't like. I would say that there's only one way to find out if you like it. Give it a try and let us know what you think.
Smellavision😂👍
I like making the toast wood.. Its great,.
I think you had your times off by an hr.....
It depends on what I'm after, but 3 hr is a good average for me.
how do you season oak?
Very informative

As beeing new the the hobby and your community absolutely please do video on seasoning
It seems I will be doing a video on seasoning.
Everyone uses barrel pieces. I live in northern remote ass Wisconsin. No barrels to harvest around here. However there is no shortage of oak and other aging woods. Can't find one video on how to harvest, dry, and toast from the wild. This was done for hundreds of years with an axe and fire, why can't I find any information on it?
I can start on a video about how I season oak, but it will be a while
@@StillnTheClear eh. Just frustrated. I think I have it figured out, I'll just use common sense. Been a woodworker for many years, just haven't done this.
Yes how do you season oak?
I will start working on a video. Thanks for the comment.
Can I use kiln dried oak? I ha e an amish guy near me that I can get it from
Yes, it will work well.
Where do we get toasted oak sticks and chips? Supplier ? Just about ready for a grain kit. Thanks
I’m wearing the same flannel!
Love this channel! I’m inspired!
Make the video for seasoning the wood!
Okay, thanks
Great video. Thanks,
You're welcome, I'm glad you liked it.
Thanks for the info! Btw those cabinets behind you are really cool
do a video on seasoning oak for spirits
Looks like I will be doing one. Several people have asked for it.
Yes, do a video on how to season oak. GREAT Video!
Does doing this smoke a lot in the house ?
No, but it does smell like cooking wood.
Just got some white oak going to make some for my homemade wine perfect video and really helpful 👍
As always most informative thanks a lot 👍
Great video - well made and very informative, thank you!
Here's a question I don't know the answer to .... Can you simply re-toast oak, over and over again - or is there a fixed life span to re-toasting, where the oak eventually gets 'all used up' and you need to start again with fresh chunks or chips?
Again - thanks for sharing your knowledge with us
Yes, you will notice a lack of effectiveness over multiple uses. As far as re- toasting, I've never tried it.
@@StillnTheClear I had a question and I am hoping you could help me out. I have a 40% alcohol liquor. If I make an apple pie infusion with apple juice and apple cider and the ABV would be 25% in the final product, would I need to infuse it in the refrigerator? Or would the Alcohol preserve it during the infusion.
Aren't the chips already toasted to JD specs?
The JD chips are toasted originally, but the barrels are used barrels and once the staves have been 'chipped' there is a lot of exposed wood on the chips that weren't exposed to the original toasting process.
does it matter red versus white oak
well that was fun ... 330 degrees for an hour and my white oak is pretty cooked ... not sure why or what happened
