This duo of Natalia lafourcade and Jaun Gabriel is so beautiful and romantic. I had to take my wife's hand and dance with her in the living room when I first heard this song. You can really hear the deep passion flowing back and forth between the two..

It's such beautiful song yeah but it's a bittersweet moment as well as this one is one of the last ones he performed and composed before he passed away. This was the single, or one of them at least, of this last album full of duets with a whole host of different music artists.
Loved how you enjoyed the whole piece and gave it a good and proper analysis. I kinda remember the Mexican media didn't like the song too much due to its simplicity but what you just pointed out is what makes it a great song. Thanks Beth!
Just a clarification, this is a fragment of a song that he composed way earlier than that (~1990). It is called "Lentamente" and it's lengthy (8 min or so). This fragment is about half of that song. There is a video with JG singing it live somewhere in UA-cam.
This is a fabulous pairing of a legend and a legend to be. Natalia has grown from pop roots to be a wonderful steward and proponent of traditional Mexican styles and songs along with her own works!
Omg, absolutely aaages since I heard the name Natalia Lafourcade. I actually had forgotten two of my favorite songs, and I was like.. I know that name!! They're from her first album, listen to it if you have time - Elefantes and Un Pato. They're adorable

This particular song is from a “tribute” album of Juan Gabriel dueting with several modern artists.
But her songs are worth listening separately. I am a big fan of her work.

I think “hasta la raíz “ would be a better song for analyzing. But “Soledad y el mar” (the one you mention) is one of my favorites :)

Juan Gabriel was not only a gifted composer, singer, and showman, but he was a true artist in that he knew to recognize that the best contribution he could give to a particular work would be to hang back and allow the other artists to shine. He collaborated with so many Latin artists and helped to bring them into the spotlight. His absence in the Latin music community is felt.
Juan Gabriel’s last two albums are an absolute gift to his fans and the younger generation. I’m a huge fan of his, and after his passing, those two albums took on a much greater meaning

I recommend Juan Gabriel’s version of CCR’s Have you ever seen the rain (gracias al sol). His version is a happier one. Several Latin American singers payed a tribute to CCR. The name of the album is Quiro Creedense. Thank you Beth.

You are my favorite vocal coach and appreciate your commentary. There's no doubt the legend Juan Gabriel is, but Natalia is becoming one. She is a genius and the way she chooses her tones and harmonies, she will be known as one of the music legends of her generation.
Finally got to see Natalie perform live and wow what an experience. There is a reason why she is a Grammy and Latin Grammy award winner. She is an artist through and through. And of course that man is a legend.

This song is absolutely sublimely fantastic - and she she makes it, she really makes it! No, in real life, they didn't love each other at all (and he's sadly since died) but in this song the capture ""love"" sung between 2 people - absolutely superb! If you have time, listen to Hasta Que Te Conocí, a brilliant example, of how Juan Gabriel draws on real life experience and as an actor, able to communicate the pain of abandonment, through song. Imagine writing a song to the person, who caused him, so much pain.

From the Duetos my favorite. It added something very special to the original version, which lasted about 7 mins. This one with less time does a lot more. Great song.
