She was struggling with depression and this song helped her at that time of her life. There are many concert videos of her when she sings this song and begins to cry, it is absolutely amazing how even crying she can sing it without any problem. You should listen to other songs of her!

If you knew the back story to this song. You'd know that isnt vocal technique shes controlling. Thats raw emotion being drained from her everytime she sings this song. I appreciated your comment on the difference between singing in Spanish and English (or other languages, for that matter). I've seen other reaction videos about this performance and no one else mentioned it. I don't sing but I studied languages and even just speaking X language makes you change your register, and sound in a very specific way (that you also instinctively change when speaking another language). I can only imagine how this affects your singing, so I'm glad that you acknowledge the difference language and accent can make.

I think Mon Laferte sounds much better live than on her albums. She's so authentic and love how she mix our latin roots in her songs. When you listen her singing live you can feel her energy, her passion, love and pain. Going to one of her shows it's an amazing experience. And PLEASE, as I read a lot of comments above, you should listen and watch Tormento, specially her performance at Viña del Mar. You'd literally cry your eyes out with that performance.

Mon wrote that song as a way to leave behind the deception on the part of his ex-partner (they had been in a relationship for about 7 years). This infidelity brought Mon to the brink of suicide, but she found the strength to move forward and composed the lyrics to vent, which is why she is so moved that she begins to cry.

I spontaneously started counter-singing "All of me" over this. I had a look at the lyrics and it would also match, two people sort of talking past one another about their love in different languages.

@@iangillham9647 Yeah..didn't it...and then I used my a combo of my very bad Spanish and google combo and realized that the lyrics meshed perfectly with modern society with man and women speaking different languages when it comes to love!

You're awesome Beth, I really love how you appreciate music from wherever country it comes, there are a lot of latin artists who deliver precious and emotional performances, would be excellent if you could listen to singers as Juanes, Kany García, Carlos Rivera and Natalia Lafurcade, just to mention a few.
I see the comments, but no one commented the fact that she wrote and sang this song because she was in a deep depression and was spiraling in alcoholism because of her breakup with a long term partner. She was balling through out that performance and she fucking nailed it.

I don’t understand why people is always trying to “own” a celebrity, if she weren’t famous nobody would care where is she from. Mon has a special talent, it doesn’t matter her nationality or ethnicity. She doesn’t belong to us Mexicans or Chileans. She was born in one country and made her life and career in a different one, sho what? Just let her be and enjoy her gift to us.
That passion she sings with is directly related to the story of the song, not only the lyrics, but also the meaning of it for her in her life. You have to know a little more about the story behind the song to understand why she sings it like that. 😊
Para los que no lo entiendan del todo, se los resumo; ella evaluó la técnica vocal de Mon y quedo gratamente impresionada, alabo su potencia y su control, y esa forma mágica en que alarga las frases, y la pasión y el sentimiento con que la canta, pero lo mas importante es que comparo esta canción con un Himno nacional! , por la intensidad y la solemnidad que tiene, eso es algo que se viene hablando hace meses, que "Tu falta de querer tiene "algo" que la elevado de una simple canción ,a un verdadero himno al amor y el desamor, por ahora latinoamericano, pero que esperemos que sea Mundial!
4:44 No es precisamente el Himno Nacional a lo que se refiere, menciona "the national feeling", se refiere a la pasión particular que sólo puedes encontrar en determinadas culturas ("...latin singers..."), cuestión de idiosincrasia, y que ciertos cantantes son capaces de transmitir al cantar.
