    I just like to read comments but I just have to comment today. I appreciate your consistency. I started the series and I was really scared that you would stop after sometime. I am Yoruba and I grew up in Igbo land. So it's a shame I can't speak my language but thank God for you sis!

    Would it make a difference if you are talking to or about your husband/dads relatives. For example you said grandma is “Iya Mamma Mi”, would this change if it’s not your mum’s mum but instead your dad’s?
    I am Caribbean and I’m trying to teach myself and my children basic Yoruba as their dad can only understand it and not speak it.

    • @DiamanteBox
      @DiamanteBox  5 років тому +1

      Yes! You're right, it changes with your dad, so it would be Iya baba mi, baba baba mi!

    ekale gbogbo yin. so u said we say baba/iya oko mi to the husband's sibling to say brother/sister in law, so is it the same when talking about your wife siblings?

    • @DiamanteBox
      @DiamanteBox  3 роки тому

      Ekale o. It’s not the same for the wife siblings. You might just call them Ana mi

    Can you tell us how to say cousins in part 2

    • @DiamanteBox
      @DiamanteBox  6 років тому +2

      Tomiwa Ade there is no direct word you could either call them egbon aburo or you would say 'omo egbon mama mi etc you would explain the relation Literally

    • @adeyemikolapo2158
      @adeyemikolapo2158 5 років тому

      Tomiwa Ade there's no direct translation of cousin... or you can say "omo aburo/egbon baba/mama mi" = "child of my Dad's/Mum's sibling (either older or younger)...
      omo= child
      aburo= younger
      egbon= elder
      baba/mama = father/mother
      mi = my

      Omo Aburo mi - My younger siblings child
      Omo Ebgon mi - My older siblings child
      Yoruba is not a gendered language so there is no distinction for nephew and niece. You would just specify if it's Obirin or Okunrin
