What about the chess box disappearing in the final shot? Geri knocked it over when he flipped the board, but it doesn't appear when the camera pans out at the end.
I always loved this animation as a kid, even though it was totally ridiculous! If I remember right, it came at the beginning of A Bug's Life and as much as I loved that movie when I was little, I was obsessed with Chess back then, so it made the animation more memorable.
You forgot,the part where past Geri turned the chess board over and knocked the chess box and it fell,and in the last scene we can see that there's no chess box
I watched the short recently, and quickly caught that black took two turns. You can see a Bishop is threatening the King, meaning White must move their King to get out of check. But Black moves their Queen anyways (even ignoring the fact he feigns a heart attack because he can't get out of check). Didn't realize just how wrong the short was, though with several illegal moves. And thinking about it now, if the white King can't move anywhere, which the short implies, then the game is over. On a side note, I'd like to see the full scene of Geri tricking himself by pretending to have a heart attack. Moving back and forth between the chairs as he reacts to and feigns the heart attack.

While this could be a genuine mistake, it could also be the younger Geri playing mind games, a thing which he seems to have a thing for with how aggressively he slams his pieces down (really, that's seriously not needed). Assuming he is playing mind games; he's warning the older Geri about ...Qf2 checkmate (the 3 dots is chess notation for it being black's move) despite Kf1 being white's only legal move. Edit: Looking over the board again, black could also play ... Rh1 checkmate when white plays Kf1.
At 1:52 either black side Geri was trying to trick white Geri into thinking it was already checkmate or he was simply warning him that even if he moves there it would be checkmate on the next move. On the other hand it might just be an error/oversight made by Pixar

every pixar shorts was a pre work for the upcoming work so that they can simulate the software used in that movie.. So they dont take much care in the details as in the movie. they just wanna see how they can work with the skin textures,hair, clothes, expression, non playing characters, surroundings and etc so that there would be minimalistic flaws in the movies.
One move that disgusts me is that white after the move Bxa3 played b3. And the pawn on c3 is moved. Also the position on 1:51 is stalemate after Kf1, Qg3. Kf1, Qe2 is mate.

Also when he spins the board around you can see that both of black's bishops are on dark-colored squares, clearly an impossible game state.
And then the light squared bishop switches back to its original light square when white side Geri says ‘ah ha’

For sin 20, if younger Geri moved either the bishop to c4 or the queen to e2, it would've been checkmate.
