You neglected to mention the superb 1911 trigger. The major reason. Use of us love the the 1911. Also, the 1911 was intended for Calvary troops, which is the reason for the Grip Safety. My only 9mm 1911 is going away. I prefer my 1911s the way JMB intended, .45acp.
I just recently got my first 1911 and got it customized with some art engraving and new paint job. It can be hard to find a good affordable 1911 and I think it’s best to get a classic GI style I got mine from Springfield Armory for $700 and do your own custom work on there to make it uniquely your own. Yes. Stovepipes are common in the beginning, depending on the brand. I got a lot of them in my first few hundred rounds with my current one; I'm now more than 2000 in. My dad and I just shot 700 rounds in a range day at steel targets a few days ago and neither of us had a single issue.

Have you had any experience with the subcompact S&W,1911,in .45 caliber? I would really like to get 3.5 to 3" barrelled 1911 in .45,but have not found one I would bet my life with? The three Kimbers ,and the Colt officers were not reliable, the only totally reliable,.45 1911,has been my Wilson Combat, ultralight commander, but they dont make one in .45,that small.

I have a Bersa Thunder .40 S&W, DA/SA, 1911 style, compact, 7" total length, safety/decocker, 13 round I think. Probably made in the 90s. It's all metal and a little bit heavy in my small hands, leading to barrel drop. Is there any reason why decockers seem relatively uncommon? Is it safe to use decockers with a round in the chamber prior to reholstering?
My two cents... 1911 is for .45 ACP. (Or .38 Super Auto if you must) Browning Hi-Power is for 9mm. 😋 I have 5 1911s. All .45s I LOVE them, I do not always carry one, but when I do, I feel very well armed. I switch out between a Kimber Ultra Carry, a S&W Model 642 or a S&W .380 Bodyguard...all depending on my wardrobe for that day. When the weather allows, I will take one of my full size or Commander models, or a Browning Hi-Power for a walk, but I live in a warm climate and it is not always practical to wear an adequate cover garment for the bigger guns. I do not like IWB carry, so I am usually packing the Kimber Ultra Carry when I carry a 1911.
