these are some inhuman guitar playng skills and u can tell he is playing it with passion, i fuckin love that. Insane fucking guitarist. Playing the songs how he plays them is as hard as playing how jimi played his music while doing vocals, truly insane.
That crowd doesn't realize what they are witnessing... there haven't been many (any) other bands that could top this. Here we are in 2024, 30 years after I bought Anticapital on LP... World seriously going to shit. The 90's were the best period ever. Not (too) many worries, excellent music, no social media BS, and bands like Assück.
I think Steve Heritage might be one of the best guitarists in heavy music period, playing this crazy shit at breakneck speed and doing vocals over it at the same time just looks so fucking hard.
misumi75 yeah the 90's in my opinion were the best time in HC scene. I never knew what to consider some bands from this erra , lots of death metal and metal core was around , how about the croud , its like there made out of concrete. Never c this in NY , Bulldoze , VOD. 25 ta life , better MadBall , scratch the surface SOIA , the list goes on forever . I'm from NYC lower east side , and the scene here is nothing like it was 25 yrs ago , cbgb , abc no Rio , all the good venues are gone. I live right next to Rivington music studios were all the band's used to practice and if heard maybe 3 hardcore bands practice in the past 2 years , lots of punk.
The 90s were the best era of hardcore......lots of new sounds and ideas.......the downside was hour long political essays between songs where the band would shove their pet politics, weather it be veganism, communism, anarchy, militant sXe, ect, down our collective throats.
I miss it. I remember we could all set up entire TOURS by using dialers that could trick payphones into thinking money was dropped into em hahaha. We all sets of lists of phone numbers to call certain people in every city where they would scurry to find show spaces even if they didnt know ya get. It's back when people would TRAVEL hours and hours for one dang show or follow bands up and down coasts haha.
I remember this tour. Wearing the shirt right now in 2019. I was 15-16 when I saw them, not at this particular show. I remember that drummer making me pay royally for standing behind him and stickwhipping the shit out of me a few times. What an incredible era. This looks like a no moshing enforced place, this is when skinny powerviolence kids were surprisingly tough and violent as shit, and nerdy anarchists actually got the fuck down in my town, they trained in combat and maneuvering and stomped the dogshit out of nazis, among other things. The summer after this were the glorious WTO riots
No, this is the Trumbleplex in Detroit. An old ass mansion converted into a collective space. There is a stage, they just chose not to play on it and because of that, I am sure nobody was "moshing" in order to not wreck the bands stuff. I've seen Dystopia there, Los Crudos (before they broke up and reformed) Anti-Product, Disassociate and all those shows kids went wild. Dystopa, people were stage diving. That being said, this is also DETROIT. An EXTREMELY violent place that had a HUGE nazi issues all over the Detroit area and the surrounding cities and suburbs. Make NO mistake, these anarchist kids lived and grew up in an extremely violent atmosphere and tho they preached peace and unity, they had no problems throwing down when threatened or attacking boneheads when they show up and tried to bully shows or pulled their marches. Vinlander Social Club which I think at the time where just Outlaw Hammer Skins from Ohio, began spreading into Michigan. Where this collective was was in the middle of block after block after block of burnt down buildings and just a total wasteland. Trust me, they ran workshops on self defense, gun safety and training (if that was your thing) etc etc.
Crazy. Was at this show. Actually video taped Reversal of Man but my battery died before Assuck. Saw the lineup the previous night in Flint. Incredible shows. Thanks for posting.
growlgrowlpigsqueal I must have heard it a hundred times but it still leaves me in utter amazement every time. That type of riff would fit perfectly in any Cryptopsy song, it says something about there innovations in grindcore and as songwriters.
That same year when I was 10, I was discovering skateboarding and Green Day's "Dookie," while these dudes were playing this beautiful Grindcore. I wish I was aware of this, but I was too young.
The crowd is boring but the music is awesome! Hardly anyone ever showed up. I was one year old when they did this show. Too bad they broke up but we want a reunion now from these grindcore legends.
So yeah this drummer is BAD ASS. What other bands compare in terms of drumming? Though part of my appeal is seeing him play live and seeing how he does it, so not just the sound(which is also badass of course)
I think if you just dive headfirst into the world of grind core and powerviolence you’ll find a lot of crazy god drummers. Wormrot is one that comes to mind right off the bat
I was in Kalamazoo during this crazy fascist clash that occured back then, the one the guy made the announcement about after the 1st song. I moved to Kalamazoo after my band played our final show (Puritan) in 97.
23:01 holy shit even though I knew the song was coming that still fucking blew me away and put shivers down my spine, just so fucking tight and brutal, I hate bands that are better live than on record!!!
I think that might be the reason, this shit is insane, just so ridiculously fast. The guitar tone is really scooped and gained out so that makes it even harder to distinguish what's going on. I wish there were tabs aswell, this music is just so fucking awesome.
The bass is pretty much pointless either way, it gets completely burried by guitar both on their records and especially live, the bass player might aswell be miming lmao.
+Luke Rogers Not only that, but nothing really needs to be talked about. Assuck is obviously one of the best grind bands in existence, and Misery Index is probably not only objectively the best grind album, but right up there with Repulsion and Napalm Death as far as influence on the genre.
+Nathan Tipton I don't think you guys got my point. Yes Assuck are super beloved by grind fans, but in the overall metal community, not so much. I look at a band like Discordance Axis, which were peers of Assuck, but are super beloved now by the hip metal elite, and I wondered why this has happened? Then I assumed it was DA's beloved album covers. Everyone who knows grind knows Assuck rule though.
+Kelly Moon It doesn't feel like one is stricly more loved than the other. Discordance Axis was always more "tech" IMHO, where Assuck was more crust. And today, I think tech stuff is more popular/mainstream than crust stuff, so I suppose it seems like they're "liked" more.

One of the most brutal drummer of all time! Complete monster
This is actually the best shit ever. That drummer is working overtime. And the crowd is precious, before they knew how shit the world would get.
Reversal of Man bassist. That tour was great.
Dropping knowledge
Arrrgh was trying to remember that bands name! Also amazing live. Drummer in the center between the other four members playing.
The 90's was a good time for hardcore music

Steve Heritage my favorite grindcore guitarist ever.
the drummer is fucking good! don't miss any note
Saw them in the mid 90’s, Milwaukee Metal Fest I think. The singer was throwing steel folding chairs into the crowd. Crazy.
17:47 makes me smile
Yeah. So on point. I think you can even see him give a little knod where he's amused by it.
Wow that was so tight, I played it over and over. Steve did give a little smirk, I’d be impressed too, damn straight.
Saw them in Belgium about 6 months after this show. Totally tight & pummeling (y)
Absolutely brilliant stuff.
saw this tour, thx for posting!!

that whole crowd must be dead by now cause they look pretty much there in this video and that 25 years ago

Two facts about this video:
This was shot at the Trumbull and it's amazing.

Detroit is notoriously boring for shows.
I don't think the crowd actually understands how to process such an abrasive, sandblasting sound...their minds are completely blown
