I have a 2013 JK, bought new. From day one, the heat doesn't blend. I have to turn the temp knob all the way hot and then back it off to get it to blend. Of course it didn't throw a "code" so the dealship said is was a non-issue. Jerks. That was back in 2013. More recently, I've noticed a similar problem to yours in the different modes not changing unless I go to defrost and then turn the knob back. That happens intermittently. So, just know this- it came from the FACTORY like this. (Is anyone surprised?) Thank you for your video. It has helped me confirm that this is indeed an issue with 2013 JKs. I'm not at 100K miles yet. Maybe I'll bug the dealership again.
I just ordered the part and I have the same issue as you and I have to the the exact same thing you do to get the feet going. I hope replacing the module will fix this.
Technically the use of the word "Blend"door is incorrect. The Blend door is used in your system to mix or "Blend" the hot and cold air to achieve the desired temperature. The function you're having trouble with is the function or directional actuator.
Based on what I’m reading I need to replace the control head unit. I was wondering if I Could switch it with a automatic control head and the sensor? Anyone know what it would take to upgrade? The parts price don’t seem much different.
Everyone keeps saying thanks for the solution. I have yet to see a solution explained . I have the same issue BUT I have to turn the selector Nov to vent or I won’t get any air out of vents.. I normally leave it on floor/vent combo
The blend air door actuator connects a rod down to the lower door (just inboard of the glovebox) to regulate air flowing over the heater core. When it fails you can no longer get hot air. It sounds like you have an issue with the controller which regulates where the air will flow.
Jeff, am dealing with the exact same thing on my '13 Wrangler Sport 2 door with the blend door issue .....and the freedom top halves as well......sure wish the factory would acknowledge these two things as a common problem and replace/fix for free. Was wondering by what they called the "controller" that you said in your original post. Please let me know.Thanks.
The blend air doors are electric. There is an electronic component what controls them. I don't know the part number but its the controller for the system...
I have a 2014 Wrangler with the exact problem. I have to go to defrost first then it works fine until I shut the jeep off and restart it. Once I restart it the problem returns. Do you know what part the dealer replaced? This way I'm not throwing parts at it and hoping for the best. Thanks. Any help would be much appreciated.
I think I'm having the same issue, in a 2013 Wrangler also, however I'm also having a heating issue now that its getting cooler. Basically the heat doesn't work consistently, it goes in and out. I'm curious if you've ever had that problem and also if the controller swap is still working for you. Thanks.
I had the same problem in a 14. That’s fixed but then it got stuck on cold. I got it working for a day and then ended up replacing the hot cold door actuator. Now it’s fucking stuck on hot. I’m so pissed off. The Jeep only has 35000 on it,
Jeff Tjernagel the actuators, there is one on passenger side behind the glove box and one on driver side behind the cover, above the pedals. I changed those 2 and they work fine. But i still have this problem.
@@arsent8326 you must be talking about the electric actuators that control the blend air doors. there is a control box that controls it all. I'll have to check where it's located.
Picked up a copy of the service report today. The dealership replaced the 55111168AI A/C and Heater Control Head (dash control panel). This is the panel with the controls on it. Looks like it's just over 100 bucks unless you can find one at a junk yard. Before this they replaced the blend air door motors too which didn't fix it. Changing the control head did... good luck!

At first the dealer changed out the motor which didn't fix it. Later they changed out the controller and that seemed to fix it. It was a pain to get them to do anything. All they wanted to do was scan for faults, which there were none. 5 trips later they finally did something.
I’m having this exact problem with my 13 JKU. Thanks for the solution!

My 2013 has the same problem it’s always been like that.. I’ve always just turned it straight to defrost and then the setting I want it

My 2013 jk heater quit and wondered if the controller fixed yours?
My Jeep is at the dealership today. They say its likely the flaps which control the direction of the air. I'm not sure, but waiting to hear back.
They finally fixed it. 1st they replaced the motor, no change. Then the controller and it went away.
No I always had heat. The doors just wouldn't go to the right position when selected.
Taber did you ever find a fix? My '13 JK 2dr is doing the same thing yours is too.
I have the same problem on my 2013 JK. Is the "controller" they replaced the Door Blend Actuator?
They first changed my blend door actuator... didn't fix it and later changed the controller which did fix it...
@@tjernagel hey, do you have a part number for the controller?
Larry I don’t have the part number they changed and traded my 2013 JK in for a 2018 JK so I no longer have access to the mx documents.
@@tjernagel which side did you change that fixed it? driver or passenger
@@arsent8326 The controller "controls" both sides together. There is no driver and passenger side.
Putting the white actuator arm on new motor how do you know the proper position goes on gear?
CALEB LOPES Don’t have a clue. I’ve never had to disassemble it. Good luck!

What "controllers" are you changing? The controller is the electronic control box that controls the blend air doors and there is only one.

That’s a mode door issue, not blend door. Blend is heat and cool, modes are vent defrost etc
Can you help me.... Where is the Mode Door. I am having the same issue. Replaced the blend door (on drivers side). Still having issues.

cool tx
Jeff Tjernagel it is expensive ?
It was free for me... I have a 7 year, 100,000 mile warranty and I'm holding them to every mile and year... :-)
Jeff Tjernagel when you say controller are you talking about the blend door actuator?
No problems with my tj :)
