Tony Gwynn, Johnny Bench and Mike Piazza have been the baseball players I’ve always known the name of. I met Piazza when he was playing for the Padres back in 06, mind you I was 5 but he was the first pro player I ever interacted with and I got a hat out of it. I never got to watch him play but from what I’ve seen from highlights he was a unit. The home run that healed a city, his absolute amazing skill he had as a catcher, and how nice of a guy he is outside of the field is just a few of the crazy things he did during his career. He deserves it.

The greatest hitting catcher of all time.
Also when he made the hall of fame he was inducted along side Ken Griffey Jr. so it was a first round pick and a last round pick together onstage.

No way, Ivan Rodriguez could hit every bit as good if not better and he was a stellar fielder and had a rifle for an arm. He's the true catcher of the 90s.

@@JohnSmith-zw8vp Wrong. Pudge's power was mid. The better defensive one for sure but that's it. Mike had a higher batting average, more RBI's, and way more home runs despite playing 5 less seasons. Mike never should have been behind the plate to begin with. He was a first basemen. But unfortunately catcher was the only way he was going to make the majors.

It’s so weird, but I learnt this from mlb the show playing as him in franchise, I saw 62nd round draft pick and searched it up.

One of my favorite players and idols growing up as a young Mets fan. I’m so glad we have Francisco Alvarez now it feels like he can be a similar caliber of player for a new generation of fans today. So happy piazza rocks a Mets cap in cooperstown.

Mike Piazza was an above average catcher in receiving, framing, pitch blocking, blocking the plate, popups and calling a game. His only weak spot was his arm in the latter part of his career.

100% agree...he really worked his craft...when the Mets asked him to move to 1st base he declined...He said "I'm a catcher"...although I do have a card with him at 1st base...loved his game, loved his swing and loved his story...

2:53 😂😂😂 Those “highlights” of Tommy Lasorda are all equally iconic! What he doesn’t always get credit for is what a great leader and manager he was.

Mike Piazza ranks number 1from an offensive stand point. He holds the record for most home runs hit by a catcher in MLB history. But if your judging by defense then Johnny Beach is number .

Strange to me that the attitude of his teammates was initially that of resentment due to his connections. The idea of being a pro player in the first place is that you want to be good enough at your job that teams want you more than everyone else that plays your position. So I can’t imagine it was anyone being incredibly upset about a player getting replaced. That’s just baseball. If it was really just because it was one of those “he owed his dad a favor” and he turned out to be that good, I’d be grateful that my system had connections with unknown but spectacular talent

  • @chrislewis5069
    @chrislewis5069 5 місяців тому

It's not the scouting that was bad. Someone who doesn't know stats can see talent if they understand what they are looking at but if they just know stats and metrics and don't know what they are looking at they are useless. Trust me, he probably had one of the biggest improvement from high school to the minor leagues in the history of baseball

    Roids.
He admitted to Andro just like most ppl admit to having a couple of drinks when they had many or saying their weight is blank and not saying the correct and much larger number.
    But it’s ok.
    He’s white.
And Bonds is hated by the media.
Piazza had plenty of roid rage incidents and had
    Horrible back acne.
It’s ok it wasn’t illegal or even against MLB rules.
    But there’s no doubt.
    He juiced.
