Technical Itch (UK) & MC Jakes @ Carbon Lounge in Detroit 2002

- Ronin Selecta brought legendary Drum N Bass producer/DJ Technical Itch and his MC Jakes from the UK to Detroit for an unforgettable night at Carbon Lounge in March 2002. Tech Itch threw down an all-vinyl set for a packed crowd that moshed, crowd surfed and danced until the very end. Detroit's rave scene ended about a year before this show, but it certainly felt like some of that underground vibe and energy was back in the air that night. Footage shot by Mike P and Clayton Perry.
There are cameos in this video by Ronin Selecta, Amy Hubbarth, John Stowe, La Resistance, Dan Wagner, Ellsworth, MD, Kruise Kontrol, Danny, Jabour, Hiro, MC Play, Robyn, Bassghost, Gabe, Sarah S, Rob Hix, and possibly a young Seth Troxler.
So many demographics of people came together in early 2000's UK through D&B. The goths loved it, the powerhouse guys loved it, the reggae ska guys loved it. We we're all rubbing shoulders in the same venues and realising the fact were not all so different.
was the eccies mate
Tech Itch always made other artists’ tracks sound so much nastier! Dude is a genius!
Thats why I love Drum'n Bass . That energy in this music is f****** crazy
Drum and bass used to be so good back when this was shot. It sucks so bad for the most part now 😢
MC Jakes is a fucking sick MC. So good at crowd hyping! He used to be a great host for Therapy Sessions in Bristol our monthly night
Tech Itch & Jakes used to be a sick duo! Rinsing proper
А как же Limewax?
Lumewax is shit
I was there! I remember a rumor that night that Tech Itch had lost all of his records traveling to Detroit, except some dubplates which was were the basis for his set that night! Great marketing lol
Did they get stolen or something?
One of the all time greats!
Yo this went off !!!! I saw Dieselboy, Tech Itch, Gein and SPKTRM at a movement after party at C Pop Art Gallery one year. So grimey man! I had a Freddy Kruger Claw on for that one lol. I also saw Ewun and Like was at the works one year. Hive and Maztek at another venue another year. So many dope parties. Saw Hype, Goldie and Photek all different years at movement. Evol Intent
and many others in Detroit. Shout outs to Ronin and Teddy. Had them come to Dayton once. Good times. Thank you Detroit for exposing me to so much. So many good stories to tell. We highjacked the 25th floor of the riverfront hotel in 2010 during the recession and had a renegade after party djed by yours truly in a banquet hall. People from all over the world were there like four different languages were in effect. I love Detroit and always stick up for it in the faces of the ignorant. Ain't no party like a Detroit party!!!!
Evol intent is dope live
I came to show. Drove Gein into town. Think this was around Techno week. Was a blast n pretty sure we remember the glove. 😁
We did the Ewun and Limewax show at The Works.. that one was TONS of fun! Thx for the memories 🥰

hell yeah! Brutal set there!! Camera got banged up at the end... lol Detroit is rough! Looked fun as hell though!
Jakes was so good. He let the music breathe, no cheesy lyrics, intelligent dark lyrics and no huge rudebwoy ego of the single braincell MCs eg Shabba D.
Shabba is an immense mc..

TI love to RED LINE the F out of the system. All his tracks are bass heavy.. I used to do sound for events. and I have a hell of a time handle his set. He is a Genius when it comes to producing, but has a personality of a Door Knob. I went thru needles with his catalog sets. OH MC dont do well with his sets. This Club has cheapo gear, Peavey Amps? Low Grade Crown AMPs all have High distortion specs. You need a decent sound system to make his tunes pop.
They did what they could with what they had.
44 50 ???
Dylan and Ink - California Curse (Technical Itch Remix)
dat freak house party... 😆
but i like this music, and especially in that shit quality 👹
mb a little hard, mb a little dark, but its true classic dnb imo.
Yes. That "shit quality" gives that authentic feel :P
Whats with the moshing lol u couldn't do that in London..defo b a fight 100%
It took off at raves during the whole bro-step thing here in the U.S. (around 2013ish) but yes the first time some kid shoved me trying to start a mosh pit I was ready to fight. The guy next to me was like "don't, it's a new thing" never saw is at dnb shows growing up. In this video it just looks like some kids bumping around and dancing though.
2:22 Slipknot - eyeless
B4CKFLiP that part is what I think being used in the song "Eyeless" by that metal band Slipknot.
[Edit: Just checked it back. It's "Tattered & Torn" by Slipknot. I thought I heard it somewhere]
durt
I wish Jakes would stop talking over the music. It's like someone talking during a movie.
Nah, not at all
I love Technical Itch as a producer, but damn... he isn't much of a performer, is he?
The mixing is mediocre at best and he's standing there like he isn't quite sure why he's there in the first place.
And is it just Detroit, or do Americans not know how to dance to drum and bass?
Kind of agree, but check him with Limewax at Therapy Sessions in 2006. 4 years later and he does much better there!
ThelemicMagick oh he can mix. Just depends on the night. Check out his resistance mix. Favorite combo is watching tech Itch and bkey together.
Ya kkow bruh...i was thnkin the same thing #GreatProducer but #No # LIVE #InPerson#Dj #Mediocure No Disrespect
I've heard Tech Itch loads and have heard him do an amazing set before. Bear in mind there are technical problems with the decks on this set for some reason, they keep jumping. Must have been v frustrating having flown all the way out there. It says "all vinyl set!" so I guess that was unusual and those decks didn't get used much.
Also yes DnB culture is different in the USA, people don't drink or do drugs at the events as much and there is less dancing. They see it as a gig like a band playing kinda I think. They didn't have rave culture develop organically in the 90s like we did.
I love Tech Itch's sets but for me it's all about selection. Everyone used to say Tech Itch was better producer Dylan better at mixing.
