How To Bend Plastic Glasses Frames

- Here is how to bend plastic glasses frames. To reshape and bend plastic glasses frames, you need to get them warm. The easy way to do this is to soak them in a bowl of hot water. It doesn't have to be boiling hot. It should be cool enough that it doesn't burn your hands. After the glasses frames are warmed up, for 30 seconds or more in the hot water, slowly bend them to the shape you want. Keep putting the plastic glasses frames back in the hot water between bends so they stay hot. Keep on bending your glasses frames until you get them into the shape you want.

I did exactly what you said to do, and 60 seconds later my glasses fit perfectly. Great video. No B S, and straight to the point. Thanks!
You’re welcome.
Life saver mate, first pair of plastic prescriptions... and they have never fitted well. Saved me a trip into the city, cheers!
Glad I could help.
This worked perfectly on the first try. I had planned to use a hair dryer, figuring I needed a lot of heat. I never considered my hot tap water would be enough. Thank you!
+Daniel Roy you're welcome. I'm glad it worked.
You are the hero of the day!
I have a pair of expensive sunglasses I bought two years ago and never wore because they wear so loose they were uncomfortable. Honestly, this was to easy, and I am super grateful you took the time to show us!
Jessica Pavey Great! I'm glad it worked for you.
My glasses were too tight... thought I'd have to buy new frames. Now they fit comfortably. Brilliant! Thank you!
You’re welcome. I’m glad I could help.
Thanks man. Simple straight forward instructions. Fixed my wife's glasses in 5 minutes. Very helpful.
You’re welcome
Thank you Sir. Adjusted the curve on a new pair of Oakley Turbines. I did boil water in a kettle, poured into a bowl and cooled for 2 minutes. Bent slowly at bridge. Cooled in bowl of ice water. Worked flawlessly. No streaking. No Damage. You rock! C.
My glasses are thick and I was surprised at how HARD I had to bend them. Took me a few tries to get it right, but it worked. Great video
Thanks
Worked! You rock...adjusted my sunglasses...now they fit perfectly...Thank you!
You're welcome.

Thank you soooooo much!!! I have a vintage pair of Tom Ford sunglasses that were bent, but you've saved them with this video.
You’re welcome.
wow! you saved me! I ordered a ray ban clubmaster and ordered the 140mm instead of 145mm so they didn't fit well, so I made this trick and now they fit perfectly! you are the best.
+Randy Cuello Great! I am happy I could help.
Lol just tried this while I was at work! Perfect solution, thanks alot! Got another pair at home will try it on those as well :-)!!
jason simmons You're welcome.
this guy its a hero, im so happy he still making videos and knowing he is doing good :)
Thanks
I started googling before taking the heatgun to mine. I never thought the thermoplastic became malleable at such a low temp. Thanks for keeping me from melting a $300 set of YSL frames.
You're welcome. I've ruined things with a heat gun before. I'm glad you got your glasses adjusted.
I had to do the opposite. My glasses kept falling and i kept getting tension headaches (never get them). Totally worked. Kept at it until they didn't fall off my face. Took 1 hr because i was being extra careful since they are my only Rx glasses. I have one suggestion. Place glasses in the freezer/fridge for 2 min after molding them in hot water. This will make plastic hard so the now malleable frame wont re-configure as plastic cools
+Ricardo Rodriguez i'm glad it worked for you. Thanks for the tip on putting it in the refrigerator. I bet that works well.
Would pouring cold water after you mold it work the same
I’d be worried that the expansion of the plastic from the heat to then being hit with really cold water causing instant contraction of the plastic might be too much stress on the arm and cause it to snap
Thank you very much!!
This worked really well for my back up eyeglasses (TR90 material). They were backups because I never like how the arms felt too short. After adjusting them with this method, now I can wear them no issues.
The pair of eyeglasses I just received in the mail today have the same problem (arms bend too soon) but it has a rubberized coating on the plastic. With some complaining their glasses are turning white, I think I will try the hair dryer method instead. If I can get them adjusted too, it'll be like having two new pairs of eyeglasses.
+vloggerazzi You're welcome. I'm not sure if rubber turns white or not when you heat it. I've only ever tried this on plastic frames.
I did this to my regular glasses. I've had them for about four years now, but I neglected them for personal reasons up until late last year. I found that they were incredibly tight and left deep marks by the root of my nose.
After trying this method, but with slightly hotter water and for about three times as long, I found that bending them became rather easy. Definitely recommended!
Thanks
Dude you just saved me $40, much love man.
+Ricardo Barajas Great!
Ive been doing this for years. Great video.
Ken Bolden Thanks.
Worked brilliantly.
Used a kettle, poured it into cooled glass so it wouldn't be at boiling point.
I bought some custom sunglasses and they barely touched my head lol...
They're nice and snug now. Thanks!
You’re welcome
Thank you! It worked,. I bought a cheap pair of prescription glasses online and I love them but they were too small on the arm length. I've stretched them out just a little bit, it took a while as I was being extra careful, and now they fit perfectly.
You’re welcome
Perfect. Tried the hairdryer method first with no effect at all. But this worked perfectly! Thanks!
You’re welcome
This is really helpful! I ordered some sunglasses but I had no idea about the shape and so they don't fit my fat head. Now I can bend them into shape where I don't get instantaneous migraines because of them! Thanks!
Michelle Ozawa You're welcome. I'm glad I could help.
Thanks for the tutorial man!
Got my first pair of plastic glasses today and the arms came a little too bent. Worked a charm
Glad I could help!
My glasses were way tii big for my head, and this helped me a ton!
cheers!
+michaelangela I'm glad I could help.
thanks a bunch! I had good success with a tea kettle. I poured it before it was a full rolling boil, and let it cool for a minute before dunking. I had to make a massive bend in mine to get them to fit.
You’re welcome
i actually bought a used pair of ray ban prescription glasses on ebay which are very bent which sat on my face crooked followed the steps wow amazing well done
Thanks.. slept on my glasses.. didn't want to get new ones. It works!!
You’re welcome.
Hell yea thanks man! Thought I wasted 60 bucks on a pair of glasses that didn't fit that I couldn't return but thanx to you that's not the case!
You’re welcome
thanks sooo much dude! i actually got my new glasses and my dad told me he wasn't gonna bye me another
my glasses bent and i didn't know what to do! but then i saw this vid and.... thanks a lot!
You're welcome. I'm glad I could help.
Thank you so much! I bought eyeglasses that started hurting my ears and giving me severe migraines. Now I know what to do! Great video!
Absolute legend for posting this! Thank you
You’re welcome
Great help!! Most UA-cams are to adjust loose frames... us big head people need the opposite!
I know. I wish glasses came with straight frames, and you had to bend them to fit your ears. That would make a lot more sense.
Yo! I just bought two pair of glasses from an eBay dealer and they came all bent and out of wack. Knee knee-jerk reaction was to just send them back - annoyed that it was a scam but I decided to do some research and your video was exactly what I needed. Now I have $25.00 Kenneth Cole frames that replace my old glasses- down from $350.00. Not bad! Thanks for the great work.
You’re welcome
Great explanation, gonna try this right now.
Thanks pal, I used a hair dryer like someone suggested in the comments and it worked like a charm
You’re welcome.
Thank you :) Saved me a lot of money. har!
Love this … saved my whole day
wow was not expecting this to work as well as it did, thanks!
+buddyblakester You're welcome.
Thankyou , easy to follow … great job 👏
You’re welcome
Somebody plz give him an Award... it worked... thanku...😊😊
Tysm!! I was so scared if they won't come back to their original shape.. owe u!
You’re welcome
Worked great! I should have watched your video before i tightened glasses.
Glad it helped!
Oh thanks that's great! Cuz I just received prescription glasses and the arms are too wide, it falls off my face when I eat
That was so helpful 👍
Glad I could help!
Just now received Ray Ban Liteforce RB4213 and unfortunately they are a
bit wide to my face. They are made from high end durable and flexible
plastic. I have tried heating them and bending, but even following all
the procedures with hot water or hair drier, they will return to the
previous shape. Is there any way I could bend the bridge to make them
narrower or bend legs? Thank you.
Thanks a lot man you helped fix my glasses.
You're welcome.
This actually worked. Thanks
+Kory Hope You're welcome.
Thank you mate!
UA-cam really has it all. Bought some ali express glasses that bowed out in the arms. I straightened those are also curved the main frame to better fit my head. Worked like a charm but matte black fininsh did discolour a but due to hot water
Holy crap it worked! thank you!
You're welcome.
I tried running hot water from the tap over the temples, which did not work. I will try your bowl soak method next. Thanks a lot very helpful!!
You're welcome.
thanks for this tutorial you are still very useful
Glad it was helpful!
You are a life saver
Great advice.. thanks!
You’re welcome.

Thank you so much. I tried and it worked perfectly. But I left it 60 seconds in the water.
You’re welcome

You're welcome!

+ProjectDystopia You're welcome.
Thank you so much for the method. It made my day. I used to think that I had had to throw my new bought glasses into trash :(((((((((
You're welcome. I buy prescription glasses on the internet, and they never fit quite right, so I figured out how to safely bend glasses frames myself.
Thanks for the tips. I like your style HHH.
You're welcome. Thanks for watching.
Hair dryer is quicker and in fact more in keeping with actual fitting practice but if it works, it works!
Lmao I accidentally sat on my glasses Ur a lifesaver
Worked well for me
THANK YOU SIR!!!
You’re welcome
you sir are a legend
Thanks
Thanks for the video brother man.
Oh Yeah!!!
+CragieSea You're welcome.
totally works, fixed my ray bans, thanks!
You’re welcome
Very awesome tip
Thanks!
I've been a Licensed Optician for over 40 years now and though this would work if people want to adjust their own plastic frames, I think it would be easier if you use some sort of hot air like a hair dryer.
I'm sure a hair dryer would work well. I would be afraid that people might accidentally overheat it and melt the plastic with a hair dryer, whereas hot water wouldn't be hot enough to melt the plastic, but would get it warm enough to bend.
It depends on what kind of plastic material. Some must be heated as high as 250 or it would just snap. Water boils at 212. I would say if they are in bad shape you've got nothing to lose, give it a try.
I did this and I melted the frames and ruined the lenses
@@peytonknight2680did "this"... Did what??? Lol
Thank u so much
You’re welcome
Thank you helped me a lot
You're welcome.
cool video, thanks man!
You’re welcome.
Thank you!!
You’re welcome
I fixed my Ray-Ban Wayfarer RB2140 this way. Staighten the temples so it would fit better on the back of my ears. Perfect way to do it. Just bend it tiny bits at a time, repeat it a couple of times. Don't rush it, you might break your sunglasses.
Also I just used a glass with hot water, you can just place the temple you want to bend in the glass. So you don't have to hold the sunglasses when it's warming up.
Thanks, John C. Reilly.
You’re welcome
damn it really worked thought am gonna get other one geez close one ahh i step it on
Thank you
You're welcome.
I have a pair of presciption glasses where one of the lenses hits my face. Would this work for twisting the nose part?
I think so. If it’s plastic, it should be bendable.
Thanks a lot !
You’re welcome
Thank you!!!!
You're welcome.
But what about where the frame connects to the small metal pieces on the lens
I tried this with my $12 sunglasses. I couldn't change their shape using the hottest water that comes out of my tap, so I tried boiling it. Wearing work gloves I dropped the glasses in a pan of boiling water for 60 seconds, took them out with tongs, and reshaped one temple. Repeated for the other temple. Good result. Thanks for the pointer to the hot-water technique.
You're welcome. I know that some plastic will melt or change color in boiling water, so starting out with warm water first is a good approach. If that doesn't work, then use progressively hotter water until it bends.
Thanks good to know!
You're welcome.
Thx man..you fixed my problem.
You're welcome.
You're welcome.
Well didn't really work out for me, but I have my old pair I can wear for now until I get them fixed.
Thanks anyways!
a hair dryer work's great also
Great video, had to use boiling water for mine however.
Thanks
Just used hot water on my wife's brand new Burberry frames to match her old frames, worked perfectly to adjust temple length.
the water from the tap doesn't get that hot so I boiled some and it work thanks :)
+SpicyConch Gaming You're wlcome.
Why about the legs of the glasses?
my warefarers broke but lenses still good. the arm totally broke off at the hinge, i bought a pair of sun glasses that look pretty similar although there is a small gap exposed since my lenses dont completely fill out the frame. would this work to make where the lenses go, smaller?
+Alex 007 it wouldn't shrink the frames, but it might allow you to bend them around a little bit.
Can you bend ANY type of plastic frame like this???
Thanks, great video btw!
I think so. Thanks!
Your awesome dude
works in new wayfarer!
Listen bro, I'm a diff breed. As in I was in a car accident that caused a brain injury, so I have double vision, but this video helped me get rid of that. Cause when my glasses on all the way, my vision is perfect. Just want to thank you for the singular vision
You’re welcome
