I think Katherine Addison's The Goblin Emperor is more of a generally cozy fantasy, but the two companions novels (The Witness for the Dead and The Grief of Stones) would qualify more as dark cozy fantasies, given their subject matter. I love all three of these books, so I'm always recommending them.
The ocean at the end of the Lane and deathless would count as dark fantasy for me. The bear and the Nightingale and Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell are definitely cozy but some parts do get really really dark so....
Literally why is no one mentioning the Silver in the Wood duology??? That is dark cottagecore at its best with creepy forest/nature shit and lovable characters too
There I go again, filling up my wishlist with all the books you reccomend! Side note: any chance of we having a new round of Tome Topple this April? (Sorry to ask, but I'm thinking of reading 1Q84 and I could use the extra motivation of a readathon to get me through it!)
I recently read One Dark Window and it gave me vibes similar to these… and there’s a spooky forest!
I love the way you described this very niche subgenre. T. Kingfisher definitely fits in here well!
I really need to read their books!

For anyone that loved Sorcery, she has since released a companion novella!
Coraline is a dark cozy fantasy to me, also The Ocean at the End of the Lane as well. Would like to read more dark cozy fantasies.

This is a great list.! I love how your cat friend is listening so attentively. Cute fur baby being cute!
Totally agree about Uprooted! With Every Heart A Doorway I'm always so amazing how much she can pack into those short books. Love this list!
Yay kitty in the lap!!!! Hi kitty. I kind of love the Hobbit/Nazgul comparison of types of cozy. Uhm I think Nettle and Bone would fit this list....
I love this genre. Nettle and Bone jumps out me.
Honorable mention for Language of Thorns
Oooh Raven Boys definitely fits. 🌿
YES, adore Sorcery of Thorns!
Great video. Thanks!
Nettle and Bone and Emily Wilde's Encyclopedia of Faeries both felt pretty cozy to me! A little dark, but also whimsical and comforting somehow.
The Greenhollow Duology by Emily Tesh, the first novella is al about cozy and creepy forest
Did I hear it wrong, or are you saying Nazgul fantasy? Well, your description made me think of Nettle & Bone, obviously. Such a fun book.
Nope that’s exactly what I’m saying lol Nazgûl cozy is how the tiktoker I referenced described it.
I just started sorcery of thorns today.
I really like Sorcery of Thorns and I've bought the novella epilogue esque book as well (mysteries of thorn manor).
Excellent set of recommendations! I'd love to see another video! :)
Hi Sam! 😊An excellent set of recommendations! I never knew dark fantasy could get cozy😉😉😉! Awaiting your next video😊.
Literally why is no one mentioning the Silver in the Wood duology??? That is dark cottagecore at its best with creepy forest/nature shit and lovable characters too
I legit have all but the last 2 books in this list. Sorcery of thorns i've read, I need to read the rest ugh lolol
Cozy to me means Anne Bishop books. I guess that's more urban fantasy, but it's cozy to me.
I instantly thought of Bone shard daughter by Andrea Stewart
Ooh I don’t find that one super cozy since it’s much more sweeping and epic in scope. I like it but not as a cozy vibe.
❤❤❤

Possibly! April is usually when we have a round so it all depends on hosts schedules.
