@@EE_Techit’s not the actor for James is Luke Roberts for the remake, Troy Baker only voiced James in the HD collection that came out I think 2011 or 2010
"I got a letter. The name on the envelope said 'Mary.' My wife's name. It's ridiculous..." The delivery of these lines in the intro by James' voice actor is amazing. The pure melancholy, exhaustion, and longing are captured beautifully.
Mary’s line at the beginning is so beautiful. The melancholy In her voice is somehow beautiful, coupled with the music it’s such a atmospherical and emotional feel
The remake version of the opening music nailed the narrative so masterfully. The first half gives you a feeling of stillness, somber yet there are determination and "hope" represented by the slowly rising note, yet, there is still a feeling of eeriness as if giving you a hint to what James feel about himself, his search of a "redemption" and the area that he is in; the scene shows James alone in dark creepy bathroom. The next half plays as he opened the door, embarking on his journey to Silent Hill, he second guesses himself by saying "Mary, could you really be in this town?", then the music plays; desolate, dark and otherworldly as the scene shows the town of Silent Hill; as if answering the obvious question itself. Something is there. It might be an abysmal nightmare rather than Mary. Then the acoustic guitar plays abruptly, totally disconnected from the notes and vibe before; snapping James out of reality with a feeling of nostalgia, comfort and hope, accompanied by Mary words to James that she is there, reassuring James to venture into the town ignoring the reality in front of him, Silent Hill luring him in like a predator, ensuring it's judgement. Brilliant.
Absolutely love the way you think and wrote this out. Put how I felt into words better than I could with all the hype, when my friend and I initially saw this. The devs knew exactly what they were doing with those music beats, punctuating his actions. It’s just tense silence and wracked nerves until he finally can face himself. Then they just tap you right back in. Shits dope.
Ok, Bloober Team is making me swallow my words. Excluding the adaptations they had to do to compensate for the photorealistic graphics and modern gameplay everything is there: the impeccable ambience, the line delivery sounding like the characters are in this hazy state of mind, the opressive fog, the even more oppressive soundtrack. If the rest of the game is like this opening they've knocked it out of the park.
Something that I have to mention is how terrifying enemies are now, even one single monster can scare and beat the shit out of you if you don't move thinking about what are you doing
@@poinblink6190 The difficulty on hard is perfect for it too. But I think even on standard it is a struggle against them. You cannot easily run away from them now I guess.
The Abstract Daddy boss fight in the original is trudging around a small room and shooting every few seconds. The remake version of it had me sweating and shaking. I've never felt such genuine terror in a video game. And because I love this game, for once it's not too much to handle and turn off. I wanted to press on no matter how horrified I was by all the loooong ominous builds to moments with Pyramid Head (he honestly even caused me physical terror the original). This remake was designed to pull a sheet over your eyes, and terrify you with your vague memory of how the scenes played out originally vs how they do now. 10x more terrifying. Oh, and even on my second playthrough I still feel dread rounding dark corners and hearing noises from every direction.
@@TVHead003 The music honestly, is what makes Silent Hill for me. Without the music, the visuals wouldn't have as much of an impact for me tbh. The video game medium can be so beautiful.
@@johngddr5288 and I struggled to believe that any horror game would have such good music. Silent Hill songs are close to beautifully ambient until they intentionally become tense and scary
I'm pleasantly shocked that this game is actually good. I'm only at the hospital in my playthrough but they really captured the uncanny and oppressive essence of the original without going over the top. All of the additional character details so far feel really organic and don't go too far or feel too obvious. I even like the gameplay updates, and the soundtrack/sound design is pretty faithful. Feels like a proper remake made by people who like the original or at least listened to what fans liked about the original. They aren't trying to "fix" the story or "fix" the dialogue, feels more like they are leaning into it instead. (Obviously I care about the tone more than the game mechanics for this, if you don't like that they revamped how the game handles, fair is fair, I personally like the updates)
The intro alone is a work of art. Especially with the music you feel the guilt, the shame, the anger, the loneliness.. and also the small bit of hope. This to me is some of the best kind of storytelling because you don't need to be told what James did to emphasize/relate his and the other characters' mental struggles. You feel it too..
I don't really like how they changed the miniscule detail of James not looking away and hiding his face with the palm of his hand when telling Angela he's looking for someone really special for him. It added something to the scene I cannot really explain
The teaser irked me because James looked overly tearful in it, making me skeptical of Bloober's intentions. But comparing the remake's finished intro to the original release made me feel a bit more curious about picking up the game, seeing how much more faithful it is
You should. I really hated this remake when it was announced, but after it came out I gave it a chance. SH2 was already like top 5 top 3 games for me... I think if I consider the remake and the original one Thing together, it's my number 1 of all time now, because of the remake.
There clearly was a massive change since the original trailer, but it’s literally like the sonic movie, it started bad but turned into the greatest thing One example is well, the face at the start The original had James’s face shadowed and hollowed out, almost skull-like, to show how empty he was In the original trailer, he just looked sad, like he was just gonna cry abt it like “Mary sent me a letter 😭😭” I’m so glad they not only changed it, but managed to make an intro to far surpass the original (imo) the fog sure does
Konami for some reason picked unpolished stuff for the trailers. Bloober had polished versions ready to go but Konami pulled their usual Konami nonsense.
Someone mentioned that in the first few seconds you hear a metallic sound when James is washing his hands and people (as well as I) think it’s his wedding ring
holy shit I hear it. I thought it was the sound of him turning off the water (knob) and I think you can still hear that at the same time that ring hits the wall and drops down.
I got a letter, the name on the envelope said ‘Mary’. My wife’s name. It’s ridiculous. Can’t possibly be true. That’s what I keep telling myself. Mary died of that damn disease three years ago. So then why am I looking for her? Our “special place”… What could she mean? This whole town was our special place. Could Mary really be here? Is she really alive? Waiting for me?
Bro I’m only two hours in and I played the original ps2 version and the hd collection on ps3, bloober absolutely cooked with this. The graphics, the atmosphere, the combat everything is just amazing and it’s worth buying and playing. It may not have the uncanny atmosphere that the original had but that’s more or less due to it being on PlayStation 2 and the old graphics would’ve made it a little more uncanny but it’s still perfect
Did her actress forget her lines and just improved them. Seems like in the graceyard scene she forgot and went silent for a sec stumbling over some lines.
