Mick, know that we are all wishing you and your wife a speedy recovery, hope that you had a pleasant Christmas holiday and have a great new year ahead. Don't worry about making videos until you have regained your strength and feel well again. We will be here in any case. 🙂
Well, that was a surprise. Looking closely at about 22:00 something seemed to come off of the board. Maybe that was the remains of the resistor. Thanks, Mick. That was quite a suspenseful bit of detective work. I enjoyed it very much. Have a good Sunday.
Thanks👍 yes I think that must have been a piece of the original resistor. I thought it looked a bit odd, but wasn't sure if there had been a resistor there or not (with it being a black board and black resistors).
@@BuyitFixitI work QC in manufacturing and this is why we have a strict "any dropped part is scrap" policy. 90% chance IMO that the resistor had poor connection but was there at one point. Someone dropped that board, and instead of scrapping it they continued the assembly because "we drop things all the time and it's fine" well this is why it sometimes isn't fine to do that.
Was hoping to see a video from you before Christmas so I could wish you and your family a Merry Christmas...so I came to this video to do it. Take Care, Bill
Cheers Bill, not sure if you caught the community post I put up about my wife being in hospital and me catching a bug while I was there. All is good now, so video should be out tomorrow 👍

@semiRockethr I do still have my tri-nocular which I was using (but via camera) couldn't really get away with it when looking down through the eye pieces.
Awesome fix, you seemed to be getting somewhat frustrated after awhile, but with patience and perseverance you prevailed. Great video, thank you for sharing! I see you have a busted up knuckle, have you been fighting with the sheep in the pasture. LOL Paul, USA!!!
Thanks Paul 👍Yes busted my knuckle a bit, I've been also rebuilding the hydraulic transmission on our RTV900 utility vehicle. It was in 100 bits all over the shed floor with the rear axle off. I've nearly got it all back together now.. I'll probably do a video on the rebuild as I had a few people asking about could I do some more mechanical repairs, and I don't think you can get more mechanical than that! 😂😂😂 I've also been replacing the rear tipping bed as it was all rotten, so got some steel plate and removed the old one, welded a new one in place. Replaced a drive shaft, wheel bearings, and sorted out the brakes too 👍 Hence having a pretty busy week, then trying to fix something for a video, and 4 other items I started recording all needed parts ordered!
@BuyitFixit Please keep up the great videos, I've learned so much from them. I have always told people I work with the greatest gift you can give some one is your knowledge, and you my friend are a Saint.
This was as always, an incredible "class", thank you Mick! Also for future reference and maybe helping others, some of these portable consoles have open source boards and perhaps easy to find the component values. (I'm looking forward to buy a R36S =] )

Well done, possibly a gate or base drive resistor. Probably an illusion, but the USBC port did look corroded. I've asked Santa to send you a sponge (22:35).
After reading this I had to go see if there was a video on what actually happens at the end.. and it was slightly disappointing.. "Congratulation This story is happy end" 😂😂
Nice fix. I think maybe that the previous owner managed to short that resistor by aggressive input of the usb C connector . My mates wife does it all the time with her Gorilla fingers and Bingo Wings arms .
😂😂😂Could be, but it looked more like the solder was heated up and oxidized where the resistor went so that's why I think too high a voltage or something was applied.
Looking back along the video you can see where the resistor was where the square ends indicate a component and if that is a critical gate switching feed then the whole device is just going to sit there doing nothing.
Thanks, I've not really come across that before, but a quick search suggests it's a ferrite BeaD which usually measure pretty much short circuit and are used to suppress or filter high frequency noise usually.
. . .Did the maker purposely fit unmarked resistors to that unit precisely to discourage anyone from repairing a fault like this? . . .I've just drawn out part of an ABB board with a lot of "0603" size resistors on it and all the resistors on the board I had had clearly visible, altho' tiny, numbers on them indicating their value!
I've came across a few boards like this now, where all of the resistors are just black little squares. I think it's pretty standard on phones. I thought it was because the resistors are too small to have values on them.
Never underestimate the value in a different perspective on the board. Especially with single fix point camera view. Inspect from all sides and angles. On a binocular it's a bit easier as it's more of a 3d view without tilting.

I found that rg35xx simply doesn't like any charger with fast charging, as soon as I plug in with Samsung simple non fast charging wall plug everyone always gets em charging AND must be usb A to usb C cable no usb c to usb c cables
This is a common mistake with devices that use a USB-C connection for charging. Either device could send power to the other, so you need a way to indicate that the device wants to receive 5V power. This is done by trying reach of the two CC pins to ground using a 5.1K ohm resistor. No resistor means no power gets sent. I have several devices (including an Anbernic RG350M) that I want to open up and see if I can retrofit these resistors, so that I can charge them with any USB-C charger.
Really common with these that people plug in high power fast chargers and kill them dead. I own three Anbernic devices and I'm a member of the owners forum over on facebook, it's a topic that's comes up an awful lot.
Interesting👍I had a feeling that it could have been the case with this one. I had similar with a R36S console a while back where the charging chip was fried.

Cheers guys 👍Merry Christmas to all you lot too!
You can do laptops all day long. I love watching laptop fixes........ You are extremely skilled. Here this is the guy i watch. Just wish you would consider doing something like this. Fix kaptop and resell them. ua-cam.com/video/d2ptpRKmGAk/v-deo.html
Thanks Jason. I've not really looked at laptops much. So might have a go at one 👍
@@BuyitFixit Doing laptops is no different than what you just fixed. WITHOUT a guide...
It was fairly obvious it was missing…not a good advert for that camera. I was shouting at the screen……
Either that or my eyes 😂😂Sometimes it's easier to spot things when you're watching back, but when you're recording, thinking, and trying to keep the conversation going at the same time it's quite easy to miss things..
@BuyitFixit very true.
The upgraded RG35XX Plus is only £38 including delivery. Wait until the Chinese New Year sale and it will be even less. IMHO you overpaid. All the best.
... very interesting video though!
Thanks 👍yes probably overpaid as you said, but because I buy broken things to fix on UA-cam it's still worth it to me 🙂
Faulty. Anbernic. RG35XX. Hand. Held. Console. Can. I. Fix. it
Awesome reverse engineering. over complicated charging circuitry.
Thanks mate 👍
