Amazing period where popular music was sung by true singers. We had such a tenor in France in the 60s, Luis Mariano. My parents were fans of his so beautiful voice. I was amazed as child and until now by what he could do on what I call now the passagio. Without any shame, I can tell that Luis Mariano built up my ears.

Luis Mariano - ¡ Ay, ay, ay! (1963).

I am still the first time to hear, what a wonderful song, his vocal cords are 100% open, his whole sense of alto and treble, his head sound, few people than him, alto is very standardized, not like the three tenors, the wrong, the voice singing with the breath to the mouth and then to the chest below the singing, instead of the alto.
The lowest midrange of the song, reflecting the true level, he is not flat, it is natural to first expand the distance between the front and the back diaphragm, hide the breath in the back diaphragm, and then, the whole sound relaxed, sound the middle. It's a high level alto that only Robert Merrill can sing, with a perfect pitch. Very open alto. That's great.
You're a baritone. You know what I mean. Thank you, give me a good singer, I can learn from him.

@@lisaszxu1961 very happy that you liked him. Even when I sung heavier roles like Macbeth, Rigoletto or Golaud, I had him in a corner of my mind. Mariano never sung opera but only french operetta and popular songs (not always the best taste). Women were crazy about him (hopeless), he was an absolute star.

He's kind of like Claudio Villa, but Claudio Villa can sing opera directly and very well, and his vocal opening technique is very good, despite being very short.
When he was young, the Italian ladies were crazy about him.

Never forget that he died in Switzerland in a camp organised by the swiss government to send him back to Germany. Dark period.

What a disaster - to show maestro's photo together with a Nazi plane...

What I want to say is that our great tenor lived in an unfortunate time of war, and let me not forget that the Nazi war took Schmidt's life, otherwise he would have sung many more songs for us, and we mourn him. Never forget that the Nazis took 38 years of his young life.

@@lisaszxu1961 that is why I was shocked to see a Nazi symbol behind his photo!

I wasn’t. Finally somebody showing without any modesty the horror of the history. The portrait of this small man with one of the most incredible voice of the century became a symbol. Never forget, this is what means this “collage”. And be aware that these monsters are still behind our doors

@@armenak20962 es, the country that used to be socialist and then introduced democratic elections is still at war today. Peace is the right path. Instead of going to war to satisfy the prestige vanity of a few.
