Thank you for sharing your story brother. It is not easy being wise in an unwise culture. Thousands of years of institutionalize false practices are very, very hard to let go. Especially when the power favors those making the rules.
I love your ability to see your wife as equals and to see that she was in dire need of help. You see beyond tolerance and rejection. The selfish person would have said " leave, you shame me", and the tolerant person would have said, "it's okay just don't ask anything of me", but you simple reach deep in your heart and simply pulled her out of that darkness - that's love.
To your concern about the difficulty of marriages to widows, mainly, I think, is because of the false conception on the purity of woman. Since they are not value very high to begin with, any tinted-ness greatly devalues further. It's just another reason for the suppression and control over women. Men exploit this power as the culture supports it strongly. So women are left defenseless and helpless resulting in abuse and ultimately destruction.(Which is why we hear about these so often.) Your case is special in that you were able to break through the entrapment of your clan. If you would have stayed, things would have been much different and harder. So in a sense, you may have your father to thank for because, even though you might not see it, culture and clan grasps are extremely strong. As strong as you were, there are also so very strong evil at work. Be fortunate that your strong sense of care, love, and respect guided you to a more enriched life. Life is short; take the time to enjoy it all the way to the end; and make peace with the final journey - the one that we all must take.

You need to respect you spouse, don’t matter the husband or wife. If you do not respect them, why would anyone else!? I am glad that Hmong men are slowly changing, I cant deal with the majority of highly spoiled and entitled older generation of men in our community.

Old Hmong traditions are just that. In order to move forward in today's world, we all need to shed all traditions that are holding us back, whatever that maybe. It takes hundreds of years and even thousands of years to mentally change as an ethnic group. If we only change the way we think, that is more than half the battle. In order to change and move with the modern world, we have to acknowledge our flaws and correct it. My family set foot in America in December 1979 (8-track tape was already being replaced by cassette). I started in 2nd grade. I graduated high school in 1992 (My English was still not great). Forget about a bachelor's degree, if you can speak English clearly, that was already a huge achievement. I've enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps from 92-96 (My English was better). CD player definitely was in style in the 90s. In 95' I bought this CD/Cassette tape, equalization car stereo in Japan (I was in Japan). At that time the system was around $1,200, a month's worth of pay. The technology was about 5-10 years more advanced than any American made stereos. In electronic technologies, Japanese are superior and may still be true today. Here are some big Japanese brands you cannot ignore: Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Suzuki, Subaru, Sony, Toshiba, Yamaha, Komatsu, Panasonic, Canon, Bridgestone Tire and others (These are brands on top of my head). I wish and challenge us to have a Hmong brand or brands that will be known worldwide. We have the opportunities and technologies here in American to achieve that goal. I don't care if it's a paper clip. Watch "Army Ants" or "Driver Ants" on UA-cam, these ants will show you what working together can do. I can still remember when Hmong people was super motivated to achieve their medical and lawyer's status (this is our saying for high education). This is still true today. If Hmong are known as doctors and lawyers, that is a great deal.
It seems like I'm off topic but, in order to change and to revamp our entire being, our way of thinking, we must see what's happening around the world. To achieve such a monumental goal, we must first love our wives, our daughters (our sons are already kings, so I'm not going to talk about them), educated ourselves and think big. We have to think outside the box. A map is a perfect example. Know where you are, so you can plan for a better future. Live Global Positioning System (GPS) is even better. Know what's beyond earth and our solar system. Knowledge is power and when you have that power you will learn to appreciate the little things like your wife, your children, and just to have food on the table. We don't need any more hate Ahmong ourselves (Ahmong is intentional). We already have too many haters out there.
Why TF we worried about who marries who. Brother, you married who you want. Some of these OGs need to be in re-education camps. It didn't take China long to transformer from Imperial rule to communism. Between the 2, I think communism is the better choice.

He married my mother and he loved her with all his heart. He never cheated on her. My grandma wanted him to.divorce her. He didn't. They forced my father and mother to leave and They did. They had nothing. They made small hut with just a roof. They were very poor. They did everything together. They loved eachother so much. He just passed away and before he did, he was scared that he will not be able to find my mother in the afterlife. My mother missed him so much and I know he misses her too. Their life especially my father as an orphanage was so sad. Maybe someday I'll have may tell the story.
