Daytona USA - Model 2 Emulator network fun

- While making my new UA-cam trailer awhile back, I reused some of the old footage of the 8 player single system Daytona USA network I'd setup awhile back. I'd also figured out a way that I could overlay the videos of the panoramic multi-screen demo from all three courses (in 4 player networked mode) so that they would all fit on one screen. I got an idea in my head to edit the two seprate Daytona 8 player videos into one. Then I thought, why not just use some new footage - footage where I'm actually making an effort to try and get to the goal - and make a new video - so I did.
Ideally I would have liked to use Bandicam to record the 8 player link-up, but the extra power required for video capture on top of 8 emulators working simultaneously and linked up was just causing too much slow down and making the game unplayable as well as causing major lag between the emulators. I compromised in the end and used Hypercam, which always seems to make the recorded footage seem waaaay too fast and also doesn't do sound. I sort of got around this by using my phone to record the sound and then slowing the footage down after recording it. The downside to this though is it means the gameplay video is only playing back at about 20 fps. I do show a bit of footage recorded with an external camera (my phone's) at the end so you can see the speed it should be going at. Also, just for the hell of it, I demonstrate a LAN between two separate PCs both running multiple emulators, to simulate an 8 player network.
I've configured the controls on all 8 emulators to one joypad, a PS3 Dualshock 3 which I'm using as an emulated Xbox 360 pad. This in itself also caused a lot of issues as far as gameplay was concerned for me, as playing M2 Emu Daytona with anything other than a wheel is a very twitchy experience (I have got a wheel I could've set-up, but, meh... couldn't be arsed going back through the config settings of 8 emulators). Having all 8 cars on one pad also presented a bit of extra challenge as far as avoiding them all was also concerned...
It is possible to map individual joypads to the different emulators, so in theory you could have a true 8 player game, providing you've got enough USB ports.

In Daytona USA, the multiplayer end-race animation for positions 5 through 8 are the same as the multiplayer end-race animation for 4th place (the car wrecks when it touches the wall). This also means that any car who does not get a podium finish in a Daytona USA multiplayer race always have the same animation for 4th through 8th.
When a multiplayer Daytona USA race ends, the car...
1st - Skids and stops flawlessly.
2nd - Spins out of control passing the camera.
3rd - Hits the wall.
4th or worse - Touches the wall, causing it to wreck.
And when the car touches the wall when the car not get a Podium it will flip up and over

I have a question. How do you make the game not look so bright in the emulator?
If you change the type of cabinet in the test menu (between deluxe and twin) it seems to affect the brightness.
MrThunderwing when can we set up a linked match in some model2 games my friend?
I must admit I've kind of wussed out of the Model 2 online thing, I read the bit in the set-up about "Do this at your own risk" (or words to that effect) as it involves making changes to the modem and it kinda scared me off. Are the servers still working for the PS3 version of Daytona USA? Could be an alternative - I suspect you'd probably kick my arse though, I think I can remember seeing some impressive times in your videos.
You should check out the work of Ariane Fugmann, she's doing some pretty cool stuff with M2 Emu network.
its not that bad.. you can get hibachi and we add each other on the vpn list and when ever we are on or schedule a time we can do the ip ring within the vpn.
I need with the emulator, every time I try to start a rom, it always come up "emulator.exe has stoped working" I got pixel shader 3.0, I tryed it on the normal & multi pc exe's, I used Direct X on this, but it still dosn't work, please help!
No idea mate. I'd suggest making sure all your DirectX drivers are up to date, but it sounds like you already tried that.

hi, i can not controll the second player. only when i select with the mouse the second screen. But then, i can't controll player 1. any idea?
'Fraid not, I've never had any issues like that. I've been able to configure different joypads to different versions of the emulator or just have all of them configured to one like I'm doing here. I'm not doing anything special to get them working, just configuring the inputs the same way I would in 1 player.
Thanks for responding. I configured the left analogstick for p1 and the right analogstick for player 2 and it worked. Gona try it with 2 joysticks.
How can I play Daytona USA in Multiplayer?
Look up a tutorial on how to link up multiple versions of the emulator.

I looked up a video on UA-cam years ago that explained how to do it. I think the documentation that comes with the emulator also explains how to set it up. There's also lots of information you can find online with a bit of Googling. You just need to use a bit of initiative to find stuff like this out.
on the same PC just open the m2network.ini and make the "next IP" alway 127.0.0.1, then give each car a different port number

I don't have enough joypads or USB slots to do a full 8 players. Also, none of my friends are particularly into gaming, much less retro arcade racers, so it would be hard to try and persuade a group of them into doing something like this. I have uploaded a few networked 2 player videos though.
lets hope maybe one day i can challege you in this game
