We don't celebrate it in our home because it just doesn't honor God. I have learned that things that are truly evil often come disguised as something innocent. Thank you for sharing! 🙏☺️
We stopped COMPLETELY this year. The Lord spoke to me and I finally listened . Lord, please forgive me for not listening sooner. It feels so so so much better.
I love this so much. I grew up in a family that didn't celebrate Halloween either and their were times when I was a teenager that I would dress up and go out with friends thinking I was missing something but now that I'm a mother and have grown more in my faith we have decided as today would have been my daughter's first Halloween that we aren't going to celebrate it as it doesn't bring glory to God.
Thank you for sharing your heart Ann Mary! I grew up in a family that didn't celebrate Halloween. There was no issue about it as a child. When I became a mother and had my own children we lived in a cul de sac with many children and I felt pressured to have my children participate. For two years we participated but I felt such conviction that something wasn't right. I knew I needed to take the initiative to pray and research into the history and purpose behind Halloween just like you did. My children now 8 and 6 feel very similarly to your girls! They just love Jesus and when we told them that Mommy and Daddy discovered that it did not honor Jesus and we felt by the Holy Spirit that if we participated we would be grieving His heart then they were full on board. We have family and friends that feel differently and we do not argue or make them feel badly that they do and we don't! They just know and I think that perhaps that has been the most beautiful part of the our children's testimony learning to love and handle opposition well even when it isn't popular. Blessings to you!
Wow, Emily! What a BEAUTIFUL testimony! It warms my heart so much to hear how convicted you felt. You are absolutely right - One of the most amazing part is learning to handle different opinions with love. Thank you so much for sharing ❤
Just found your channel and loved your modesty video… and this one got me to subscribe. You make me fell less alone on this walk. You are a light! God bless you & your family.
Amen! We don't celebrate it either. It's hard being the example, but I'm grateful for His love and sacrifice towards me. Candy and a costume can't compare.
Thank you for sharing! I totally agree with you! As a kid my family never celebrated Halloween. So now I am against celebrating Halloween as a mother of 3 young kids. We never trick or treat nor doing costumes. My boys liked to see scary decorations but we talk that all those scary decor is bringing up our negative emotions and negative character traits and dims our light inside us. But all of the people and friends around us push our family to start celebrating Halloween because it is more “appropriate “ in our modern society.
I love that you are so rooted in your beliefs! Thank for sharing your convictions - It's so refreshing to see! I so get that - the people around us have also "highly encouraging" us to celebrate Halloween and that "it's only candy and costumes" or that "they're just kids" even after sharing the true reason why we chose to quit celebrating. I wonder if when we do something counter-cultural, it may make people uncomfortable for whatever reason, even when they probably only want the best for us and our kids ❤
Thank you for sharing. This is the second year our granddaughter isnt doing Halloween because she lives wirh us now and we dont. Thankfully we have her in an awesome school that doesnt so she doesnt have that pressure or desire from school. She loves Jesus and has been baptized already too. ❤
I celebrated Halloween when I was little and it was before my mom and I turned Christians. In fact we were catholics before for many years. Even when I was out during Halloween as a teen I always felt off like I don't belong out there. The atmosphere always felt heavy and eerie. My plans always NEVER came out. I quit by age 19 I'm 34 now. I never understood exactly why it was bad to celebrate until 4 years ago I looked up the history on it and it was such a huge eye opener. Halloween has witchcraft roots. People may want to dress up cute and not scary on Halloween thinking because they don't partake in the witchcraft that they are fine. In fact it's the opposite, we curse our lives when we go out on that day. You can't remove its original origins. Another thing, now I been Christians for 5 years exactly since I was 29 and I was an atheist all my life even as a catholic. I teach my kids not to get candy's from strangers. So I use that a lot when people ask me because while its spiritual its also common sense why I don't celebrate Halloween and I explain too because of the roots. The word of God says what fellowship does light have with darkness? Also it says that light came into the world and people prefer darkness. When I think about that, I think about how humans are so in love with darkness. We rather love the scary stuff and the things that God tell us to stay away from. I recommend reading an article from the History channel website on Halloween and for the words that you don't know the meaning to I recommend you look up the definition because they were huge keys to understanding the article. I realized many don't know Halloween is bad because we don't search for ourselves and go with the flow of other people. When we educate ourselves we will know how to answer and teach others, God bless!
Wow, just wow! Thank you for making the time to write this awesome message. If you wouldn't mind linking the link to the article you are referring to, I'd love reading it ❤
Me and my family don’t celebrate Halloween too!! And I’m still in this argument with my younger sister who thinks it’s okay for Christians to dress up for Halloween as long it’s not evil or anything!! But I know that God will open her eyes to see how demonic it is in many ways!! God bless you!! 🙏
We didn’t celebrate it last year or this year but I’m kind of struggling because we did many years before the last two , my boys are only 6&8 but they remember
I'm in the same boat! This is our first year not celebrating and my kids are 7 and almost 6. We're going to do something fun tonight that's not related to Halloween instead.
We allow our kids to go to Halloween partirs if they are invited. But we don't celebrate it in our home, I don't take our youngest child trick-or-treating. Being German, we celebrate St. Martin's Day. For those who are not familiar with the tradition: It's not about worshipping a saint! It is about pointing toward a good example of compassion and generosity. There are lantern walks and children walk to the neighbors' houses asking for candy. But you don't threaten them with "tricks" - you sing a little song and will get candy in return.
I have gone back and forth in my mind about Halloween for several years now. The first year that we didnt celebrate it, I basically locked the doors, turned off the lights, and ignored the doorbell. We watched movies lol. But then, as years have gone on, I have started using Halloween as a chance to evangelize. I hand out Jesus ❤'s you stickers, Bible verse bracelets, simple tracts, and some bubbles or play doh or whatever. I see it as a chance to be light in the darkness. We don't have to fear the darkness. But then this year while doing that, my four year old really wanted to go trick or treat for a couple pieces of candy. So I took him down our street, he got a couple pieces of candy (which I generally do not allow at all) and was happy. Idk. Now I feel conflicted, because it is a catholic holiday. Evert October 31st we go over a lesson on Martin Luther, the 95 theses, and why we are protestant Christians. So despite the ghouls and goblins of current Halloween, it really is also reformation day and a day we should celebrate. But not Halloween. Like I said, conflicted.
We should not look to others for validation of our actions. Look within. Allow the Holy Spirit to give you discernment. I have peace about the whole thing. My girls love Jesus, my girls know that there is an enemy out there. They had trick or treat bags this year "Life is scary without Jesus". I want people to come up and ask them about Jesus,I want them to be able to be in any situation and know what they believe and be able to defend it. I respect everyone's free will to celebrate or refrain. The choice is ours. But don't choose something because someone else made you feel bad. Choose something because you looked inward and see that the Holy Spirit is telling you you shouldn't. ❤
I so appreciate you sharing your honest thoughts! It seems like you are wanting to be intentional about how to handle it. I hope you keep seeking God’s guidance-He sees your heart and all you’re doing for His glory ❤
As a fellow Lutheran, our family celebrates St. Martin's Day. It is not about worshipping a man but about pointing to a good example and being a light in this world. That's why we craft lanterns and walk through the dark with them. The children get candy from neighbors if they sing a little song to them. In most regions here that song is about Martin of Tours, but in very protestant regions like mine it is a song about Martin Luther. What I am trying to say is, you could celebrate like this even without mentioning Martin of Tours, you could talk about being a light in the world and about Christ being our light, make lanterns, and do the candy collecting tour.
We are very selective in how we approach this holiday. We invite cousins over for a movie-night and candy inside. We live in a community that has hundreds of trick-or-treaters, so we place a bowl of candy out side along with Bible book marks, gospel tracts or something that points people to Jesus. It feels like a good balance of doing something fun with the kids and also sharing the gospel with the community. We don’t do costumes, we don’t do scary, but we do eat candy and thank Jesus for time with family😊
Halloween was both of my husband’s and my favorite holiday as kids (his for the candy and mine for the costumes). I even dressed up and went trick or treating at 23 with my kid aunt because she didn’t have anyone to take her before (I’m 4’10” and looked like a kid myself). 3 years ago we learned about the original child sacrifice history of the holiday and saw videos from Satanists, dark witches, and ex witches discussing how they use it to help strengthen the enemy and weaken Christians. My best friend is also a nature based Wiccan and I couldn’t ignore the connection for celebrating the holiday. We do purchase play costumes when they go on sale after the holiday and we try to avoid movies that bring fear and darkness into our home, despite those and haunted houses having previously been some of my favorite activities. There are other fun activities we can do as a family to make memories. We also don’t lie about Santa or other magical creatures and that decision came when our oldest was two and told us they are pretend.
Halloween is technically celebrated on October 31st, but with tv programs can run all month long with horror movies of all kinds, from lighthearted to bring downright evil. As a rule, I don't watch horror movies, except for the ones that are so obviously fake and can't really be taken seriously.

Just to clarify Halloween as the world knows it today with witches and goblins and scary things is NOT Catholic. Catholic Halloween is praying not this devilish stuff. Because the word Halloween means all hallows Eve the Eve of the Holy day of souls. Just want to clarify that.
Thank you for clarifying! If I remember correctly, All Hallows's Day started as an ancient Celtic tradition, all the way to now what we know as the Halloween in North America. I haven't re-looked into it since we stopped celebrating four years ago so my memory may not be accurate too haha
While I understand the roots of how Halloween started, we have chosen to quit celebrating it because of what it now represents darkness. Our focus is to seek Jesus in all we do. Ultimately, every family makes choices in alignment with their own values ❤
Yes, I totally agree with the decorations! I have found that the atmosphere around Halloween can feel very dark overall. Celebrating Christmas and Easter focusing on their true meaning is such a beautiful way to honour our faith. It is encouraging to hear how you are also making decisions that reflect your beliefs ❤
Did the Lord also tell you not to celebrate Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, Valentines Day, and 4th of July? Those holidays aren’t part of God or in the Bible 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. Don’t contradict yourself
