A bit of trivia you may not know: Emma Thompson’s crying scene in the bedroom was real. In an interview at a later time she discussed how she was still grieving he ex-husband Kenneth Branagh’s infidelity with Helena Bonham Carter when this movie was filmed. All that raw emotion came out in this scene.
Emma Thompson in this movie crushes her role. That moment in the bedroom is one of the best pieces of acting ever. I love this film, and it’s come under some modern criticism for being too patriarchal but I still think it’s just sweet. -I can’t believe you left out Colin firth chasing his love out of the edit
Emma’s crying was real. In an interview some time later she discussed how she was still grieving Kenneth Branagh’s infidelity with Helena Bonham Carter when this movie was filmed. All of that emotion came flooding out in this scene.
To be fair the criticism is very much warranted. Bunch of old men with young women (Keira was 17 during filming), a guy getting rewarded for being a stalker who f****s over his best friend with a kiss, the whole American girls story, the very weird relationship between the author and his young Portuguese house keeper he can't even speak to properly... The sweetest relationship was between Daniel/Liam and the kid and the two porn stand ins. I liked the relationship between Thompson and Rickman for how real it was.. that being said it's stil a fun movie. You can criticize it and still enjoy it.
Big thing - The girl Liam Neeson references in the beginning - Claudia Shiffer - is the actress that plays the woman he bumps into at the end of the movie. So he does get his dream. This movie is fantastic. The acting really is amazing. I'm sooo impressed by Emma Thompson in this. She makes you feel what she feels throughout, it's great. I also love the relationship between Jamie and the girl. Probably my favorite relationship in this
I got to the end and wondered why we hadn't seen any more of Colin Firth's storyline. That's when I realised just how much plot is in this film because of how much you'd had to cut out. It's like 3-4 films worth of story telling, but somehow it doesn't feel like too much when you're watching. Really good writing and pacing.
This movie makes me cry every time. Emma Thompson is so relatable and genuine. She’s a wonderful actress. A lot of us have had that happen to us and it was nice that the movie showed the strength a lot of us moms have to have to keep a brave face for our kiddos no matter how badly our hearts are hurting. Our babies always come first and our feelings second no matter how distraught you may be. The scene in her bedroom breaks me every time.
I can’t believe you’ve never seen love actually it’s the best christmas film 🙏🏻🙏🏻😭😭😭 the music in this film is iconic as well it’s just so depressing and feel good at the same time. And of course contains a load of our iconic actors and actresses
As a fellow British person, how you've reached this point in life with access to ITV2 and not seen this film at least 3 times purely by accident is impressive to me 🤣🤣🤣
emma thompson (professor trelawney) just experienced being cheated by her ex-husband (professor lockhart) when she filmed this movie so it was rly hard for her. Btw the mistress was helen bonham carter (bellatrix)
Probably my favourite performance in this movie is Bill Nighy, like you wouldn’t believe it’s the same guy who plays Davy Jones in Pirates. And Rowan Atkinson just delivers one the best comedic cameos ever.
This is absolutely THE go to Christmas movie for me. It's the most British Christmas film imo and all the better for it. Love how it covers such a wide range of situations and emotions.
At 6:33 when you see the "cute little kid", say your gonna cry and don't show the kid again. Well, that "cute little kid" is actually Thomas Brodie-Sangster(aka Thomas Brodie) from Maze Runner and a number of other movies. He turns 32 this year and grew up to be a "gorgeous man" today.
Great film, up, down, up, down, from laughter to crying. Alan Rickman was my neighbour in the 90s and we'd all hang out at Dans cafe and my son once yelled "Mummy! its the Sheriff of Nottingham!", which was totally his best roll as far as kids are concerned. He roared with laughter and tickled James and really made him laugh. I miss Alan so very much, bless his heart😔 Anyway, great vid, thank you x Happy Xmas y'all 🎅🎅🎅
I could be remembering wrong, but I seem to recall reading that in an early version of the script, Mr. Bean's character is actually an angel - like, a legitimate angel - intervening intentionally to try to help people, or something? Which is why he pops up and, well, does what he does. Takes forever with Rickman so that he'll hopefully get the message he's making a mistake, causes the distraction at the airport so Sam can go get his girl, etc.
Aside from the Harry Potter connections, this movie also has a Phineas And Ferb connection. Liam's stepson Sam voices Ferb and the American girl he's in love with voices Vanessa Doofenshmirtz, who Ferb has a crush on. This is the closest to perfect any movie has ever achieved, in my opinion!
I re-watched this on Christmas 2020 and I was really struck by how much it feels like a period drama, but one about my own youth. The music, the clothes, the Nokia ringtone, everything just screams "turn of the century."
A fantastic film, and a boost to almost everyone's CV except Lucia Moniz, who played Aurelia, the Portuguese housekeeper for Colin Firth's Jamie. Her fellow countrymen saw it as an "English-speaking saviour"-enabling role, and she struggled to get work for several years after.
Your reactions make me feel warm inside because my eyes also tend to water very easily no matter what emotion haha! This movie is so good, British comedy is just pure gold to me! Another great movie, another great reaction Seb! ✨Also Mr. Bean was the mvp of this movie lmao I love him
This is one of my absolute favorite movies period. Not just christmas movies. I was in middle school when this came out and it was a staple at my sleep overs. We loved this movie. It holds up.
I find your reaction in every video so sincere and honest. it hits me every time how emotional in every category of movies you watch. a man need not be afraid to show his emotional side. keep it up with your youtube channel. I enjoy it every time.
I still remember the first time I saw this and being completely enchanted. All these years ( and many, many viewings) later I still feel the same. 💖 Geez..Andrew Lincoln is gorgeous here 😆
Did you realise that in this movie Snape was married to Professor Trelawney? And the little kid with Nielsen is Bran's friend from game of thrones? So many awesome actors! And the guy with all the phones calls during the make out is actually Brazilian, one of my country's great artists. He did Xerxes from 300. Rodrigo Santoro is his name.
I'm so happy that you watched this movie and enjoyed it!! I absolutely LOVE this movie. I'm always impressed with how well they managed to flesh out the characters despite there being so many. They still felt like real people. I also like that this film covers various types of love. Young love, unrequited love, awkward love, failed love, etc. I also appreciate that not everyone got a happy ending. And despite there being some truly heartbreaking moments (i.e. Emma Thompson's AMAZING acting during the Joni Mitchell/bedroom scene) they did a great job of balancing it out with humor. I particularly like the scene you briefly showed of Jaime at the lake where she jumps in and he's like "Great now she'll think I'm crazy if I don't jump in too" haha. I haven't watched this movie in a few years... I used to watch it once every year or so. I need to watch it again now!
The original song love is all around - wet wet wet🤣 and the Christmas version they do on this is actually on Spotify/assume apple music whatever u have. They are BANGERS
This is definitely one of the films I watch every December. I enjoy it! Plus all the characters and seeing how they connect reminds me of another film I enjoy and watch at least once a year that has lots of great actors in it: Playing By Heart. Glad you enjoyed this film, too!
I have this fight with my wife all the time. We see Alan Rickman, and she goes "Hey, it's Snape!" and I go "No, it's Hans Gruber." He was Hans Gruber _before_ he was Snape. But, of course, AR is excellent in basically everything he's been in.
You cut out Just Incases!! That my FAVORITE part! Thank you buddy for this, it was wonderful experiencing this again with you, looking forward to a ton of Holiday reacting -
They had a reunion of the Love Actually cast on Red Nose Day a few years back, a short catch-up on all the main characters (except Rickman/Thompson). Look for Red Nose Actually.
Loved your reaction! My all time favourite Christmas movie. Such a stellar cast, the movie takes you from high to low and everywhere in between. I really enjoyed your take on it.
Well, there's nothing more I enjoy than watching a Brit enjoy a classic like Love Actually, full of proper British actors. I appreciate your reaction. Also, 22:35 - was a cultural touchstone when this movie came out. Many people, did that very same gesture to their beloved's (unrequited or not) because of that scene.
WAIT THAT'S SCRIMGEOUR??? Ngl I feel like an idiot for not recognizing that it was Bill Nighy playing the minister from HP. I feel like he plays his characters do well, that the character is all you actually see, and I think that is brilliant
Stumbling across this video was the best thing to happen to my Monday! Every time I was thinking something you would be saying it out loud. Lol, thanks for the reaction…I needed it!
The people in the audience at the school audience genuinely didn't know it was gonna end with the kiss between David and Natalie, so they were genuinely surprised.
This is one of my favorite Christmas movies! I love how not every story turns out happy. Seeing Sam gets his kiss at the airport from Joanna always gets me. Great reaction! Wanted to add that I was not biased toward Alan Rickman because of Snape. Snape could never match the evil of making Emma Thompson cry.
I don’t know how old you are but the wet wet wet song “I feel it in my fingers” song was in the charts for what felt like AGES! TOTPs played the number 1 and it was on the radio for what felt like a bloody eternity I was really young (under 8) and I still feel like running away when that song comes on! I remember distinctly running into my garden and climbing into the tree house with my sisters and one of those terrible portable TVs (which never worked properly because our house was surrounded by fields but black and white fuzzy zig and zag or bodger and badger was 10x better because literally anything was better than that! )
It's official, mate, this is now going to be a part of my seasonal regiment to kick off christmas! Along with hearing the original Band Aid, Lennon's x-mass ditty, The Pogues Fairytale, and watching Alistair Sims A Christmas Carol...I will have to watch this reaction vid, wish it was longer but there ya go :)
My entire family watches the movie every year 1 week before Christmas. for the past 10 years Everyone is there, brother, parents, friends.. big love actually movie night.
2:28 - "Screaming throwing up and crying" (?) - that was me watching certain scenes of "Nimona" ... almost all of the 11 times that film made me cry... except a different source / cause (all you reading this should watch it!). It's actually rare for a film to get me to cry at all, but my Nimona reaction just about matched Seb's "Avengers: Endgame" reaction!
I love all your Snape comments , it's hard to not hear the potions master when watching other films with Alan Rickman and hearing that voice. I recommend the musical film Sweeney Todd with Johnny Depp as the main character. You'll see lots of familiar faces in the cast.
They were talking on the radio the other day about who should pay the bill in a restaurant when a group of friends are together, especially when one of them is extremely wealthy. Someone then told of the time Alan Rickman was out with a large group of friends. He insisted on paying, the friends said no. Alan paused, before telling them that it wasn’t a problem because, he said, of two words: Harry. Potter.
Oh yeah and for Alan Rickman in his, in my opinion, most hilarious role, I highly suggest Dogma starring Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Chris Rock, Salma Hayek, and obviously Alan Rickman, such a hilarious and utterly silly movie :D
Hah! Everyone just adores Colin Firth right? Try A Single Man. He was astonishing in that one. He was so layered, subtle and and times intensely endearing in that. What an actor.
My friend recommend this film for streaming over netflix Christmas Day, i wasnt sure what to expect, not only did it make me laugh, but it made me cry! Come boxing day, I grabbed in the christmas sale to add to my christmas box. How did i miss this one!
You better dance with Hugh when he does!
Which other christmas movies do you love?
santaClaus the movie with Dudley Moore. a old movie but good one
Last year I watched an animated movie called Klaus and I'm definitely gonna make it my new Christmas tradition 🎄
The Holiday! Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, and Jack Black. It’s such a great movie, and I feel like it is so underrated!
Last Holiday with Queen Latifah is lovely and underrated. I believe Hugh would agree.
Klaus is a recent favorite. Highly recommend it
Also- Elf, Christmas Story

bruh the british acting scene got hella drama wth
So basically, professor Trelawney cried because Gilderoy Lockhart cheated on her with Bellatrix Lestrange?
Wasn't Tim Burton still married when she got with him as well?
That scene is one of my favorite moments of an actors performance all time, because its soo real
I only watched that film with my mum once for that exact same reason. She started sobbing alongside Emma instantly, knew the situation too well
everyone absolutely killed it in this movie its all so believable
Literally all the British actors are in this movie 😄
the cast is SO STACKED xD
“Bilbo... what are you doing?!” 😂
I completely forgot how much of a STACKED cast this had tbh!
Emma Thompson in this movie crushes her role. That moment in the bedroom is one of the best pieces of acting ever. I love this film, and it’s come under some modern criticism for being too patriarchal but I still think it’s just sweet.

Trelawney should have known better than to marry Snape, I guess.
@@markwilliamson8047 Wow... I never knew about any of that. Wild.

The music theme for Jamie & Aurelia is my ringtone.
The Jamie and Aurelia storyline is my favourite, definitely 🥰
"so many daddies in this"
truer words never been spoken

Loved the reaction! If you get a chance, you should try watching "The Holiday" with Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz. It's another Holiday fave for me
Yes! This and The Holiday are top two, Klaus from a couple of years ago is probably the only film that has come close to them for me
Yes! Love The Holiday! ❤️
It's shit
Is that where they switch lives? I saw it on Netflix or Amazon and thought about it. If it’s as good as Love Actually I’m for sure gonna watch it.
@@kbob9625 Sort of, they switch houses for the holidays. It’s on Netflix

Who knew Love, actually would be the movie that definitely proves Seb has daddy issues
“You’ve also made a fool out of me,” is one of the most crushing lines of cinema.
emma thompson (professor trelawney) just experienced being cheated by her ex-husband (professor lockhart) when she filmed this movie so it was rly hard for her. Btw the mistress was helen bonham carter (bellatrix)
And her new husband was Snape lol
"you can give me your potions class" 😂😂
I really think you should watch the kingsman movies and the maze runner trilogy (yes, I got the idea thanks to Colin Firth and Thomas Brodie-Sangster)
GREAT idea 😮💨😮💨
YES OMG SEB IF YOU REACT TO THE MAZE RUNNER TRILOGY MY LIFE WILL BE COMPLETE
YES PLEASE WATCH THE MAZE RUNNER TRILOGY!!!
AND THE GENTLEMEN BY GUY RITCHIE (the film not the series)
Probably my favourite performance in this movie is Bill Nighy, like you wouldn’t believe it’s the same guy who plays Davy Jones in Pirates.
And Rowan Atkinson just delivers one the best comedic cameos ever.
This film made Bill Nighy my favorite actor! He so very, very good!
This is absolutely THE go to Christmas movie for me. It's the most British Christmas film imo and all the better for it. Love how it covers such a wide range of situations and emotions.

You're half right. He was SUPPOSED to be, but they decided to cut that whole storyline, so now there's only small hints
I can’t believe Professor Snape would cheat on Professor Trelawney like that 😦
Aside from the Harry Potter connections, this movie also has a Phineas And Ferb connection. Liam's stepson Sam voices Ferb and the American girl he's in love with voices Vanessa Doofenshmirtz, who Ferb has a crush on. This is the closest to perfect any movie has ever achieved, in my opinion!
This movie really is a perfect depiction of all kinds of love and what it can do to us
So beautiful, tragic, sad, happy...all of it
I swear thomas brodie sangster doesn’t age he basically looks the same right now as he did in this movie..
"I hate Uncle Jamie!" One of my fave films! So romantic, heartbreaking, funny, etc.
I re-watched this on Christmas 2020 and I was really struck by how much it feels like a period drama, but one about my own youth. The music, the clothes, the Nokia ringtone, everything just screams "turn of the century."

there are so many classic christmas movies and this is just one of them lol
This is one of my absolute favorite movies period. Not just christmas movies. I was in middle school when this came out and it was a staple at my sleep overs. We loved this movie. It holds up.

"The whole Snape affair" 😂

So did you not notice Snape’s name in this movie is Harry?
The Kiera Knightly/Andrew Lincoln video reveal is one of the most heart breaking scenes of any movie.
WAIT THAT'S SCRIMGEOUR???
Ngl I feel like an idiot for not recognizing that it was Bill Nighy playing the minister from HP. I feel like he plays his characters do well, that the character is all you actually see, and I think that is brilliant
“Stupid COW” 🤣💀 that got me Seb
Stumbling across this video was the best thing to happen to my Monday! Every time I was thinking something you would be saying it out loud. Lol, thanks for the reaction…I needed it!
LOVE ACTUALLY YESSS! CHRISTMAS MOVIE TIMES LET'S GO ❤ Loved your reaction as always Seb!
There were many other films that tried that multiple connected stories format after Love Actually, but I don't think any of them ever topped that one🎄
The people in the audience at the school audience genuinely didn't know it was gonna end with the kiss between David and Natalie, so they were genuinely surprised.
Glad you loved it! You should do the Kingsman films too. Love me some Colin :)
Your Daddy list is turning into a Daddy 1000 page manifesto 😅😇
This is one of my favorite Christmas movies! I love how not every story turns out happy. Seeing Sam gets his kiss at the airport from Joanna always gets me. Great reaction!
Wanted to add that I was not biased toward Alan Rickman because of Snape. Snape could never match the evil of making Emma Thompson cry.
#FACTS
THOMAS BRODIE SANGSTER IS THE CUTESSSTTT
Its ace when you get to watch a UK film and they're speaking our language... this reaction brought me much needed joy today! 🙃👏
Gasp. You had the audacity to ask if Alan/Snape is a daddy?
Man is fiiiiine. Lol
I don’t know how old you are but the wet wet wet song “I feel it in my fingers” song was in the charts for what felt like AGES! We do love the British accent. ❤️🥰❤️
This is one of my FAVORITE Christmas movies… so glad you watched this one!!
If you have fun while watching the film, we have fun watching you reaction - it is always very cheering me up to watch your reactions 😊😊

Amazing reaction! I laughed at so many of your one liners…. Thank you!
Omg I just remembered "that's right Ant or Dec" 🤣🤣🤣 one of my favourite bits
Thinking about it now after all these years Liam Neeson did actually lose his wife but not sure if it was before or after this movie
My all time fav movie with my all time fav Seb?
And yes, I do rewatch it every year, it never ever gets old!
Keira Knightley played Amidala's (Portman's) double in Star Wars.
So, yes. People do mix them up.
This is the cutest boy i have ever seen!! The way he smile..... Am i simping??
Alan Rickman is legend. You should absolutely watch Dogma for more hilarious Alan.
The guy with Kiera is Andrew Lincoln, original star of The Walking Dead. Also "Love Is All Around Us" was a hit in the '60s by The Troggs.
Great reaction, i'm glad you enjoyed it. This is one of my favourite 20 movies of all time, and second favourite Christmas movie after Die Hard.
Enjoyed this reaction, classic film and nice you found and watched it. Thanks for the great upload Seb ! Best Wishes, Ian
