:48 does it get any more BADASS than this guy?! Sergeant Major Merriiken?! WHAT!? A badass Merican named SGM Merriken. Only in Regiment man. Get some SGM. RLTW.
I've been thinking about the future of arctic warfare. How in the near future it will become one of the most necessary things for our modern military, and how we don't have a teir 2 special forces unit specializing in arctic warfare. If it's something that the DOD is considering I'd love to know. Thank you.
Well, I'd argue 4th IBCt of the 10th Mtn should be brought back to take 1/11's place (non-airborne) in Alaska. Mountain, air assault, and cold weather light infantry troops in support of 2/11's airborne operations in an arctic environment. EDIT: forget to mention, they should have an LRS unit up there too.
SF has ODAs specialized in mountain warfare. If the need was that great, the Ranger Regiment would shift their training syllabus at the unit level to meet that need and they still do mountain warfare training currently.
Politacally Correct Bullcrap, Gen Abram like Gen Schwartzkof were careerbig army leg commanders who hated Special Ops. For the same reason, they were both weak fat boyz in West Point who felt bullied by their roomates who were super fit on the football team and went into airborne and SF. Both generals got airborne wings a career progression but did the minimum to support jump units as commanders. Abrims thouht Rangers were out of control and his charter was daring them to screw up so he could ax them. He had to make the Rangers because in Nam every Div. had a LRRP unit. Leg Divisions commanders wanted then to recon a Mech unit route by walking down a road. LRRP team leaders would say we don't walk down roads, a TL could turn down a unsafe mission. So in 1868, all LRRP companies were converted to Ranger companies because in infantry doctrrine Rangers could be tasked with unsafe missions.
Because of General Creighton Abrams, as then- Chief of Staff of the Army, then and there, came 1st and 2d Ranger Battalion in 1974, and , My Unit, 3d Ranger Battalion on 03 October AD 1984. I Myself AM a Former Marine, however, to the Day of My ☠️, I will always be a More Elite Soldier, id est, RANGER. Sua Sponte, Rangers Lead The Way. 🇺🇸🇺🇲🪖💣💥🔥🪂‼️
Abrams Charter has handicapped the organization and culture of the Regiment from the beginning. If the Regiment could leave some of this stuff behind, it might have better retention. But it's not the only problem. First, it should shutdown the revolving door of officers who cycle through just to pad their resume. And like the rest of the selections, there shouldn't be separate pipelines for officers and senior enlisted. It's always been pretty scummy to have people do something you won't do yourself. I don't think I know any veterans from the Regiment that completely respect it or how its ran.
@@RagnarB175 just saying he spoke his opinion and instead of giving any useful insight on why you think the charter is good, you argued from a position of authority with an insult. It’s a useless charter for regiment and that’s a fact.
@@Steven-nx6cw I think you're trying to respond to someone else. I criticized the charter in my original comment in this thread. I wasn't a fan of it when I was in Regiment and I'm not now.
What planet are you on? It is the army’s premier light infantry unit. Google is right at your finger tips, but any research or intelligence behind a statement from a marine isn’t to be expected, clearly.
Earth :) Yes, I was a marine but now serving in the regiment. We are DA and recce unit, now do we have the capability of a light infantry unit...sure we do. But for the most part that is out dated and would be a waste of our time and resources.@@nate4716
I mean an infantry unit has no meaning outside of soldiers that primarily meet combat through moving with their own feet. People apply this idea that infantry = conventional or not special. Almost all SOF are infantry at their heart and it's why rucking is often a primary means of selection.

Tenth Special Forces Group (Airborne) and SEAL Team Two focus on arctic/cold weather warfare.

Rangers are not an infantry unit......LOL. This is why they lose out of top recruits who pick other sof units to go to...smh
