    I knew coming into this your review would be positive as I own one and swear by it, but my curiosity had me click on the link just on the off chance you hated it. If Blunty's words of praise were not enough, this capture card is insane and is an absolute stress saver for live streamers. This card does basically the same as the HD60 for recording videos, but where this card shines is in live media production as that "almost" zero latency is worth the extra money alone.

    I've had a Avermedia Live Gamer HD card for a few months now and find it great once up and running. It's pretty much this card minus the actual recording of 60fps and that awesome master record feature. This really is a great little card though I'd love to splurge on one, one day. Awesome vid as always, mate!

    Quick question please: Does it have the option to record game audio from line-in from another sound card? Rather than HDMI audio?

    Thanks Blunty. Very succinct review and I will be considering this not just for game capture, but for old home movie upscaling (with the help of the Portta PETCSHP 3 RCA Composite S-video R/L Audio to HDMI Converter Upscaler 720p/1080p) and transcoding.
    Heck, might even start a small (emphasis on small) composite upscaling and digital transcoding service with this thing :)

    Love your videos Blunty! I don't even have an interest in getting a capture card but I watched this video right to the end nonetheless. You definitely make some of the best review videos on UA-cam for pretty much everything you review. Always entertaining and informative.
    I've got a question that I reckon you would be able to answer (because I can't find a definitive answer anywhere). I've got an MSI Radeon R9 280X GPU, and I'm having some problems hooking up a third monitor to it. It has 2 MiniDisplay outs, a DVI out and an HDMI out. I've been using the DVI/HDMI combo for my dual monitor setup just fine for a while. I bought a third display and a passive MiniDisplay to HDMI cable, but it isn't doing the trick. The Catalyst Control Center is telling me I need to disable one of my monitors in order to use the third monitor (meaning I can't use all 3 at once). AMD's website explicitly says that this card can output to 4 monitors simultaneously. Do you have any idea what I need to do/buy to get this setup up and running? I've heard mention of an active MiniDisplay to HDMI converter, but I was thinking maybe switching out my DVI cable for a second passive MiniDisplay to HDMI. Any thoughts? I'm running Windows 7 if that makes any difference.
    Hopefully you have some insight into this, if not, no worries. Keep up the great work!

    I've got the original Elgato Game Capture HD, right now not looking to upgrade, mainly due to being forced to stick with a laptop ever since my Desktop died earlier this year (powerful laptop though, so for the moment it suits my needs).
    But I'd still keep it around regardless, due to its ability to capture stuff like my SNES and Genesis.

    The Picture, Audio and Mic recording seperately is a great feature for editing for sure. It surely is annoying when you see the mouths out of sync with the talking and I guess that helps prevent it in editing and is the cure.

    Thanks for the review, Blunty. Looked around before stumbling to one of your vids as usual.
    Other reviews for capture hardware were frankly embarrassing. Gems like "you can't tell the difference between 720p and 1080p" and "It does 1080p so who cares about 60fps"
    Coming from brain dead reviews like those, it's nice to find you, again with some bloody sense.

    I use a laptop, so I wouldn't be able to use this - but when I build my custom desktop ill have to look into this. I currently use a Hauppauge HD PVR Rocket, which allows the recording/streaming of systems that use HDMI (like this product) and RGB for systems like the PS2 or even the original xbox. It's capable of recording 1080p and can do all of its recording externally onto a flash drive. It's the best thing available for me at the time!

    Using either the Elgato HD60 or the HDPVR Rocket.
    Master copy is also something I had dreamed about for years... Setups I used to run years ago to be able to stream AND capture clean sources for editing into higher quality content later... absolute hogs and while fun learning experiences... not something I would want to do these days.
    Technology has come a long way from running your consoles through VHS :)

    Since it is a PCI 1.0 card I might get this for my RockBand4 and Halo 5 streams. Right now I am using the streaming app on Win 10 to get video and audio to my pc for streaming but this device would make it much better in overall quality.

    I'm curious about the Master Copy feature. Did you find that everything started recording at the exact same time making the need to sync everything up non-existant recording everything into El Gato? Also, do you find everything records at the same rate so there is no slippage in the sync? I'm curious because this could make my UA-cam recording a lot easier, unless of course it only works while Twitch Streaming.

    +Blunty great review, really indepth. Quick question though, I've always used internal capture cards and at the moment I'm using the Live Gamer HD (which does 1080p@30fps with max bitrate of 60Mbps). However the Live Gamer HD besides a HDMI input / output also has an Audio input / output through which my speakers are connected.
    How does this work with the Elgato HD60 Pro? Does the audio only go through HDMI, meaning I have to put away my speakers and connect my headphone to my screen? Or am I seeing that wrong?

    the feature set sounds impressive for sure, but i still love the pc-free mode with the avermedia lgp that won't throw a tantrum when my pc wants to. how granular are the twitch streaming settings in elgatos software? does it accomodate shitty aus connections as well as other software you've used blunty? (i'm on 0.8mbps up but can only afford 0.4mbps twitch streams before they conk out)

    Don't forget you are using two different monitors with two different response times to measure the delay. Yes there is a delay, but not one you can measure with traditional means.

    Im taking a shot here that the HD60 pro is better for streaming due to the fact that my computer cant handle the stress on its CPU since using the elgato externally with other software like OBS or XSPLIT increase my CPU to 100% and when i use the software of Elgato it doesn't cause my computer to blow up. This is me using a AMD 8350 FX but im thinking to get this! Thanks.

  • @stonzy87
    @stonzy87 8 років тому +1

    Would you say this is worth pawning my old external HD60 to get this? And are the file sizes smaller then what the HD60 is for 20 minute recording sessions for Let's Plays? Or should I just keep my HD60 and download their new software?

    • @BluntyTV
      @BluntyTV  8 років тому +1

      +stonzy87 Depends... functionally (at least with the new software) the HD60 and HD60 PRO are almost identical... one of the differentiation points is the instant game view though... which, at least for me, means the PRO is the better choice. If you already own the HD60 external unit tough, tougher decision.

    • @stonzy87
      @stonzy87 8 років тому

      +Blunty Are the file sizes around the same as Nvidia ShadowPlay recording? Or around the same? My issue with the external HD60 is the file sizes it made on the older software were so large they crashed Camtasia half the time, making them a nightmare to edit for UA-cam.

    • @BluntyTV
      @BluntyTV  8 років тому

      stonzy87 File size varies on your resolution, frame-rate, and bitrate and compression method settings... I don't "test" for that, because there's too much variability for me to answer that in any satisfactory sense.
      I can use the Nvidia Share recording set at up to 130mbs for example, creating massive files, or I can use 20mbs for smaller ones... and depending on how well the actual content compresses the file sizes will still vary with the same bitrates.

    • @stonzy87
      @stonzy87 8 років тому

      +Blunty okay, well thanks for the help anyway. Definitely going to have a think about getting rid of my HD60 for the Pro or not. Thanks for making the video. I don't keep up to date on stuff like this. So your reviews are not only good to watch, fun and helpful, but they also make me aware of these products. Which is handy for minority of people not in the know like me. Keep up the great content Blunty :).

    is it for laptop as well?

  • @N64xKING
    @N64xKING 8 років тому

    I use an Elgato HD dongle, and it's a real shame that the HD60 and 60pro have stripped features that I NEED. I record and stream from over 23 different consoles, so I need to be able to use the component/composite dongle that comes with the HD, that doesn't seem to work for the HD60 or 60Pro. It's extremely limiting, since I can't record at 1080p60 with my device.

    • @BluntyTV
      @BluntyTV  8 років тому +1

      +N64xKING A workaround would be to simply use an external device to convert your old Component/composite stuff to HDMI for the HD60 Pro.

    • @N64xKING
      @N64xKING 8 років тому +1

      Well now I feel a bit silly. That solution was way too obvious.

    • @CapsLockKeyon
      @CapsLockKeyon 8 років тому

      +N64xKING I was in the same boat as you, but because I already own the original HD I was already planning on doing the same. In theory it should all work out fine using the passthrough function. Composite into dongle into HD, into HD60 Pro, out to TV (or play directly on computer screen). That way you can still utilize the old hardware instead of buying something new to get this to work.
