If I remember correctly it was before state elections in Punjab and ruling SAD govt objected to how it negatively portrays whole of Punjab as drug addicts. And lost as well but it changed nothing. And the Production house is known to be leftist. @@Ras-al-ghul250 well Punjab is not even at number 1 in drug addiction states in India it’s not even in top5 but still SAD has braught tons and tons of drugs into Punjab under the policy of the govt to weaken the Marshall states firstly they killed an entire generation of fighters then they divided Punjab now they are using drugs but people are still fighting you should live in Punjab and see that youth here is now too much aware there are groups of around 10-15 people in every village catching these drug sellers and to be honest most of the drug users are those who came from outside states you will never see a turban guy smoking cigarettes
Nobody talking about Diljit. He did really a great job in this movie.

Yupp..that was unexpected with Kareena's death!! She didn't deserved to get that ending to her life, moreover she was the only character who had a full positive side since starting!!
Yeah which is why the writers killed that character off. Because the death of a character like hers hurts bad to the viewers. Generating more impact to the story
They had to show that. Because without it, it wouldn't bring so much impact. The portrayal of the death of an innocent person, trying to do something good in the society and showing how that person becomes just another... Collateral Damage, stays inside the viewers' brain.
This is Alia's best performance. She couldn't be more different from the character and she nailed it (at 21!).
And Highway also
Alia's filmography has always been top notched!! She rocked in her 2nd movie highway at the age of 19.....Her all movies are soo good from udta punjab, dear zindagi to raazi , gangubai ,darlings, etc

Kareena's unexpected death scene was so heartbreaking 😢
The devastating ending was necessary, it's a really good movie.

I love Andrew's heart. Like he's so kind, empathetic, and sensitive. I hope I can find a guy like him in my life.
I remember this movie was leaked before its release , probably by someone in the film certification institute.
And the last scene where Alia reaches the beach is actually her realising her dream of going to Goa.
This movie explored everything related to drug addiction - how the youth gets drawn towards drugs, how they first get the taste of it, how you get addicted, how the addiction affects your loved ones, how the regulatory authorities fail to help the afflicted, how the addict struggles to recover from the addiction, how the government fails to even provide decent rehab facilities and how the addicts later get consumed with guilt over what the drugs made them do.
FYI, that scene in the end of Alia's character going for a swim symbolises her cleansing her life off all the past mistakes and attempting to make a fresh start.
Shahid Kapoor's best performance. Period

Trivia : Shahid was the ist actor to be cast in this film ,he then recommended ALIA and KAREENA for their roles . Also DILJIT’S role was offered to AYUSHMANN KHURANA ist , I think he actually shot for a day or two , then DILJIT came on board.
SHAHID AND ALIA won best actors for this, DILJIT won best debut.

One of the most brilliant portrayals of how an accidental drug addict gets out of the addiction and finally finds freedom both externally and internally. Alia Bhatt at her very best!
The quad of Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane, Vikas Bahl and Madhu Mantena's Phantom Films gave some of the most iconic/path breaking films. Its sad the company had to be dissolved.

This movie reminds me of the classic “Requiem for a dream” which itself shows the dark reality of drug abuse, these movies are too real, don’t bs anytime, and just hit as hard as they should, do check out if someone has the appetite for such dark content.

Mmm, I'd say Highway was more like an acting bootcamp of sorts for her, after which she did a few lighter films (small exception being 2 States where she did hold her own where it was required) before coming into her own with Dear Zindagi and Udta Punjab. Interestingly enough, though, those two released the same year as Kapoor & Sons, the film in which she had those few scenes where you could see her slow growth as an actor.
