Even when people argue against outfits, I think "Well, what about colors?" Two or so years on, and we only have a handful of non-default colors, nearly all of which were time locked drops or BP items.
It’s gonna be funny if that “Andy Bogard” in the Pao Pao Cafe 6 background is just the dude from Terry’s World Tour story arc who’s a fan cosplaying as him 😆
The costumes argument is really simple if you just think about dressing up IRL. Yes, there are people who dress themselves only for themselves, but there are tons of people, probably even the majority of people, who dress a certain way to present themselves a certain way to people around them. That's not necessarily meaning that you're dressing to try and please anyone, but more like dressing up to say like "yea, this is who I am, this is me". A mod costume doesn't allow a player to do that in a game, while official DLC that is part of the game would.
I've been studying and frame counting every single new character 60 FPS footage (the whole video) in Street Fighter since 2016, just to get a little headstart on the work for FAT before the character releases. Welcome to the life, Brian.
@duxnihilo okay then why show it as an outfit if they're not gonna add it into the game? That's stupid. Don't show her in that outfit, we can debate if it's lazy or not, if you're not gonna add it. That just fuels the fire for barely any costumes in the game when SFV had OVER 200
@@darknesswave100 You're the one who brought up laziness. They made the outfit for the intro screen, that seems to me to be a pretty normal thing to do. It tells a little story. Adding it as a playable costume instead of coming up with something original strikes me as less diligent since it takes less work. I would feel slightly patronised were they to release that little pyjama pair they threw together instead of a more bespoke outfit.* Edit P.S.: *Unless they charged half-price for it.
I've always hated the "oh just mod it in" argument. How about developers put more stuff in and not have to rely on people to mod stuff into the game? Like don't show Mai in that shorts and t-shirt outfit on the character select screen if you're not gonna add it into the game. That just pisses people off. Edit: Especially when SF5 had OVER 200 COSTUMES
Totally agree. Creating mod tools is hard, unpaid work. I guarantee everyone saying "oh just mod it" would never willing take time out of their weekend to work for free for someone else's benefit. It's great when a few OG's do make these tools of course, but it definitely shouldn't be expected as some new standard.
At the end of season2 SF6 will have 78 costumes, so while it is behind, the comparison to SFV doesn't make it look as bad. SFV also had double the roster of 6 so that adds a ton of costumes, plus the obligatory dozen extra costumes for Chun Li only.
Twitch chat you failed brian you guys couldnt even look for the actually decent gameplay and link him that to look at? The IGN Japan gameplay is probably of the worse footage that was released.
my lil brother saw me watching the gameplay vid and he was like damn you're horny but i just wanna see cool air combos fr also when counting frames on youtube usually you get the hitspark 1 frame after the actual hit connects. did that for ed and pretty much everything was spot on.
@ i rly dont see her being weak but im just hoping she's not over the top strong. JP is a cool character until you see like 20 of them. I dont want mai to get the same perception
The costume thing is another (albeit slightly less impactful) variation of the Stage Bans when The Grid is not allowed. Obviously there is some gameplay benefit to having the training stage with all it's distance markers, but also the same theme, the same grey box of previous SF games got so tiresome after a short while. Costumes have a similar place for me in that (unless it's obviously harming gameplay, like the Plane Stage in SFV having motion sickness or an overly misshapen costume) they break monotony and also allow fans to give money to the game.
@@TheJbrown60 Its a joke he literally says "mai gameplay" at the beginning which sounds like "my gameplay," I was gonna make a similar joke comment but I knew ppl would take it seriously
One thing i didn't see anyone talk about, her model gets visually hurt and beaten up and it carries through rounds and to her victory screen. I wonder if they'll retroactively add that to the rest of the cast
you arent wrong, but people need to stop using low quality sfv releases as the basis for comparisons. one costume in sfv does not equal one costume in sf6, thats just a fact that being said, yea we objectively should have had more costumes, or at the very least colours by now
Capcom are not dumb, I’m sure the avatar costume actually sell well for them to keep doing it. It’s just that 99% of the content we see on UA-cam are actually unrelated.
Fwiw it's certainly possible for modded costumes to be seen by other players who are also modding, by the way. The FFXIV figured this out a long time ago.
Yeah, serious players and professionals take it seriously. If you're just a casual that's okay, too - but a lot of people look at it from a more advanced perspective.
Brian taking excessive amount of time to analyze CPUs fight each other is probably one of my favorite genres of fighting game video lmao
1:31 you're cooking actually, it is genuinely sad to see color 1 and 2 in mirrors on official stuff because the color unlocks are so weird
Even when people argue against outfits, I think "Well, what about colors?" Two or so years on, and we only have a handful of non-default colors, nearly all of which were time locked drops or BP items.
frame counting the jiggly
I really hope they drop like 3 more costumes for each character for season 3
This is confirmed on the way in the contents of the season 2 pass

There's videos of her combo trials in modern and the 2H (probably 2hp) where she hits twice on the ground is confirmed not a low.

The game producer tweeted that the casual character select screen is NOT costume 3 :(
People are saying that but it would be a pretty lazy costume.
@@duxnihilo so? people would buy it. also blanka costume 3 exists so theyre not against lazy costumes
@@duxnihilo A lazy costume would be to just have her be naked and I can tell you that will sell more than the game itself.

There goes my productive start to the day.
I just HAVE to watch Brian break down some new Mai gameplay.
You leave me no choice.
Same, it’s a crippling weakness
Brian, about ryuembu, it is pronounced like "Ree-you-em-boo".
brian's strong American accent when saying anything Japanese is one of my fav parts of his videos lmao esp "kahkehroo"
Ay, u caught me, ill come clean
Is it looking like Mai isn’t completely a charged character? I think it’s only her charged projectile right
She's not a charge character at all, by "charging" her fireball you just hold down the punch button to let it "charge"
Yes, how many frames it jiggles
Twitch chat you failed brian you guys couldnt even look for the actually decent gameplay and link him that to look at? The IGN Japan gameplay is probably of the worse footage that was released.
crazy to blame chat for this when covering sf6 is literally his job
How are you blaming the chat when it's literally his job as a youtuber to get the best footage to show? Thinking is apparently hard for you
I like that her fans change with her color/costume
Breaking news! Mai's comfy outfit will be released! As avatar gear!
How do you count frames with one hand?
I’m watching Mai in SloMo to count frames, I swear! 😅
That casual look looks similar to her fatal fury motion picture look
21:15 Oh no
The Dev put extra effort on the gravity. 🧐

Finally someone that put in words why I don't care about mods
she looks really strong but im still hoping that the things that make her good arent primarily the low forward dr

shes gong to end up pretty weak. Ill bet on that

I don't sub to your channel but I am so glad you shut down that "just mod" comment, like man, that's not the point...
For real people just say mod it in when street fighter 5 had OVER 200 costumes. They can put more in there they just choose not to

Great intro.
What the hell is wrong at Capcom that costumes take this long?
Why is this not on the main channel? Bafflling
One thing i didn't see anyone talk about, her model gets visually hurt and beaten up and it carries through rounds and to her victory screen.
I wonder if they'll retroactively add that to the rest of the cast
That’s always been a thing off local VS. It’s a toggle in the other options menu iirc.
Every one has this, you can switch it on/off in the options. It is *not* available in the online modes however.
I didn’t get into V until Champion Edition. Shit tone of costumes im that game. I’d have thought by this time in 6 we’d have 5-6 costumes. Sad
