Spot on. We're from Navsari (Na-hari) and speak a variant of number 1. Parle did a very 'Surat' accent of the Surati (South Gujarati) dialect. In Navsari we use the same words, shorten our words/sentences, swear and sound really impolite, but we don't sound like there is something wrong with our tongue (which is the case for people from actual Surat)

Parsi accent and Surti accent are same,just add some English words with surti and you will get parsi accent.
Paris's language is most amazing , evan ne sanj nu bhonu aapas ke nai... sojjo jangu dikara, or dokri , evane dhan shak bhonu ma apas....most of parsis are very charming & with light hearted & funny , don't take life much seriously but as like play or lilla & have amazing sense of humor as well , one can find parsis near their atas beheram & near parsi colony , my favourite at parsi cafe is parsi chai & maska ban & their special mava cake & their humours all around with typical graceful charm as well , they follow the master jorthrutha, who believe to be born with laughter only & not with cry. Osho had speak about their Master in depth & details in his book.

I was brought up in Mumbai. Didn't know about the various accents till my move to Africa. Heard two very elder Patel ladies talking and I swear, I did not understand a word they were saying.
Bombay Gujarati accent is far too different from accent of any region of Gujarat.

@@bhaktipatrawala4582 That's because we mix up multiple languages. Also, we Bombayite speak text book style Gujarati while speaking to fellow Gujaratis here in Bombay. And at home, with family we speak in regional dialect like Kathiyawadi, Mehshani, Palanpuri or Surti.
Some Gujarati language speaker also speak Kutchi, which is different language altogether and not a dialect.

Excellent job with the dialects and speaking styles! We should appreciate this all the more because he is a British guy. Being aware of all these different accents and being able to imitate them is outstanding. Even Gujaratis who grow up in Mumbai are often unaware that there are different dialects of Gujarati that differ so much. For a British born person it is really creditable. It does explain why his British-gujju and American-gujju accents are so good :-). If his actual name is Parle, like the historic Parle G biscuits, that would be mind blowing too.

HAHAHAHA all those accents were so relatable. But since I have always lived in Bombay I have a vert straight forward Gujarati tone with a very urbanized accent. Also, loved how you included those 4 endangered accents in the end hahaha I understood a bit.
You forgot charotari gujarati...for example in charotari gujarati they say "hedo" for word "chalo"

I grew up with the proper Gujurati from Bombay. Didn’t know any other accents until I moved to America. Now I can relate to all!

But why should we argue. Enjoy yourself with whatever style you speak. But speak Gujarati with your next generation..Gujarati is only language in India which is so flexible to accept words from other languages. Because Gujjus are travellers. You know how we wish on new year? ' સાલ મુબારક ".... And these both words are not Gujarati..!

@@travelwithsounak we arent exposed to indians who speak hindi much, majority here is gujju so we arent fluent in hindi, we tend to mix gujju and hindi😂😂😂

The only Shuddh thing about me though is that I never, EVER, call myself a 'gujj-'. I am Gujarati and super strict about that lol. Ever since that SRK film where they sang that rubbish song about 'Gee You Jay Jay You' and made it look like we can't do anything (I stopped watching at that point and never picked it back up), my Asian friends used to take the mick out of me - so when friends ask me now, 'Are you gujji?' I say, "No, I am Gu-ja-ra-ti." That and my name are the only things about which I'm so pedantic. 😄
I think I'm from Surat, pan khabar nathi ame kya na kevai - we say things like 'kya thi aivi' rather than 'kiya thi avi'. Your American and British were great! "Pot ne bakudi ma pile up kari ne Oyster kevi reete vaparso?! Hu drive karidais tamne!" 😂😂😂

Every new accent evolves through the combination of these accents.

Therefore the 4 basic identities are a far too blocky, tick boxish and simplistic way of looking at Gujarati dialects around the world...alsoooo edit. I'm not a professional linguist or anthropologist, but a fool on the internet lol
JIRALD MACWAN incorrect sir! Most linguists will tell you that in any language you have numerous accents that are formed by geography, profession, socio-economics and even climate! Typically an accent will change every 20-30 miles (30-45 km) and Gujarati is no exception

Last one rather more applicable to Ahmedabad. Usually GJ2 portions are mixed in here but in reality Amdavadi Accent is almost no accent and its Shuddh Gujarati. Even Baroda can be included havent heard extreme change over there too

This is AMAZING! more accents than I’ve heard! I think :) although in the accent we speak in our extended family etc. We don’t speak with “SU”but “HU”. Instead of “Shaak” we say “Haak” If that makes any sense! Any one here the same?

You will be amazed knowing that there are sub accents also there, that is community accents like Patel , darbar, gadhvi, rabari,vaniya and so much more. But one should NOT mimic cast accents, as someone's heart may hurt. So its better not to attempt. Respect for all,. You have an amazing talent. Haacho bhuraa hacho... Ha moj haa...
No wonder I felt i didnt understand some Gujaratis on TV. I thought there were some accents in Guj but then entire words and pronunciations are different from Normal saral Guj to nagri, villages, towns and districts.

South African Guji is a weird one. The closest is 4 with emphasis on parts of the word but it's not exactly that. It's quite informal and there are no filler words.

I actually met a girl from Karachi a couple of years ago in Australia. Her family spoke Gujarati internally because of her grandparents. I was surprised to know that there is a little Gujarati speaking cluster alive in Pakistan, although it is a dying language there. The girl I spoke to, wasn't fluent in her Gujarati, but it sounded rough/original/old school Gujarati - the kind you get to hear in the rural Kathiyawad even today.
