This corridor is for smaller cargoes. Suez Canal cargo rates are four times higher per tonne on a small ship compared to a large as there are a fixed number of ships that can transit the canal per day. The transit takes two days despite being just 160 km. Ships transit in convoys at a fixed speed and stop over night. 3 days are probably lost to the transit in good circumstances. Obviously, cargo to Egypt would not use the canal. We can say the Semitic countries od West Asia don't want to be beholden to Egypt for the transit of good. However, the rail line capacity is tiny compared to the can capacity.

Economically not viable, because for India taking Red sea route is the cheapest one. But for US and the west if there is a blockade of strait of Bab el Mandeb take place , they can use it as an alternative route for trade. That's why.
