During this video I will be reviewing the Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6 ED VR DX

I apreciate the work you put into making this video but you should be reviewing the lens not theaching people what a lens hood/lens cap looks like, how to put a lens on the camera, or how to change the apperture on a dslr!

Helps protect against flaring and can be used as general protection if you are hiking or something along those lines. I know a lens hood has saved me a few times from banging up my front element.
Thanks, and ya your right I should do a completely different video showing only how this lens handles auto-focusing.
one of the primary purposes of the lens hood is to help reduce lens flare, which is caused by extra light entering the lens from a skewed angle. it helps direct from which direction light enters your lens. it depends what kind of photography you're planning on doing, in terms of which lens you should start with. what do you plan on mostly shooting?
Hello, thank you for coming back to me. that's it? omg I thought it has to do with focusing or something lol. I'm basically gonna use it in shooting videos, plus family images, but most focusing on doing videos, I wanna do some documentaries, short film etc.. my camera is the D5200 with the kit lens, that's why I thought of the 55-200 it's good along with the kit lens. thank you (:
Yeah, for track side use :) need it to have quick shutter and quality zoom :) seems perfect!
The one I had came with the camera, but I have seen some for cameras like the D3200 like stick onto it via some kind of adhesive. I've never used one my self but I've heard great things about them, it definitely helps the screen from breaking from say a corner or rock.
I would suggest to get this lens but buy it used in very good condition, should run about $150. You'll either like it or hate it and if you resell, you pretty much get your money back with little loss.
It's also how much light the lens takes in and how sharp the lens is and your depth of field. So how would it not matter in sports?
@rduckie09 Yes it does. It's a fairly decent sized hood too.

@airbus91 Hey airbus91. For some while I didn't know how this lens handled with planes. But after the Air Show I went to I realized that this lens is very sharp and handles great with planes even fast planes like an F-16 going Mach 1! So yes this lens would be good for plane spotting.

@CORYSPHOTOS Naah its not too bad. As long as you don't use the viewfinder then your battery will last a very long time. I used it with a D3100, which has a quite small battery and I made it last something like 400 to 600 pictures with the VR on constantly.

I own a D3100. I'm considering this lens as well as the 300mm version. Do you think the 300mm is overkill for my little camera? I only plan to use it for my daughters graduation.
The manual focus ring is to small , it's hard to grip , the plastic Mount is also questioned by me . On my d300 it takes sharp images at all focal lengths

how much further can you zoom with a 70-300 than with a 55-200? i'm considering two lenses right now. the Nikon AF VR 55-200mm and the tamron AF 70-300mm
sorry for just a stupid question, but what is the real use of the lens hood? and do you think I should start with this lens, obviously I know nothing about lenses, or start off with the 18-55 kit lens? thanks :-)
What is this sort of lens used for? Would it be for close ups or landscape?, which sort of lens would you use for these types of shots? I got a d3100 with a 18 - 55mm lens. Thanks
