im not a fan of these because they have their rating fixed to gain no points per win, so they stay in low elo for so much longer than they should. and tbh its harder to learn watching this rating range where most the wins are gonna be 1 move blunders
Haha, the Jaws-like noises during the final mate. 😂 Again, appreciate taking the lower rated opponents seriously, has been really eye-opening how such simple, logical moves in a calm manner cause so many opponents to fall apart. I need to be more patient with my chess.
Started playing chess 3 years ago. I’m now 1300 playing a few games per month for fun. And taking my time with calculating moves was my biggest struggle. But once I overcame that I saw my rating increase a few hundred points.
You sir are an emotionless assassin, just calmly lopping heads off & remorselessly, swiftly moving on to another unsuspecting victim. Not even a celebratory sip of cider, it's not the taste of victory you enjoy - it's the merciless lopping of heads. This series is a bloodbath :)
These 6 and 700's were playing hard. Those first 2 games they really hung tough. You could make these 2 hours long and we would savor every moment so don't think you have to keep them short. The types of us who watch these videos aren't wasting our time on mindless short videos.
I think many 700elo would have the skills to be higher rated, but probably play too fast in most games, blundering and finishing with most of their time untouched. But then because Eric is playing slow, they get into a mindset of playing slower as well, and end up playing way above their rating thanks to that.
We cant get enough of this please, im looking for another one of those 12 hour videos... or at least an hour. I learn so much from you.. and im rated 650 so to see you play these games are super helpfull... i watched all of the first 6 episodes in one sitting yesterday and then was super happy to see another one today. Incredible content, Eric! I know when I click on one of these videos I’m not going to regret the 40ish minutes. Thanks for being my #1 comfort content creator 🥹
I never knew there could be a potentially better/as good series as ChessBrah's Building Habits, but here we are. Bravo to you Mr Rosen. I hope to one day meet you. By the way, we have the same birthday, exactly, per your Wiki Page. Happy 31.
One of the most interesting things to me is, that you are almost always down on time in this episode. Makes me think that one of the most important skills as you progress is to know, when to take time and think and when to play fast.
Oh no my German! Eric, your pronounciation of Zwischenzug is wonderful - keep it going! :) Approved by a German afficionada of this channel :). Best series ever! Already looking forward to the next episode!
Every time I have an opportunity to watch I learn key moves, particularly for a new guy challenged by those early, aggressive let's end the game early attacks. I'm learning to stop and turn them around watching these speedruns. Eric you are the Man!!! Thank you!!!
God mad respect to some of the games where the opponents just played soundly and very well IMO against an IM. But the opponents who screw around in the beginning, I'm glad you play the "no mercy" style haha. Great video!
Thanks for your videos, Eric. I really like your style. And your editing is also very nice, especially the "special effects" in the last game. Oh, and your pronunciation of "Zugzwang" is completely fine :)
Zwischenzug/intermezzo is different than zugzwang. The former means ''in between move'', while the latter is something like ''out of moves'', suggesting a position in which passing the turn would be preferable because playing any move would disrupt the defence and result in a significant disadvantage. It frequently occurs in endgames, especially those involving only king/pawns and triangulation.
@@DrLogii I mean, as a german or someone who can speak german, shouldn't you know their meaning? And tell apart the two words? Even I can tell it was zwischenzug and not zugzwang despite knowing nothing about German.
Whether or not Eric's opponents are low or high elo rated players the principles of chess he teaches always apply. With low rated opponents tactics are numerous and it's so much fun to see Eric do his thing
The speedrun series is just Gold for someone like me who has been struggling trying to learn Chess on his own in his 40's... Thank you and please Keep up the great work you are doing with your channel!
I really reall like how you Mr. Rosen are able to explain things in such a calm and clear way. Also you gave away a lot of funny moments like when you walk you opponent in a stalemate or hang a poisoned queen. Great Channel! Chess is great!
I love this series. Your counter attacks, especially in the last game here, are Morphy like, in that you keep adding new pieces to the fray! Development first and foremost
Hi Eric! I'm rewatching the series after I stopped playing like 6-7 months back. Just wanna tell you that this series helped me to break 1000 at that point and at 38:11 jaws bgm was a genius idea 😂❤
This is episode has a nice amount of time. I understand those who are dedicated to chess vote for a longer episode. Not convinced the same logic applies to novice/beginner players like me. There is another chess channel that is doing a speed run which i stopped viewing because the uploads became longer than an hour with multiple uploads a week. I enjoy your channel for its educational/tutorial/coaching/sportsmanship content and I enjoy your narration which also clicks the entertainment button. Thanks for sharing.
Great video, it's actually pretty interesting to see such tactics combined with under 1000 elo tactics. Btw, 40 min is a pretty good size for a video for me!
Heyy, I love your content so much! You are the reason I play ponziani as my main opening. Just wanted to point out that there was a mate in 2 at 35:27, if you took with the queen (highlighting this for the beginners). I'm sure it was just because you had been recording for a while. Genuinely LOVE your content.
Mate in 2? What about not moving the king on F1 and instead to block the check on E2 by any of 3 defenders: queen (the better option), bishop or knight? So, no mate in 2.
So here is a german guy doing german stuff (correcting people): both "z" in Zwischenzug are sharp and pronounced like a "tz" or "ts". Apart from that you said it right. I really like the speedrun. It is so instructive!
I’m learning so much watching this serie, cause’ we do see a lots of different opening and it’s really nice to see you beating everyones in many different ways, with so much confident and CALM while teaching us every moove possible, you are an amazing chess/coach player i love the serie !!!!! Love that we've seen 4 games in this episode. While Eric is facing lower rated opponents, I think 3-4 games per episode is a good measure, keeping it in the range of 40-45ish minutes.
I just began and playing miserably... dropping to 262. Yes... 262. Then I watched your first 5 speedrun episodes a couple of times each. Next game was with a 762 player (an accident to play someone so high... settings weren't correct). Voila! It wasn't close to being as clean as your play (quite messy, actually), but I won with checkmate. I instantly went up to 457. Just luck? Not totally. I stuck to fundamentals, remembered what you said, nothing fancy, I'm a beginner, after all, and, eventually, my opponent blundered... twice. Thank you.
Just give them a taste of their own medicine. Don't rush, develop your pieces and slowly improve your position until they make a mistake. They will eventually at this level, just be the one who makes less mistakes :)
Just seen this series, can’t wait to watch them all. Could you occasionally play b3 as white as I play this and find there are much fewer resources on this
"This is what we call superfluous knights, when they defend each other." Classic stuff there from Grand International Master Eric Finegold. No, wait...I meant GIM Ben Rosen. Wait, wait...I'm confused... 😂 Finegold is the only other person I've ever heard use the term "superfluous knights," because they're taking squares away from each other. Hey Eric, at what rating will you start playing a ponziani in the speedrun? I recently went on a deep dive in your content on the opening and it quickly became a favorite of mine to play. My first game playing it I destroyed my opponent and played near perfect chess.
A polite suggestion: this series doesn't exactly have much to do with speed (in relation to the word "speed run") maybe a more accurate term could be "master's climb" or "chess master class"? I am certainly loving this series and hope it continues into perpetuity!
Hey Eric, at 33:21 in the video, i was looking at the line you were calculating (im a weak player, only 500 rated). Wouldn't it be bad for black if white's F pawn were to take, because if white were to castle, the rook would have an open file on the F file ? Or am I wrong in this case ? Thank you !
The exchange on e3 does give white some positional benefits with a stronger pawn center and the half-open f-file. However, I still went for that line because of the tactics. Bxe3 fxe3 Ng4, it wasn't clear how white can save both the undefended knight on g5 and pawn on e3. This was a nice example of when the tactics outweigh the positional drawbacks of a move.
He explains later that you don’t necessarily even want to go for stuff like this when the king is so exposed because that knight, helping to attack the king, could easily be worth more than the rook on f8. That being said, Ne6 would have been winning, but so is almost anything when your opponent moves their king into huge danger for no reason
Hi Eric! Thanks for all the contents. Just one thing: you might want to consider adding the option of never playing with players lower rated more than 15 elo points. I think in this way the speedrun would get more interesting sooner
