I vote for each episode to be progressively longer, resulting in a final episode of 10 hours
The length should grow exponentially. Each episode should be 2% longer than the previous one
@@janossowski1490 In every episode, Eric should eat double the amount of grains of rice than in the previous one
oh god no, not again. You are going to make the sub even dumber than it is right now@@AlexDings
Seconded
Agreed, I watch these twice, once to fall asleep, once for actual entertainment.
This is by far, and by a large margin, my favorite chess series at the moment. Very very well done
im not a fan of these because they have their rating fixed to gain no points per win, so they stay in low elo for so much longer than they should. and tbh its harder to learn watching this rating range where most the wins are gonna be 1 move blunders
@@jeffypwnzuyeah it's episode 8 and he's still facing
@@utm0st yeah, its also called a speedrun but these "speedruns" always have like 400 episodes lol
This is a great series for everyone eventually. With some patience your level will be met.
@@Spiethstar plus, when he does get to your level, there will be more games at it, due to the rating speed
Haha, the Jaws-like noises during the final mate. 😂
Again, appreciate taking the lower rated opponents seriously, has been really eye-opening how such simple, logical moves in a calm manner cause so many opponents to fall apart.
I need to be more patient with my chess.
I had to pause it go back, I thought it was my neighbour being weird 😅
Started playing chess 3 years ago. I’m now 1300 playing a few games per month for fun. And taking my time with calculating moves was my biggest struggle. But once I overcame that I saw my rating increase a few hundred points.
that made me jump!
Even the black knights suddenly look like shark fins...
that threw me off !
My Wednesday night sorted... learning how I'm not that good at chess, and the soothing sound of Eric to fall asleep to..
My exact thought the second I saw it posted 😂
I actually do find the videos in this series quite relaxing, and I often watch before bed if I'm not reading. Oh no, my dream!
Dude the jaws music I thought something was making that sound in my house lmao
lol yeah, I thought I was imagining things for a moment
Awesome 😂😂😂
Welcome to another episode of "Spoiled for Choice"
I like his calm demeanor and "no mercy" approach. Way to go Eric. Love your episodes.
That scholar's mate refutation was so nice
As a new player seeing this into it smkes me feel I could actually climb lol
These 6 and 700's were playing hard. Those first 2 games they really hung tough. You could make these 2 hours long and we would savor every moment so don't think you have to keep them short. The types of us who watch these videos aren't wasting our time on mindless short videos.
I think many 700elo would have the skills to be higher rated, but probably play too fast in most games, blundering and finishing with most of their time untouched. But then because Eric is playing slow, they get into a mindset of playing slower as well, and end up playing way above their rating thanks to that.
This makes perfect sense. @@andeolevain
I could watch Eric play for hours. More than happy to see longer episodes!
One thing I'm learning from this series is the value of giving each move more thought. "Waste time", but "win game".
The Davudd70 game was a real eye opener. Also, Eric’s commenting is excellent. Thanks.
I’m enjoying the Speedrun and hearing Eric’s thought processes. You can never have too many speed runs.
Eric, you're the Bob Ross of chess. Legend.
😂 The juxtaposition of Jaws theme and Eric's calm, gentle voice
Love the Jaws edit. Gave me a good chuckle.
You sir are an emotionless assassin, just calmly lopping heads off & remorselessly, swiftly moving on to another unsuspecting victim. Not even a celebratory sip of cider, it's not the taste of victory you enjoy - it's the merciless lopping of heads. This series is a bloodbath :)
Commenting to boost impressions. Love this series!
We cant get enough of this please, im looking for another one of those 12 hour videos... or at least an hour. I learn so much from you.. and im rated 650 so to see you play these games are super helpfull... i watched all of the first 6 episodes in one sitting yesterday and then was super happy to see another one today. Give us more more more
Incredible content, Eric! I know when I click on one of these videos I’m not going to regret the 40ish minutes. Thanks for being my #1 comfort content creator 🥹
One of the most interesting things to me is, that you are almost always down on time in this episode. Makes me think that one of the most important skills as you progress is to know, when to take time and think and when to play fast.
These are some of the best chess videos on UA-cam. You're very clear and always appreciate the extra dry humor
I never knew there could be a potentially better/as good series as ChessBrah's Building Habits, but here we are. Bravo to you Mr Rosen. I hope to one day meet you. By the way, we have the same birthday, exactly, per your Wiki Page. Happy 31.
Eric's smooth sailing at the board makes his wins easy breezy. Now I want to see tougher opponents.
I like the dramatic music on the last one.
Lovely series, can't wait for more episodes
Oh no my German! Eric, your pronounciation of Zwischenzug is wonderful - keep it going! :) Approved by a German afficionada of this channel :). Best series ever! Already looking forward to the next episode!
Can’t get enough of these speed runs
Thanks a lot for publishing this series. I am getting better thanks to it, improving my blitz rating above 700. 🙏
Absolutely brilliant, I think the most instructive speedrun so far
I'm not gonna lie, that Jaws-like music gave me some chills... 🤣
God mad respect to some of the games where the opponents just played soundly and very well IMO against an IM. But the opponents who screw around in the beginning, I'm glad you play the "no mercy" style haha. Great video!
Loving the informative content and explanations in these speedruns! Excited for this episode too
Great series! I really enjoy both your instructive insight and your mildly amused demeanor
I Love the move by move explanation. This is the best content. Amazing!
I have a hard time against players like the first opponent who go for many moves building up passive defense.
Yeah same. I find the game stands still until i eventually make a mistake lol
@williammeyrick5273 tried making small improving moves and slowly target spots around your opponents king
Just give them a taste of their own medicine. Don't rush, develop your pieces and slowly improve your position until they make a mistake. They will eventually at this level, just be the one who makes less mistakes :)
Thanks for this series!! Enjoying a lot 😊
37:41 POV: you're stuck in the ocean and the sharks are ready to have a nice meal
I’m learning so much watching this serie, cause’ we do see a lots of different opening and it’s really nice to see you beating everyones in many different ways, with so much confident and CALM while teaching us every moove possible, you are an amazing chess/coach player i love the serie !!!!! Keep doing watchu do sir AMAZING 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼🥰
This was brutal.
I love it 😂
well, that looks easy. Thank you @Eric for talking through all your decisions. This is very helpful.
Loving this series! I hope that as you climb in rating we'll get a some deeper dives into the opening theory.
Whether or not Eric's opponents are low or high elo rated players the principles of chess he teaches always apply. With low rated opponents tactics are numerous and it's so much fun to see Eric do his thing
Thanks for your videos, Eric. I really like your style. And your editing is also very nice, especially the "special effects" in the last game.
Oh, and your pronunciation of "Zugzwang" is completely fine :)
Zwischenzug/intermezzo is different than zugzwang. The former means ''in between move'', while the latter is something like ''out of moves'', suggesting a position in which passing the turn would be preferable because playing any move would disrupt the defence and result in a significant disadvantage. It frequently occurs in endgames, especially those involving only king/pawns and triangulation.
@@RK-qi4tv Well, that's possible. But I'm just talking about his pronunciation of the German words he's using, not about the context they're used in.
@@DrLogii I mean, as a german or someone who can speak german, shouldn't you know their meaning? And tell apart the two words? Even I can tell it was zwischenzug and not zugzwang despite knowing nothing about German.
@@RK-qi4tv Yes, I can. But that's not what I wanted to say. I was just referring to the way he pronounces the words.
The speedrun series is just Gold for someone like me who has been struggling trying to learn Chess on his own in his 40's... Thank you and please Keep up the great work you are doing with your channel!
thanks eric your best and most instructive series so far ;) keep it up learning a lot hear ;)
For the player at beginner or elementary level, Eric's current speedrun series is about as good as it gets. Highly recommended!
Love this series Eric!
excellent teaching commentary. thanks
I really reall like how you Mr. Rosen are able to explain things in such a calm and clear way.
Also you gave away a lot of funny moments like when you walk you opponent in a stalemate or hang a poisoned queen.
Great Channel!
Chess is great!
No way that first opponent was actually 700
For sure, 700s basically never hold pawn tension like there is at 3:00
My thoughts exactly.
My experience is they see that a piece can be taken and they take it. It wasn't until I reached like 1100+ they started considering other moves. They are also very queen focused and will hang checkmates to save their queen or they'll hang checkmate to capture my queen lol. Though who knows. Maybe those few actually did some research. Maybe they understand that taking isn't always the best, they studied some principles, but they don't have the gameplay experience yet so they fall to other things. I was weak to end games so my rank stayed low until I worked on that.
Love this series man! Keep it up!
Like the series. I really like how you decide which move is best between all the good moves.
great! keep running! we have a lot to learn from it
Thank you for doing this. I've really learned a lot and have started to play more chess.
I love this series so much
I'm 1400 and really loving how you tune in to the rating range you're playing
Love the ominous base brass signifying the end is near.
Yes! Love this series!
Thank you for the instructive games
The changing photos is very funny.
What a calm teacher you are Eric
love love love this series
Usually forgot the tips I picked up from your videos. Great stuff as always.
With all the chess content I absorb, I should be a 2000 rated player by now, but im comfortable in my 700 rated blunder kingdom
@@slowlearner46 Name checks out
Very instructive videos, keep it up!
I love this series. Your counter attacks, especially in the last game here, are Morphy like, in that you keep adding new pieces to the fray! Development first and foremost
lmao the "Jaws" shark attack cellos at the end of the last game
I loved the jaw music. I was looking around wonderinf where it was coming from for a couple of seconds :)
Great video, it's actually pretty interesting to see such tactics combined with under 1000 elo tactics. Btw, 40 min is a pretty good size for a video for me!
"This is what we call superfluous knights, when they defend each other."
Classic stuff there from Grand International Master Eric Finegold.
No, wait...I meant GIM Ben Rosen.
Wait, wait...I'm confused... 😂
Finegold is the only other person I've ever heard use the term "superfluous knights," because they're taking squares away from each other.
I absolutely love that reference.
It kinda made my day.
This is episode has a nice amount of time. I understand those who are dedicated to chess vote for a longer episode. Not convinced the same logic applies to novice/beginner players like me. There is another chess channel that is doing a speed run which i stopped viewing because the uploads became longer than an hour with multiple uploads a week. I enjoy your channel for its educational/tutorial/coaching/sportsmanship content and I enjoy your narration which also clicks the entertainment button. Thanks for sharing.
So here is a german guy doing german stuff (correcting people): both "z" in Zwischenzug are sharp and pronounced like a "tz" or "ts". Apart from that you said it right.
I really like the speedrun. It is so instructive!
"german" should be "German" ... 😂
I just began and playing miserably... dropping to 262. Yes... 262. Then I watched your first 5 speedrun episodes a couple of times each. Next game was with a 762 player (an accident to play someone so high... settings weren't correct). Voila! It wasn't close to being as clean as your play (quite messy, actually), but I won with checkmate. I instantly went up to 457. Just luck? Not totally. I stuck to fundamentals, remembered what you said, nothing fancy, I'm a beginner, after all, and, eventually, my opponent blundered... twice. Thank you.
YOU GOTTA DO THE JAWS MUSIC ANYTIME A MATE IS COMMING... That was awesome!!
I’ve been waiting on this!!
cant wait for the next episode thanx
Greetings from England Eric.😊
@@COSLMM R Sole.
Great episode
I am learning so much from you!
Best series!
Love the videos Eric😊
I love this series so far!
Longer episodes !!
Please more more more...my fav conzept for chess Videos
German here.
You're pronunciation of Zwischenzug is close enough. Good job, Herr Rosen!
FINALLY someone pronounces the Pirc defence correctly :)
Just seen this series, can’t wait to watch them all. Could you occasionally play b3 as white as I play this and find there are much fewer resources on this
great games and commentary.
That third game! Love it! 😂
3:50 great advice
Great series. Please keep it going. I’m rated about 1350 and I’m still learning things here.
I just thought That i Would love to watch Eric before going to bed. 2 minutes ago, new Eric video 🥺🥰
I think this episode was the perfect length!
I love double checkmates. I also love chess art. thanks so much
Love that we've seen 4 games in this episode. While Eric is facing lower rated opponents, I think 3-4 games per episode is a good measure, keeping it in the range of 40-45ish minutes.
Thanks so much. I am a total beginner but want to learn. Your videos are so helpful. Cheers!
this series is going to be the best chess series... ❤❤❤❤
For the first time I'm seeing Eric's big eyes on the thumbnail 😂😂😂😂😂
Heyy, I love your content so much! You are the reason I play ponziani as my main opening. Just wanted to point out that there was a mate in 2 at 35:27, if you took with the queen (highlighting this for the beginners). I'm sure it was just because you had been recording for a while. Genuinely LOVE your content.
Mate in 2? What about not moving the king on F1 and instead to block the check on E2 by any of 3 defenders: queen (the better option), bishop or knight? So, no mate in 2.
great show
