    This was so helpful. I always love your videos but really appreciate the hourglass block info and the border pressing cheat was genius! Sometimes I set it aside just because I'm not in the mood to press the entire border before putting on the next one. Why didn't I think of this?! Thanks for keeping us inspired Tammie! Your work is so lovely and OMG that Potting Shed quilt... ❤

    I’m so excited to be on the home stretch of Pressed Flowers. I ordered the fabric kit so I received the finishing instructions ahead of time…I just couldn’t help it, I had to start putting the blocks together. 😌 it’s sooo cute! One more block and the final row will be completed. I did decide to add an extra border though. Very fun sew along…really enjoyed it.

    I agree, Tammie that it is easier to make the hour glass blocks as you did in the Pressed Flowers block. Nice tip❣️And thank you for the tip of what seams need to be pressed and what ones aren't necessary when adding borders. That totally makes sense and will be such a time saver! Thanks for sharing the name of the wide backing fabric you used on the Potting Shed quilt. I REALLY like it! I also like the mini fountain pantograph as well.
    As always, the pantographs you used on the beautiful customer quilts are stunning.

    I love your quilt!!! I do my hourglass blocks same way you do. I splurged last week and bought the Olisio mini M3Pro iron and I love it! It has a headlight on it! It’s going to save quite a bit of time getting up and down, going across the room, waiting for iron to heat up etc. Oh that Christmas quilt and the vintage ornament quilting you did! Wow! Now I want to do another Christmas quilt. Could you tell me the book for the comet quilt? I’m not seeing it.

    Do you press all your seams open on a quilt top? Does that help with long arming?

    • @tammieearnest
      @tammieearnest  3 місяці тому +1

      Not always. If I have a lot of seams in a block, I tend to press them open so that they can be fitted with adjoining blocks easily and I don't have to stop and figure out which way to press. With borders, if it's a strip of fabric I tend to press to one side but if it's a pieced border I tend to press open because I think it lies flatter. But I don't have any hard and fast rules. This is a great question though. I will take pictures of the seams on the back of the Meadowlark quilt and talk about them next week. Thanks for the question.

    Hey there Tammie, love your videos! I think you background music is so very relaxing and comforting! I have a story and a question. I recently mailed a mini wall quilt or very small wall ( like 22” x 26”) hanging quilt to a long arming company that is extremely well known (I won’t name them) in the quilting industry fabric and retreat center business.
    After they got it in the mail, they called me and said they had a minimum charge for small quilts, which was $60 by the time I paid shipping it both ways and paid their state taxes & it was back in my hands it was over $100 to quilt a tiny wall hanging quilt. 22x26=572”
    I had called and talk to them before I choose them to quilt it and before I shipped it, based on the prices we had discussed on the phone, and nothing was said about a “minimum charge “, they told me I could choose between two cents, three cents and four cents and inch, I choose $.03 and noted that inside the shipping box and I’d sent the general idea of what I wanted it quilted like as far as a designer pattern went. Which is what I did.
    I really feel like they should’ve told me they had a minimum fee instead of telling me I could choose two cents three cents or four cents an inch. Ordinarily from my local Quilters that would’ve cost me $35-$40 and instead I paid over $100 by the time it was done, is this a normal thing not telling folks about minimum charges and only telling about per inch charges???
    That’s my question I realize everybody has to have a minimum fee for loading their machine and doing the work and then taking it off again but usually it’s been my experience from my local friends that they just wait till I have several small items and load them all at once. Can you give me some insight on this?
    I would appreciate it thank you by the way I won’t be doing any business with them in the future.

    • @tammieearnest
      @tammieearnest  3 місяці тому

      I’m sorry for your experience but I don’t believe it was an intentional misconception. When I am talking with clients, I do forget to tell them things at times. Not on purpose, of course.
      Every longarmer I know has a minimum charge. That is pretty standard practice among businesses. The first page of my order form contains my pricing and my minimum charge, I hope people read that, but I don’t know if they do. Again, I am sorry that you were caught off guard by the price but I don’t feel that they were being malicious.

    Hello - I found your quilt videos via your flosstubes (both are great!) I've been wondering - does the Fat Quarter Shop send you those Sew Sampler boxes in exchange for advertising or do you buy them yourself? I've been skipping those sections because I haven't been able to tell (and also because I don't usually watch 10 minute commercials.) Most flosstubers (and knitting podcasters) are careful to say when they have received something as a gift, but I don't know what the norm is for the quilting community. Thanks for the rest of your videos - I've been learning so much about quilting from them! I also watch you when I need someone soothing to listen to - your voice and the cadence of your sentences has a really calming effect on me!

    • @tammieearnest
      @tammieearnest  3 місяці тому

      Thanks for the question. I purchase the Sew Sampler Boxes myself. I have never (at least to this point in time) ever received any promotional items from the Fat Quarter Shop. I am simply sharing with you my thoughts of the items just as I do if I purchase products for my other quilts. I do include affiliate links in the description of the videos which means that I earn a small commission from the sale at no additional cost to you, if you use that link. However, you are free to search for the item yourself on the Fat Quarter Shop website, or your favorite quilt store, without the affiliate link. Hope that helps.

    • @anonygrits
      @anonygrits 3 місяці тому

      @@tammieearnest Yes, thanks for your reply! I noticed the affiliate links that are clearly marked, and I'm happy to use them, but it might be worth noting (somehow - not sure the best way) that you buy those sampler boxes yourself because FQS does a lot of advertising through other flosstubers/quilty-tubers. I noticed that you have a new video up & will be watching that today!

    I enjoy your videos very much and appreciate you taking the time to share …. however, I can’t be the only person who actually LIKES loose and floppy can I? I love looking at traditional quilts but I wouldn’t ever use one myself. They are too thick and I don’t find them comfortable or comforting.
    It grates on my nerves every time you emphasize using batting with minky because it’s a preference that may be shared by the majority … but it definitely isn’t universal and sounds elitist when you mention it so often.

    • @tammieearnest
      @tammieearnest  3 місяці тому

      And that is the great thing about quilting! We each have our own likes and dislikes. My preference is to stitch with batting and Minky together, but you are free to do whatever you like. I'm only sharing what I like. I respect your choice. Happy quilting!
