    Thanks for sharing this. We tow with a 2010 Infiniti QX56 (basically the fancy Armada). We towed a 25ft (total length) trailer for a couple of years with no issue at all. Towed from Missouri to Oregon and back. Had really high winds in Wyoming and Montana and never had an issue. Use common sense and slow down when things get sketchy. We are now towing a 30ft (total length) and have had no issues. I think it makes a HUGE difference to have the weight distribution hitch setup right. It really keeps the tow vehicle and trailer coupled together nicely. Setting up that hitch with the vehicle off is a really smart suggestion. The air bags work so well on these that it can cover up a poorly setup weight distribution hitch. We checked all of our axle weights at the CAT scales and were within spec on all of them. It helps that the tow vehicle was almost 6,000 pounds and the weight on the trailer axles was also around 6,000 pounds. It keeps the trailer from whipping a lighter tow vehicle. Happy Towing.

    Thank you! I own a 2010 Nissan Armada and have loved towing with it as well. We went the rental route for 2 years before purchasing a 31' Bunkhouse. We're still hesitant the Armada is capable. Only because of how short it is compared to the trailer. But we're going to try out now that we've seen your video. I know it's capable of around 9,000 lbs. And I agree, the self- leveling air ride suspension is awesome.

    Dont just go off the tow rating, look up a video on here about towing/payload for travel trailers and all the numbers you need to run. The guy made a free spreadsheet that will basically tell if if its go or no. I think that trailer it too long for the armada, wind will be a killer.

    • @boobylinks
      @boobylinks 2 роки тому +1

      About that wind. Bad cross winds (like driving through Nebraska with 30mph side gusts) will throw those tow capacity chart's out the window. Weight distribution bars are a must. Driving out past the wind shadow of road hillside cuts can give you a white knuckle ride in a hurry. It's just as bad on 2 lane highways with oncoming semi's. I'm not saying don't do it with an Armada. Just bear that wind events can get hectic a hurry, and it's best to pull over into rest stops for a needed break or find a campground to get out day or two out of a high wind event.

    • @Slinky-jf8oo
      @Slinky-jf8oo 2 роки тому

      @@boobylinks i have to agree. I towed our camper from indiana to tennessee, and wind was a huge pain! And even the people passing me going the same direction! We did not have a sway bar (was our first time taking it out) and it will be what we buy next. I believe it is a must! But the truck pulled it with ease and stopping was fine, but i cannot stress enough about a sway bar hitch.

    Me and my wife tow a jayco Jay flight 264 bhw no slide out. With a 2011 Armada platinum and I didn't use the sway bars just straight hitched. From Houston, TX to Missouri. No problems and took it through a storm on the way home. Granted the 2011 Armada has a 9100lb towing cap in 2wd with self leveling air suspension. Yet many other RVer's couldn't believe the 2011 could haul it.

    We have a 2017 armada sl and a 2019 jayco 224bh. We tow with weight distribution, sway bar and it pulls just fine. We have towed threw Tennessee, Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin. All I can say is be careful in the wind pulling anything longer than what we have. Oh yea let's not forget about the sway from semi trucks passing. Even though we have a sway bar I still grip the steering wheel a bit tighter when a semi passes by.
    I'm not looking for arguments here, this is just my opinion.
    Another thing, make sure your payload (weight inside and on the hitch of the Armada) weight isn't exceeded.

    Air suspension is not your true friend here. The problem is that it creates illusion of proper weight distribution but in fact it masks the lack of it. You have to tighten your hitch to the point that the vehicle is level WITHOUT auto leveling. You may have to use scales to make sure that you return weight to the front wheels and may be add a few more pounds from hitch weight.
    In addition, with well tensioned hitch your sway control will go to the max.
    With my Durango RT TNG and 7300 lb Imagine 2800 I don't feel 18 wheelers and winds up to 25 mph whatsoever. Armada is slightly softer sprung but still a very good vehicle.

      Hello, we just bought our Armada to upgrade our tow vehicle. It depends on what you like, but we love our travel trailer. It is a hybrid, Jayco X23F. It has slide out that gives us plenty of space to move around. It has 3 queen size beds (pop outs) plus the dinette and the couch. Dry it is 4300 lbs and 6K max, so the Armada has way more capacity. We like the "tent" beds because it still makes it feel like camping and it gives you plenty of room. Hope this helps.

    We have been towing a Keystone Springdale 298BH (6,800lbs dry) with a 2019 SV for about a year now. Curt weight distribution hitch and 2 sway bars. The Armada is a bit bouncy so we installed a set of Firestone Fir4150 Coil Rite Air Springs in the rear suspension. Hey Buddy, I am currently also in the same boat as you are looking to get a travel trailer bunkhouse. I own a 2019 Infiniti Qx80, not sure if it has the same air suspension as your Armada, maybe it does? The dry weight of the trailer is approximately 7200lbs with a max cargo capacity of 2200lbs. Do you think the QX80 can tow with say 1000lbs of cargo or is that too much? BTW the total length is 37.5 feet.

    • @blaing3354
      @blaing3354 3 роки тому +2

      8500 max. look at trailer gvwr which is the dry weight, plus fluids, plus cargo. you want the gvwr to be under 8500 ideally.
      y62 armada/qx showing about 1600lbs payload capacity which is the people in the car plus the weight of their luggage.
      trailer you picked at max gvwr will exceed the y62 tow capacity before even considering it hauls 7 people.
      you should be closer in the 30 or less length range with a non HD suv anyway

    • @paulchylinski9638
      @paulchylinski9638 3 роки тому

      Hey, just doing a bunch of research into this as well. Your combo above seems on the heavier side, about a thousand lbs over the max. I would suggest not to exceed 8,500lbs of dry weight plus cargo capacity. For this class of towing capacity you want to look for a 28-32 foot trailer, preferably with an aluminum frame, that should keep you in the proper weight range in geberal. A 37 foot trailer is too big for these SUVs, you want a pickup truck for that.

    • @bmcguigan1
      @bmcguigan1  3 роки тому

      They share the same suspension and Chassis. I would not be comfortable going beyond a 32/33’ overall length, and around 7500 max loaded.

      Take a look at the Keystone Outback 291UBH. I just bought one. Its a 33" Ultralight trailer. The trailer's sticker says the dry weight is 6810. Because, I was paranoid about not exceeding any of the weights, i.e tongue, GVWR, GCWR, etc, I took it and my 2019 Armada to a CAT scale and weighed them with most of my cargo and no water in any of the tanks. Steer axel =3160 Drive Axel = 3900 Trailer Axel = 6460. Total axel = 13520. Granted, most times it will just be me, the wife, and a couple of yorkies but I was happy to see I have a little payload to play with. We went on a shakedown trip about 2 hours away in the higher altitudes of CO. I was amazed the Armada handled so well...even in somewhat strong winds on the return trip home

    Hi, and thanks for posting this video! Like you and Mandinator already said, there is very little UA-cam content on Armada towing. We've just purchased 2017 Armada Platinum, and a 2015 Keystone Bullet 272BHS. Like that trailer as it's 5,030lbs dry weight, so even with max payload of 2,500lbs, it will be about a thousand pounds below Armada's max towing capacity.
    We had a popup trailer for the past 10 years, (towed it with Kia Sorento), so I have some experience, but obviously this is going to be a different game with the high, long and heavier Hard-top trailer.
    How did you find the breaking with the Armada, towing that trailer with a break controller? Any tail-swaying while breaking?
    Did you use the Tow-mode on the Armada? Any noticeable difference with vs without it?
    Also curious about fuel consumption, do you have any info on how you did with the trailer on that?
    Thanks for anything you can share! Hope you stay safe and enjoy your Trailer!

    • @bmcguigan1
      @bmcguigan1  3 роки тому

      I use a Curt brake controller plugged into the factory harness. It makes a huge difference in my comfort level with a trailer that size! At the time of this video we were running A/T tires and were seeing about 9-10 MPGs as opposed to around 13 with no trailer. We just switched to HT tires so I am interested to see if they impact fuel economy. No sway but we were using a Husky Centerline TS WD hitch with sway bars.

    • @boobylinks
      @boobylinks 2 роки тому

      Trailer brakes makes very good sense, especially in long downhill grades so you don't overheat and warp your tow vehicle's rotors. Worse yet if your tow vehicle were to boil the brake fluid when overtaxed then fluid has no where to go except out past the brake cylinders seals leaving you to rely on the trailer's brakes to save you. Stepping on the E-brake will just jack knife your tow vehicle.

      Essentially, turn the vehicle off once it is in position and hook up the trailer and adjust until optimal height or close to it is achieved. Once you start the Armada, it will only make minor adjustments rather than allowing to adjust prior to WDH adjustment.
