As an 82 year old golfer who has watched a myriad of UA-cam videos on golf advice, this is the most helpful and practical blog I have seen. Thank you for this.
Per my earlier comment I promised that after I put this in play I would give you feedback. Although it’s still a work in process, I used these suggestions to get a bigger turn. OMG! My dispersion and distance improved a lot. I got my iron distances back and hit one drive on a par 5 that shocked my playing partners. Thanx again Eric.
I am 77 years young and have just seen your great video. However just today at the range I developed this same method of swing. With the stance closed a little I am able to make a full turn, also dipping a little down towards the ball with my left shoulder and I am achieving a slight push to the right causing a slight draw or as most of my shots were, hitting really straight shots. Great video and great advice. Also I maintain both arms close to the body on the back swing and through. Having had a lengthy break from golf I am really pleased with my emerging progress.and may it continue.I shall be going to your site on a regular basis and following your marvellous instructions. Thanks Eric.
I am an oldie of 77 years.I haven,t played for some time now but visit the range once or twice a week to practice new things that I have seen on Utube videos.I have found that by withdrawing my trail foot and keeping my upper arms close to my body during the swing that I can make a full swing with good results.I also raise my left foot a little during the back swing and replace it to start my downswing. Also I have discovered how to "swing" the club through without trying to "hit at" the ball.I am still having some problems with my Driver but this is I am sure a mental thing and I hope to soon overcome this. Thanks for all your advice for Senior golfers it is much appreciated.Bob.
Great information. I am 60 years old and lately, I've found that I had lost some distance and accuracy. I went out yesterday after viewing this video and tried the stance, flaring the right foot and putting the ball slightly back in my stance, and it worked very well. Greater distance, more accuracy at target. All-in-all shot a very good round (79). Thanks for the tips keep them coming.
I’m probably one of the youngest golfers watching this. 41 and missing the right leg below the knee, partially fused left ankle and fused low lumbar. 104 driver speed, 90 with the irons. For me it’s all about the lines. Times my body starts slowly to open up way too much and alignment gets wonky. Some of my best ball striking has been when the hands release more between the shoulders and head. When that happens I’m hitting greens all day effortlessly. As soon as I have to auto correct. Game over. Great vid. Thanks.
Eric Cogorno Golf it would be great to see a video that helps to build a routine to establish these lines. For those of us who play open or closed the brain can get out of whack and then loose trust.
Alignment sticks on the range every time you hit balls for next 3 years. Intermediate targets on range and course Same routine every single time. That should do the trick.
Just to tell you how much I appreciate your senior stance. Tried it and today, and it worked perfectly. Normal score is 78 to 80. 74 today with about 20 to 30 yards better. Not to bad for a guy 69. Thanks so much man.
Watched your video yesterday and tried it at the course today. I followed your advice, consciously moved my right foot back slightly and turned it out just a bit. The results were great. I found my drives consistently going 15-20 yards further and the crazy thing it made me aware of my follow through which somehow straightened out my slice. Every drive was down the center of the fairway. One small correction helped other aspects of the swing fall into place with gratifying results. Thanks for the info.
Golf is difficult enough but becomes even more challenging as we get older and lack flexibility. Your video is outstanding for us seniors to help maintain club head speed and maximize rotation! Thank you!!!
Wow! Your videos show that you truly understand senior golfers problems. I’m 73 and have had both knees replaced. One is really screwed up so these videos are amazingly helpful. Thanks for you great ideas.
Great advice. Took a lesson once from a pro who wanted me to swing like a tour pro. He told me all of the pros get a lot of turn back and through. I agreed that they did, but then informed him I wasn't a golf pro. This is what all of us aging golfers aspiring to get better or maintain a decent handicap need to hear. Otherwise we're just going to hurt ourselves and drop out of the game altogether.
You are spot on in what you are saying about senior golfers as I have been having ups and downs with my swing till I realised I was picking the club up and not doing a full shoulder turn, I always have my right foot back at address which helps me to create a full back swing as you have shown and when I do I surprise myself in how far my drive go's! For a young man like yourself, you have great knowledge of us older guy's, so I take my hat off to you Sir! I played on Saturday there and made a full of myself, yet today I played like a low handicapper only because I used my shoulders on the back swing! I am playing tomorrow, lets hope I do not forget yesterdays swing lol! Many thanks for your input!
Eric, I love your lessons and your approach to playing better golf. As a senior golfer (age 77), I do not have the time or the inclination to develop an ideal golf swing. I do, however, in your words, want to "play the best with what I have." I have a 16 handicap and play on a very difficult course with forced carries, hazards, and undulating greens. Please tell me how to setup and construct the noodle (distance from ball, height and angle of noodle, etc.). Many thanks!
Hi Eric, sorry, this may be a long winded post. I first saw this video when it came out, two years ago. I'm 65 now and I noticed a big problem with my swing is that instead of turning my hips on the backswing, i tended to bump them to the right (a sway away from the target). I focused on kicking in my left knee, straightening my right leg and making a better turn. It worked, but it was hard to do consistently and I had to think about it a lot. And then I remembered this video and dropped my right foot back, flared it out and wow, it was so much easier to make that hip turn, now. So now I'm whacking myself in the head saying, "Why the heck didn't I listen to Eric earlier??". Thanks Eric :)
Chris thanks for linking this to me. Since this has gotten 800,000+ views, I think it makes my point that a ton of golfers have figured out that they are physicially or athletically incapapable of producing a "modern" swing. Thanks again. Tony
Eric, I want to thank you for this video. It has helped my golf game immensely. I’m a 71 year old golfer who has lost some range of motion due to lack of flexibility and an injury to my left(lead) foot. After practicing then applying you tips my last three scores have been 79,72,74. I’m hitting the ball farther and much more consistently. One adaptation I’ve made to avoid pain in my left foot during my follow through extension is to flare it out slightly. Maybe this will help some others with a similar problem. Thanks again for your help.
Watched this video last week and put it into action during our club completion last Saturday. Definite increase in distance across all clubs, particularly the driver. Best result this year, fifth place with 69! Thank you Eric you have given me some hope! Ray Rigby Mere Golf UK.
Great video Eric, This is the best video for me. 73 year old 10 HCP hit the ball straight or slight fade drive goes 210.. Really need to draw the ball to pick up distance. Clubs are fitted at 1/2 inch long 2 degrees upright works for my steep downswing.
Hail to the old people, I'm 64 Eric. This is a great example of what I gotta do to turn. I watched so many of your videos And this one is a big help, thank you bro
Hi Eric, thx for the video. I am 67 years old. I have been working through golfers elbow and left shoulder impingement. I will start to try your lessons for senior golfers. With this video I will be in fear of shanking the ball. I will try it out. Thx again :) Todd G.
I have a double spinal fusion L4-S1 and was a scratch golfer when I was in my mid 30s but after seven back surgeries I could barely move. I’m 50 now and I have been hitting some balls and this video helped me with rotation. I was hitting an 8 iron 165. Thanks, and I will check your other videos.
Excellent instructions for saving your back and hips! I totally agree with these instructions from a physical therapist's point of view. I was instructed to use open stance after lumbar fusion, and tore my left gluteus medius and minimus muscles. Post hip repair, I adopted the closed stance to protect my back and forward hip. Now I am working on inside out swing, and can't wait to adopt early extension to gain loft and reduce my excess draw. By limiting excessive back extension and over rotation, I am also helping to reduce scoliosis. I like the entire package of instruction: It works great on driver and fairway; hopefully I can adopt the pattern to work with my irons.
Thanks, Lisa! Appreciate the kind words and confirmation on those pieces! I have seen these minor adjustments help a lot of people! I hope it helps you enjoy your golf as well!
Wow, as a senior golfer, I'll be 60 in a couple of weeks, this is an eye opener. These are the things I've been doing intuitively, and that my instructor has been trying to "fix". Time to get back doing what came naturally.
eric, this really works and it's a lot easier to do for a 70 year old. consistent ball flight, good distance and easy to time and repeat. thnx so much for the help.
I’m 75 and reasonably flexible. I have always thought the follow through more important than the backswing. This video has changed my mind. Taking the trail foot back a bit has really opened up my swing and given me back some lost distance. I thought I would be pushing shots right but not so. I’m getting a much more solid strike and swinging like the old days! I feared pushing everything right but this has not happened. For me, a game changing video, thanks
Hi Eric, Thank you for the video your explanation is precise and simple to understand . I have been using this stance and swing for the last couple of months, for a person like myself, (58 yrs old), who has had both hips and left knee replaced this "swing for seniors" is invaluable. It has taken stress out of my lower back and hips and due to this golf is again enjoyable to play. I had a session on TrackMan the other day at the range, in general all aspects of my game had improved the only thing coach didn't like was the early extension so I have forwarded him the video. Once again many thanks for your video. Cheers from Downunder.
Appreciate it my friend! I'm glad to hear that! Of course, as you mention, the early extension is the "risk" with this pattern but I think the pros are more than the cons for most people!
What a great video, simple and easy to follow and exactly what I have been feeling as I am closing in on 70. Not only do I understand it but the way it is set out it is easy to feel it, wonderful !!
I just love your dedication you give to us viewers and that you never ever degrade us armature golfers in what we are, your tuition is spot on and is much appreciated! Thank you so much for being who you are - a supper star!
About time someone explained it easier for us oldies, even though I am only 44 I have found this helpful especially with a tilted pelvis. Thankyou Eric
I was forced to cancel my $395/yr. membership due to income limitations but watching this video has me second guessing that decision. I am a 76 year old Marine Corps veteran with back issues and this video which I saved long ago is extremely helpful. Thank you very much for your quality instruction and especially for the consideration to senior limitations. As always your instruction is concise and very clear.
I'm a 65 y/o senior trying to find a few more yards. I started doing some of this on my own before seeing your video but need to move my right foot back a bit more and flare it as you show. I was once a big drawer of the golf ball but instructors tried to get me out of it by going more traditional. And I got away from a strong left hand grip but probably need to strengthen it a bit again. As one instructor once told me......golf is a game of consistent adjustments.
Eric, great video aimed at my age group. Now that you've confirmed my early extension is fine as is my impact wrist flip, I will work on those setup tips. I also feel many of your watchers are seniors and would like to see more senior videos. Thank you.
Nicely presented. Have been using this setup for some years, as I am over 70; one thing that I would add, is to flair the front foot out a tad & it helps on the follow through..
First video I have seen to really explain why I should close my stance and make and show the benefits of doing so, TY. I am not 70 but in my early 60s and have resisted this because mentally I still think I am in my 30s. I have lost flexibility over the years. I will try this see how it works out.
@@CogornoGolf It did, played a round yesterday, I hit my irons well and long. I will continue experimenting with this closed method as my consistent go to for my irons. TY
There are hundreds of thousands, and maybe more, of golf videos on youtube, but I must say that without a doubt, your explanations and demonstrations are superior to anyone else out there. There may be other instructors who are as good (I haven't come across them yet), but no one out there is better than you.
At 10:30 EC says do these to hit it farther and higher and get a predictable draw pattern. I am in particular looking to hit the ball higher (& better of course) because I now live in FL and have seen a tremendous loss in distance because I have been a low draw player playing in mostly wet Florida conditions. My swing/ball speed is still good but I am costing myself a lot of distance off the tee because I don’t get run like I did in Colorado or even Hawaii where I used to live.
Want to make sure for carry distance you get the angle of attack UP enough. Keep the head behind the ball type feels and swing direction ore to the right typically ua-cam.com/video/hbsHxC3bIw4/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/TJtx-qVSgVU/v-deo.html also check out this one ua-cam.com/video/RmfIDAC1Mcs/v-deo.html
Hey, a great vid for seniors. You fully understand how to make it easier for seniors to enjoy playing golf. For me, your advice about changing the standard stance to one which suits seniors. also, your tip on adjusting expectations to what seniors can do, are appreciated. I have experimented with different stances and I feel it works. ( it still takes me 15 strokes or more for a par 5, but this time, I'm pain free, and enjoying it.) Domo arigato....
I have been doing this lately and its helping my distance very much! Im only 47 and its really working for me. I was just trying to set up to hit big draws and noticed right away I was getting better carry yardage.
This swing really works well for me. Question, I play on a course that requires many left to right shot. how do you hit a fade with this set up. Thanks
Hey David! If you setup closed like this you would need to kick your swing direction (path) left quite a bit. Or don't setup as closed....this is not ideal setup for fade
Thank you. This video is very helpful. My father needs to see this asap. He loves the game but is a bit concerned about his deminishing ability. Your instruction is excellent.
Hey Eric- I’m a senior golfer. I do all you mentioned. Swing to right and early extend. However with the early extension I find I’m beginning to hit near the hosel. This has happened more so recently than it used to. I’ve always had an inside to out swing and hit a natural draw. That’s the way I learned how to play. I was told that would give more extension with my arms. The only thing that’s different nowadays is I have arthritis in my right hand fingers very bad. I play with a medium Jumbomax grip, as my ring finger doesn’t bend very much. I basically hold the club with index finger and thumb on right hand, and last 2 fingers on left hand. I’m wondering if my fingers or grip would cause me to hosel ball. This has only been happening in last 6 months or so. Thanks for all you do. Ron Harrington
Thanks for the kind words, Ron! Appreciate it. As per your questions--I'm not sure. I would really need to see your swing on video to say for sure so I can see what exactly is going on. I just would be guessing too much without seeing. Consider joining our team at www.cogornogolf.com so you can send in your swings and I can give you better answers!
Eric, Very helpful video. I have done as you say. It makes full sense. Unfortunately, my balls tend to go too much to the right. I suppose my trail foot is too much back and/or ball position is too much back. I need to continuing to do some adjustments until am able to have straight shoots. Thanks, Carlos
Best video I've seen on this important topic. I've tried experimenting with this over the last few weeks but was keeping back foot squared. Also, was not playing ball back enough and ended up hitting behind the ball. Now it makes sense. Can't wait to try this out next time at the range. Thanks very much for an excellent video!
Very helpful video Eric ! since i have some back pain problems, i hope this will help. in addition, as a wrong lefty, my tendancy is to use my right thumb as an accelerator instead of rolling my right hand. How to correct this? thank you for a suggestion
Hey! Thanks for the kind words! I would really have to see you swing to say for sure what you should or shouldn't do based on what you currently do. Check out Cogornogolf.com if you cant get it sorted
Ok, getting old sucks. I appreciate this video, as understandably most UA-cam instruction videos are given with assumptions that don’t apply to the majority of seniors. Attaining the stock swing model is not aimed at us and it is a pipe dream to believe you can copy it without having the necessary physical attributes. It is hard to admit we are no longer able to perform the tasks we once took for granted. Do not assume this video does not apply to you. Accept your limitations. Copy this swing model and you can still kick some ass. I an 74 and still taking money from my 30, 40 and 50 year old playing partners.
Thanks, Brad! I do not like a restricted turn nor coil during the backswing... I do like to see more of a separation DURING TRANSITION where the pelvis has a little separation from the torso. I haven't seen restricting things during the backswing be very beneficial UNLESS someone is wildly out of control during backswing
Great video Eric! I found this really works great for me having had 8 back surgeries and being fused as well. I lost a lot of flexibility and this really works for me! Thanks for the awesome tips!!
Very very similar to Channel lock; but enough differences as well such more trail foot ball placement in CL and especially no body extension as you just demonstrated. Excellent presentation though and love your sincerity in helping us senior golfers.
Great video as always. Great observation about the early extension. Most instructors would never have said that. I've already got the extension built in, so I'm halfway there!
Thanks Eric! Definitely going to give this a shot. I have a physical disability and can't raise arms above my head very much. So rotation is everything for distance in my swing. My backswing typically only gets the shaft to vertical/just past vertical. I've been trying to work the ball left to right more rather than the typical cut or fade (I'm left handed). Thanks for the video!
This swing is a lot like Sam Snead but it seems like he came over the top on the downswing which I was trying. I'm 69, getting back into golf seriously and had not been able, with a lot of reading, to put together a consistent swing that doesn't make me sore. I can still do a full turn but only for one round every 2 or 3 days. I just played 3 days in a row following your teaching in this video, the one on how to hinge your wrists properly and keeping my arms extended. I dropped 8 shots at least and would break 80 if I had a short game. I'm able to swing under control with your method and gained 20-30 yards on my drive. I also researched balls and I think the Bridgestone E6 balls also helped distance and straighter shots. Just watched your chipping and pitching videos, that's next. Thank you!!
I'm a member of the PGA Half Century Club and still teaching golf daily at 80 years of age. When I was 50 years old I foolishly thought I could teach senior golfers a good simple swing. Over the past dozen or so years I have found that only until I went through the aches , pains and decreased flexibility of senior players was I really qualified to help them. I was totally incorrect in what I thought many seniors could do physically as every senior has different physical capabilities. Eric has some nice swing thoughts, and this is not a knock, but until he walks the walk physically and painfully as I have done, will he actually find out how to help seniors. I believe Eric is a solid teacher and I wish him good vibes along his journey..
Thanks for the message and I love to hear you're out there helping golfers. I agree...there is no better learning than going through it ourselves....I can only hope one day I experience that as well :)
Just turned 55. Have been a competitive golfer all my life (last year has been rough as I was stricken with GBS).. but now on the mend.. I've "sort of" always early extended.. and have been "trying" to turn my hips for a couple of years to no avail. Seems the only thing I get is more lower back pain. I used to play a "sort of" pull draw.. but was pretty consistent with it. This has got me thinking I should stop trying to clear my hips.. and go back to what's more natural?
Love this video. You've packed a lot of valuable info in this video, all of which apply to me. Since I am one of those OLDER guys who is desperate to gain consistency and lost distance, this has lots of promise. I've just discovered your channel and can't wait to see more. Thanks
I really like this video. I tried to take it to the sim today. I often slice or dead pull. OTT somewhat. Today only a dead pull. Often off the tee with a variety of clubs. I used your right foot back and flared. I try to maintain a light grip pressure but it seems to get tighter during the swing. Or I just suck at this game I love. Not a good ball striker. Still shot 94 with no mullies.
Keep working it, Al! You can get better. Check out cogornogolf.com if you don't get it sorted-we would be happy to help and could help a lot more if we could see your swing! Get the $39/mo option!
Kudos for addressing the unique issues of senior golfers, although I think the category starts much younger than age 75. I also think seniors are the majority of your viewers. Another outstanding video; you are in a league of your own!
I'm 62..being very active all my life mainly manual labor has helped me stay somewhat flexible. That being said I can never match what flexibility you have @ 30 something. I thought time wouldn't affect me ...I was wrong. The key is to stay active as best you can. Exercise at 62 comes harder than we imagine. Great video as usual Eric..
Eric I'm 62years old and for the first time in years. I felt that full motion behind the ball with so little effort I hit the ball 50yards further than I have in years.because of better extension from your tips thank you
Eric, This video is great. I am only 62, but have lower back problems so this works well. I am hitting the ball more consistently and longer especially with my Driver. The only problem seems to be with more lofted irons where i hit it thin sometimes. Thanks, keep these senior videos coming and I think I will play better and better
Great video Eric, I am 40 years old and have been playing golf since I was 12 so I have a golf swing and am not a beginner. I like this senior swing idea because I am not the most flexible 40 year old on the planet. I have a question about shorter players (I am 5 feet tall). Do the same principles apply to very short golfers that apply to senior golfers in terms of how to generate club head speed? Have you done videos for smaller golfers?
Eric I sent you a comment two or three days ago. This was a great video for us old farts. Let me tell you a little bit about myself, I’m 74 use to have a single digit handicap (2-9) then when I 5urned 65 things start to change 3 back surgeries, several eye surgeries, and the straw that broke the camels back was the loss of vision in my right eye with all of that I went to 20+ handicap. I think with the videos that you suggested could help. Thanks Bascom Sims
I am 75 and definitely have lost flexibility and distance. These points will help to deal with what I can do. Been working on improving the short game and putting since that is where I can pick up strokes based on after game analysis. Worth while video.
Hi r Eric I watched your senior golf video last night. In the past i would try bringing he club inside and I would shank. I tried your setup today on the course and it was great. I hit some great shots thanks so much keep the seniorvideos coming.
Excellent video. I made adjustments during my practice session today and it helps tremendously. Hooking ball a bit since I didn’t adjust ball position so will give that a go next time out. Also focused on tempo. Thanks again.
Great info I'm 57 years old and if have just returned to the game after several years off and my body has told me to set up this way to feel fluid if not I hit the ball left it was great to see your video to give me some reassurance
Excellent explanation of the truth of the situation that still allows those less physically fit to continue years of enjoyment. You continue to impress with new content that is helpful for the recreational golfer and students of the game. Thank You!
Thank you Eric about time somebody thought of us the older guys we do get neglected I used to be of 5 handicap now in my 70's its creeping up because I am getting shorter . great tip
Thanks! Yep! Some more on the driver senior stuff here: ua-cam.com/video/KGEBSufIGwo/v-deo.html&pp=ygUaRXJpYyBDb2dvcm5vIHNlbmlvciBkcml2ZXI%3D ua-cam.com/video/oLnZxFQt_8s/v-deo.html&pp=ygUaRXJpYyBDb2dvcm5vIHNlbmlvciBkcml2ZXI%3D ua-cam.com/video/mcr8AVc8y6o/v-deo.html&pp=ygUaRXJpYyBDb2dvcm5vIHNlbmlvciBkcml2ZXI%3D
great video, I also found with my bad back & hips shorting your stance also helps with the turn. Pretty much keep the same distance for all my shots. I know you think for the driver that's crazy, but believe me, I can get a better turn and most important, get through the ball and out to 1 o'clock for good straight drives. Works for me, I only hit my best drive 190 yds. Will never be able to take the club all the way back so straight beats distance in my case. Then I moved up one more tee, just so I can fully enjoy the game.
hey eric....at 10min you just explained why i got the shanks yesterday. my prob is...with the bad left shoulder i can only do about 10oclock at the "top". so, do i need to worry about more rotation going back? i think i do just engage more lower bod and the core. i can still keep up with irons with most of the guys i play but my driver is way, way off
I struggle with flexibility I’ve just stumbled across this video and I’ll be taking this to the range with me tomorrow great explanation of getting more turn on the backswing as this is where I have issues. Keep up the great work
@@CogornoGolf tried it out today I was striking the ball more consistently, I’ve tried all different kinds of things through all your videos and not many have worked but this …… wow even flaring my back foot helped significantly can’t thank you enough
Eric this has really help me especially with my back. Only issue I am seeing with this swing is occasional blocks to the right? Maybe I have my stance too closed? Any tips to remedy blocks? Thanks and great video!
Loved your video. I don't seem to have enough time during the swing to do the rotation bit. I'm absolutely going to try what you suggest. Arnie Markowitz-Canada
A body at rest is a simple coil. To get body extension you need to shorten the coil which then becomes a spring=shortened coil. That is why good golfer's heads go down with the backswing and go up with the follow through to create 'extension'. Nice video.
will be 64 come june. i am trying to keep something of the swing i had 20yrs ago. it's not working. i do many of the things you show here. flare the right foot is a big help. you just explained why when i close my stance i now hit a ball to the right vs a soft draw like i used to do. but when i open my stance i more often than not i hit one str8 left or the prettiest draw you ever saw. can't wait for this damn weather to cooperate to get started on these issues
Great video and I certainly will try with my irons. My question is regards the driver and rescues. Do you still place the ball a little back in your stance?
Well.... Back relative to your normal driver ball position but not back in your stance Just back relative to your normal....so still forward in stance but not as forward
As an 82 year old golfer who has watched a myriad of UA-cam videos on golf advice, this is the most helpful and practical blog I have seen. Thank you for this.
Appreciate it, William!
Its been 2 years, how are you? Can you still play?
Per my earlier comment I promised that after I put this in play I would give you feedback. Although it’s still a work in process, I used these suggestions to get a bigger turn. OMG! My dispersion and distance improved a lot. I got my iron distances back and hit one drive on a par 5 that shocked my playing partners. Thanx again Eric.
Love to hear that, David!
Thanks for the message, Bob! I'm glad to hear you're heading in the right direction and I appreciate the kind words!
I'm not a senior but with a lower back problem that's causing lack of flexibility I am very stoked to use this swing....Thank you very much
Hope it helps, Trevor and hope you back feels better!
Love it, Bob! That sounds like a lot of things we would typically recommend so we are right in line!
Awesome! Thanks for the message Wellesley! Happy to hear it helped!
Game over.
Great vid. Thanks.
Love to hear that! Sounds like you're on the right track my friend....hope you continue to enjoy your golf!
Eric Cogorno Golf it would be great to see a video that helps to build a routine to establish these lines. For those of us who play open or closed the brain can get out of whack and then loose trust.
Alignment sticks on the range every time you hit balls for next 3 years.
Intermediate targets on range and course
Same routine every single time.
That should do the trick.
Just to tell you how much I appreciate your senior stance. Tried it and today, and it worked perfectly. Normal score is 78 to 80. 74 today with about 20 to 30 yards better. Not to bad for a guy 69. Thanks so much man.
Love to hear that! My pleasure my friend!
Excellent! Love to hear that, Stephen! Appreciate the kind words my friend!
Golf is difficult enough but becomes even more challenging as we get older and lack flexibility. Your video is outstanding for us seniors to help maintain club head speed and maximize rotation! Thank you!!!
MY pleasure-Thanks, Rick!
Wow! Your videos show that you truly understand senior golfers problems. I’m 73 and have had both knees replaced. One is really screwed up so these videos are amazingly helpful. Thanks for you great ideas.
Thanks, David! Appreciate the kind words...hope it helps!
Gotta make the most of what ya got!
Been off 25 yrs and decided time to get back kicking ass. You my friend are EXCELLENT in your teaching Thank you for being here to guide me
MY pleasure my friend!
Thanks, Alan! Appreciate the kind words...I hope you continue to see some good results and are enjoying the game :)
Thanks, William!
Here is a video that explains what you're looking for: ua-cam.com/video/APsIJ4M2oSY/v-deo.html
Lol--better late than never right bill?! Hope it continues to serve you well!
Love to hear that, Judy! Thanks for the message and the kind words! I hope you continue to enjoy your golf!
Watched this video last week and put it into action during our club completion last Saturday.
Definite increase in distance across all clubs, particularly the driver. Best result this year, fifth place with 69!
Thank you Eric you have given me some hope! Ray Rigby Mere Golf UK.
Love to hear that, Ray! Great playing!!
Great video Eric, This is the best video for me. 73 year old 10 HCP hit the ball straight or slight fade drive goes 210.. Really need to draw the ball to pick up distance. Clubs are fitted at 1/2 inch long 2 degrees upright works for my steep downswing.
Thanks! Hope it helps, Jim!
Hail to the old people, I'm 64 Eric. This is a great example of what I gotta do to turn. I watched so many of your videos And this one is a big help, thank you bro
Appreciate ya Jerry---hope this one serves you well!
Hi Eric, thx for the video. I am 67 years old. I have been working through golfers elbow and left shoulder impingement. I will start to try your lessons for senior golfers. With this video I will be in fear of shanking the ball. I will try it out. Thx again :) Todd G.
Hope it helps my friend!
Happy to hear that my friend!
Best video I have seen in a while for 50+ age golfers like me.
Thanks, Kelly!
Wow, as a senior golfer, I'll be 60 in a couple of weeks, this is an eye opener. These are the things I've been doing intuitively, and that my instructor has been trying to "fix". Time to get back doing what came naturally.
Hope it helps, John!
Yep. I also have been confused by instruction when listening to your body's movement is easier.
eric, this really works and it's a lot easier to do for a 70 year old. consistent ball flight, good distance and easy to time and repeat. thnx so much for the help.
My pleasure, Steve! Happy to hear that!
Thanks for the quick response and video Eric!!
Much appreciated!!!!
Will start working on this immediately!!!!
Hope it serves you well Jake!
Excellent! Glad to hear that, Gavin!
Hi Eric,
Thank you for the video your explanation is precise and simple to understand .
Of course, as you mention, the early extension is the "risk" with this pattern but I think the pros are more than the cons for most people!
finally a video targeted for seniors, what a blessing now this old dog will be able to stay up with the young pups can't wait for summer now
Hope it helps, Tim!!
What a great video, simple and easy to follow and exactly what I have been feeling as I am closing in on 70. Not only do I understand it but the way it is set out it is easy to feel it, wonderful !!
Thanks, David! Hope it helps!
I just love your dedication you give to us viewers and that you never ever degrade us armature golfers in what we are, your tuition is spot on and is much appreciated! Thank you so much for being who you are - a supper star!
Thanks, Alan! Glad you enjoyed the videos and I appreciate the kind remarks!
It would be nice if he referred to the many women golfers who also play a s seniors with limitations.
About time someone explained it easier for us oldies, even though I am only 44 I have found this helpful especially with a tilted pelvis. Thankyou Eric
My pleasure my friend!
Appreciate your support, Jack!👊
I'm a 65 y/o senior trying to find a few more yards. I started doing some of this on my own before seeing your video but need to move my right foot back a bit more and flare it as you show. I was once a big drawer of the golf ball but instructors tried to get me out of it by going more traditional. And I got away from a strong left hand grip but probably need to strengthen it a bit again. As one instructor once told me......golf is a game of consistent adjustments.
Definitely a game of constant adjustments! Gotta love it! Thanks for being here with us...hope you continue to enjoy your golf!
Good to see an instructor teaching physical reality rather than the tour pro ideal. I'm a fan for sure.
Appreciate it!
Wow Eric I have been trying to swing with rotation this video makes a lot of sense that is my natural sent up and swing thanks
Eric, great video aimed at my age group. Now that you've confirmed my early extension is fine as is my impact wrist flip, I will work on those setup tips. I also feel many of your watchers are seniors and would like to see more senior videos. Thank you.
Thanks, John! You're right...we will work on doing more!
Rrt
Nicely presented. Have been using this setup for some years, as I am over 70; one thing that I would add, is to flair the front foot out a tad & it helps on the follow through..
Thanks, Bill! Agreed!
First video I have seen to really explain why I should close my stance and make and show the benefits of doing so, TY. I am not 70 but in my early 60s and have resisted this because mentally I still think I am in my 30s. I have lost flexibility over the years. I will try this see how it works out.
Hope it helps, Steven!
I appreciate the my friend :)
Eric. The response to your senior video is overwhelmingly positive. We are out there!
:) You're right!
I’m also struggling with arthritis in my L. hip which is starting to affect my follow through. Good stuff for me here Eric, thanks again!
Want to make sure for carry distance you get the angle of attack UP enough.
Keep the head behind the ball type feels and swing direction ore to the right typically

Appreciate the kind words, Michael!
I have been doing this lately and its helping my distance very much! Im only 47 and its really working for me. I was just trying to set up to hit big draws and noticed right away I was getting better carry yardage.
Love it!
Great video. I am 72 years old and don't see enough golf videos for us seniors. Thanks.
Thanks! We will be doing more moving forward!
Great Video, not only for Seniors, but also for every weekend hacker with a tendency to slice it.
Thanks! Yes it is...
Thank you. This video is very helpful. My father needs to see this asap. He loves the game but is a bit concerned about his deminishing ability. Your instruction is excellent.
Appreciate it, John!
Just one more question. Is it possible to fade a driver from this setup ?
Hey Tom!
It is possible but less likely. This would be more for a draw.
Hey Carlos! Could be...OR get the club face more closed to the path to get it to curve back to the left more
Best video I've seen on this important topic. I've tried experimenting with this over the last few weeks but was keeping back foot squared. Also, was not playing ball back enough and ended up hitting behind the ball. Now it makes sense. Can't wait to try this out next time at the range. Thanks very much for an excellent video!
Thanks, Alan! My pleasure....will be doing more for senior golfers within the next few months!!
Brilliant way for seniors to swing. Well explained especially ball position for irons. Keep up the good work Eric thank you .
Thanks, David!
Great video. Eric talks a lot of sense and so easy to understand. Many thanks , Eric. I will definitely check out your other videos. Cheers !!!
Thanks, James! Hope they help!
Love it, Tom!
Great video. Do you a video that shows how to make the stand that holds the noodle
Thanks, Al!
You can always put a drivewa marker (alignment rod) through a range bucket like this:
ua-cam.com/video/APsIJ4M2oSY/v-deo.html
Great video, like the idea of swing path and stance. Do you have any suggestions concerning a restricted turn/coil because of a back issue?
Thanks, Brad!
I do not like a restricted turn nor coil during the backswing...
I do like to see more of a separation DURING TRANSITION where the pelvis has a little separation from the torso.
I haven't seen restricting things during the backswing be very beneficial UNLESS someone is wildly out of control during backswing
@@CogornoGolf
Eric, Thanks for the quick reply, will try to follow your instructions on this video.
Great video Eric! I found this really works great for me having had 8 back surgeries and being fused as well. I lost a lot of flexibility and this really works for me! Thanks for the awesome tips!!
Love to hear it's helped Brian!! Our pleasure!
Very very similar to Channel lock; but enough differences as well such more trail foot ball placement in CL and especially no body extension as you just demonstrated. Excellent presentation though and love your sincerity in helping us senior golfers.
Thanks, Thomas! Appreciate it!
Great video as always. Great observation about the early extension. Most instructors would never have said that. I've already got the extension built in, so I'm halfway there!
Thanks!!
Hope it helps my friend!
Very helpful. I will work this into my practice
:) Hope it helps Kevin!
Thank you!!
Awesome Frederick! Keep it up!!
I agree...there is no better learning than going through it ourselves....I can only hope one day I experience that as well :)
kyrishi, well after all that can we expect some helpful you tube videos from you or is such qualified assistance only for your paying students?
Just turned 55. Have been a competitive golfer all my life (last year has been rough as I was stricken with GBS).. but now on the mend.. I've "sort of" always early extended.. and have been "trying" to turn my hips for a couple of years to no avail. Seems the only thing I get is more lower back pain. I used to play a "sort of" pull draw.. but was pretty consistent with it. This has got me thinking I should stop trying to clear my hips.. and go back to what's more natural?
Agreed, Darrell! I would go back and play the pull draw my friend!
Can make some minor tweaks to get the ball started more to the right!
Love this video. You've packed a lot of valuable info in this video, all of which apply to me. Since I am one of those OLDER guys who is desperate to gain consistency and lost distance, this has lots of promise. I've just discovered your channel and can't wait to see more. Thanks
Thanks, Wayne! Hope the videos help!
Thanks. Lol of course, I was just making an exaggerated example....I'm 30 and can't move like I used to.
@@redhed9776 sounds like me but i got a few years on ya. good golfin to ya.
Eric I'm 62years old and for the first time in years. I felt that full motion behind the ball with so little effort I hit the ball 50yards further than I have in years.because of better extension from your tips thank you
Love to hear that Rick!
Eric,
This video is great. I am only 62, but have lower back problems so this works well. I am hitting the ball more consistently and longer especially with my Driver. The only problem seems to be with more lofted irons where i hit it thin sometimes. Thanks, keep these senior videos coming and I think I will play better and better
Appreciate it! Glad it helped!!
Great video simplified the downswing explained perfectly 👌
Thanks Timothy!
Question what is the best club to start practicing this technique love your video can't wait to get on the driving range and try it
8 iron
Appreciate the kind words!
Hey Reese
Yes they do apply
Nope I have not
What a great video, thank you for taking the time to do this!
Our pleasure, David! Thanks for being with us
Eric I sent you a comment two or three days ago.
Hope the videos help your game my friend! Our pleasure!
I am 75 and definitely have lost flexibility and distance. These points will help to deal with what I can do. Been working on improving the short game and putting since that is where I can pick up strokes based on after game analysis. Worth while video.

great video, I also found with my bad back & hips shorting your stance also helps with the turn.
Thanks! That works!!
hey eric....at 10min you just explained why i got the shanks yesterday. my prob is...with the bad left shoulder i can only do about 10oclock at the "top". so, do i need to worry about more rotation going back? i think i do just engage more lower bod and the core. i can still keep up with irons with most of the guys i play but my driver is way, way off

Terrific video Eric and excited to try these changes going forward. Thank you!!
Thanks, Ray! hope it helps!
@@CogornoGolf - I am sure it will Eric!! All the best Ray
A body at rest is a simple coil. To get body extension you need to shorten the coil which then becomes a spring=shortened coil. That is why good golfer's heads go down with the backswing and go up with the follow through to create 'extension'. Nice video.
👊Thank you, Paul!
will be 64 come june. i am trying to keep something of the swing i had 20yrs ago. it's not working. i do many of the things you show here. flare the right foot is a big help. you just explained why when i close my stance i now hit a ball to the right vs a soft draw like i used to do. but when i open my stance i more often than not i hit one str8 left or the prettiest draw you ever saw. can't wait for this damn weather to cooperate to get started on these issues
Warm weather coming up soon!!

they keep saying that...lol
Great video and I certainly will try with my irons. My question is regards the driver and rescues. Do you still place the ball a little back in your stance?
Well....
Back relative to your normal driver ball position
but not back in your stance
Just back relative to your normal....so still forward in stance but not as forward
is the club face open for this drill/swing or is it square to the red target line?
It should be pointe slightly RIGHT of your target line but your swing path will be FARTHER right.....so the face is closed to the swing path
