Best fish I ever had. I was on my open water diving certification. We spotted a school of good size bluegill as one spot just off the shoreline near camp. The next day after diving my friends got ready to cook. I and another friend took out fishing poles to that spot. We reeled in 18 or 19 good size bluegill. We went back. Cleaned and filleted them. Lightly breaded and right in a cast iron skillet. In all less than 30 minutes from catch to dinner. They were the juiciest, sweetest, most delicate, delicious fillets I've ever had.
Used to live in the countryside. 5 minute of walk, behind the house i rented, you had denivellation, terrain was going down, there was a river. There was a waterfall. Small one. But it was making a creek. It was s9 quiet. I would go there after work, with a big beer. Fish some small fish lile that. There was a lot of them there. I would fish 3 or 4 and cook them with garlic and butter. To this day, it was the best living i ever experienced.

Bluegill are easily some of the best eating fish. Comparable only to white perch in the spring, during the run when the water is still cold. That cold water makes that meat sooo firm n sweet. 😊
When I was a kid, I used to tie a string around my toe with a small hook and bubblegum. I'd sit on the end of our dock with my feet in the water and catch bluegill all day.

My father taught me how to clean and scale fish when I was 5 years old, but that was at some Northern lake or other. The bluegills and crappie in northern Illinois are nearly all from water contaminated by septic systems or lawn chemicals. The retention pond behind our house is stocked with carp, but I’d rather starve than consume it. Full of Roundup and God knows what else. I’ll go with the canned fish, thanks. If you live near pure, clean water, you are blessed. At age 12, I enjoyed brown trout in the Salmon River country-one of the best meals I ever ate!

I grew up winning fishing competitions at our campground. Bluegill and Crappie the best eating fish ever! If filleted not scaled. I could never manage to kill the poor things, so I'm almost 60 and still starving...😅 So I haven't fished in decades, but you have to be the first person to pronounce Crappie like this.
The man says if you're in survival situation this is a good idea to do sure if you have a pan a fishing pole some bait then sure yeah I'm pretty sure anybody could probably survive and I almost forgot butter and salt. 😅😂🤣
Crappie has 2 pronunciations. It can rhyme with poppy, or as he said it. It's also called the white perch in louisiana, & is their state fish. Louisianans usually say the poppy pronounciation. In case anyone is curious.
We call them "croppie" and they're delicious! We caught several before our tank dried up one year, and ended up keeping the largest as a pet in our fish tank! 😄 It ate all our guppies, and we fed it worms. Named him "fat fishy" 😊
Fresh caught fish tastes so much better than store bought... I used to fish at Lakeside Park in Dallas when I was young and catch blue gill and bass... That was some good eatin'
When you're in a survival situation and the fish are biting, keep catching till they stop biting. Then cook what you'll eat and preserve what you won't. Who knows when the fish will bite again.
I remember I cooked these by deep fry and they weren't fishy at all. I only ate these twice in my life and both times were amazing. Flavor was amazing and not gamey. Reminds me of white bass but just less meat. Great survival foods. These things are easy to fish and are tasty.
Get an electric knife. Lots of small filets but bone free. That's how I do it anyway. Filled a big cooler with them one day and filleted them all. Had several ice block ziplocks filled to the brim. Let me tell you they were delicious. Fried and baked. Enjoyed your video.

🪱
We loved catching and eating those in Bama growing up.
When I was a little kid in the 1990s. My mom would take me blue gill fishing. We would have a freezer full of fish
I love this channel. Thanks for telling the story's and history of people.
Looks really good! I like going fishing with my Dad or my brothers too- the day before we'll go to the supermarket & buy a load of food like sandwiches, crisps, chocolate, pop & sweets, my Dad will take a comfy fold out chair for me & a little pop up tent & a camping mattress incase I need a rest (I'm disabled with a lot of health issues & get tired very easily), take a little camping stove to make cups of tea etc & just fish for carp or pike. I'll even sometimes take my little magpie with me- he just happily sits in his little pram (a little cage on wheels which I take him out in) in the shade of the tent, suntrapping (the bird version of sunbathing) & playing with his toys & treasures. The other people around the lake find it hilarious that I take a magpie fishing with me but he loves the sunshine & fresh air. Me & my dad or my brothers will sit chatting & laughing & have a great time. I want to be able to take my baby crow too as soon as she is old enough. But it's just good to be in nature & spending time catching up coz I don't see them very often. I remember one time with my younger brother we were talking about bait & lures & the best way to attract the fish. I had a box of Froot Loops cereal that I'd ordered off a website selling American sweets & snacks (we do have Froot Loops over here in the UK but they aren't the same as the US ones because they taste pretty bland & aren't as brightly coloured due to the rules over here about sugar & additives etc). We decided to try an experiment by throwing a few Froot Loops onto the surface of the water to see if it would attract the fish & I even put one on the hook & it worked! We both caught a beautiful big carp & lots of little fish like perch etc. Was good fun. But there's something peaceful about fishing & the only thing that matters is enjoying it 💙🎣🐟
Unfortunate you keep a free bird in a cage its whole life…u should just take in wounded pets & release when they’re well instead of taking & then making a healthy animal Ill w atrophy of the mind, body and soul 😢
@@kimlarso *sigh* I'm a specialist carer for disabled corvids- birds that CANNOT be released into the wild- my little magpie is missing one of his wings & can't fly so he wouldn't survive in the wild. They aren't "kept in cages" but big enclosures & they spend most of their time out of these enclosures with me where I talk to them & play with them. My little magpie Jake is only put in his pram when I take him out. Either that or if we are going out for only a short while he either rides on my shoulder or is attatched to a glove with jesses on his anklets. Like I said I'm a specialist carer for disabled corvids- my birds are given constant attention, love & care & are constantly occupied. They aren't just kept in a cages & left to get on with it. Crappie tastes so clean!!! My favorite fish 🎣
Me too, by far.. some people love Walleye.. but for me, it doesn't get any better than croppy.
For real, they don't even need seasoning. The bones are annoying sometimes, but always good eating.
@@GLVSCOW Bones are never an issue if you know what you’re doing.
@@jl.478 I guess im just not the best at prepping them. I scale and gut, then fry the fillets or whole like the vid
Hey, them panfish are good eating, no joke.
Dude I really appreciate you producing these vids and demonstrating how to do this stuff. It's obv valuable to know but it's also fun to go do for a weekend
You just reminded me, in the summer of '76, my friend Pete and i decided to go to our hotspot. In 47 minutes we caught 43 blue gills . Good evening!
- Deep frying Crappie is good eatin` my friend. Can we get more *long* videos too please 🙏🏽?
I make fishing videos

Survival mode…. Ice and butter readily available😂
That’s what I thought, where did he got the butter from when he is surviving lol
Don't forget the survival ice in the cooler
He didn't say he was in survival mode, he said you can eat these fish that most people don't go for. Of course in a survival situation you'd be eating anything.
However, it's not crazy to think you could have a fishing rod. Do you people just walk into the woods for the no reason with no equipment?
@@AllofJudea thank you Mr. I Don’t Get A Joke Literal guy. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Nice Catch. Looks Delicious Enjoy your Blessings 🙏🏿 💯 🇨🇦 ✨️ 🌟
Bluegill are easily some of the best eating fish. Comparable only to white perch in the spring, during the run when the water is still cold. That cold water makes that meat sooo firm n sweet. 😊
Lime and salt...are necessary for a good flavor and that butter, maybe garlic and salt powder
Good video
Survival rod n reel iron skillet and butter cooler with ice. Now that’s survival
Then eating with a STICK as a fork...
He literally said if you ever find yourself in that situation... not that he's in it right now. Listen for once in your life.
Don’t forget to always have a few live mealworms in your pocket!

Butter. Pans. Ice.
Survival essentials!
@@sasquatchhimself Exactly! Fu*k the ferro rod. Bring some butter!
could bring some tallow out there for a long while
When I was a kid, I used to tie a string around my toe with a small hook and bubblegum. I'd sit on the end of our dock with my feet in the water and catch bluegill all day.
Growing up I had more fun camping and fishing than going to theme parks. Granted I’ve never liked eating fish, but I sure loved it. My daddy made sure no summer days were wasted. Such an amazing man!
Orca: Evolves for millions of years and gets called Killer Whale.
Crappy: Evolves for millions of years and gets called...
With the right seasoning that's a killer crappie
The fish looks delicious!!
I've never heard anyone say "crappy" before, we always pronounce it "croppy" in Michigan
They call them "Specs" in Florida---
@@thomasfoss9963 croppy here but I have heard specs before
We say crappy in western Pennsylvania. I always thought croppy was a southern thing for some reason
We say crappy here in Oregon

This dude really knows how to have a nice life moment...this is what a real man calls fun and adventure❤✌🏽
Man, if the apocalypse happens, this guy will survive forever
Thanks man this helps
We caught Crappie and Bluegills back in Indiana when I was a boy. Cooked and ate every single one of them.
Cool story bro but let me call my friend whose an expert in cool stories 😅😎
I also pronounce Crappie like you, but it happens to be my favorite tasting fish of all time. It’s for sure the best freshwater fish to eat
Nah-- Once you eat some fresh Bluegills, and Perch thru the ice, you'll forget all about crappies!!!!
@@thomasfoss9963blue gills are good just a lot smaller so that’s one reason I prefer Crappie. Never had seen perch caught where I’ve fished. Probably up north
Back in 96 me and my buddies did this challenge... You can also catch bullfrogs at night with worms. Dangle worm right above frogs... Miss them days
Definitely a favorite in the southeast Asian countries.. my family love fishing for crappies and bluegills.. tasty and fun to fish for sure. Thank you for sharing
Never thought I would hear crappie and good in the same sentence :)
We pronounce it "Croppy" fish.
Bluegills and perch are definitely the best eating panfish-- Crappies are a distant third----
@@thomasfoss9963 Crappie are better than both in every way. To say anything else is pure delusion.
"Crawppee"
@@jl.478 now that was mature... how old are you?
Damn, I thought you liked the fish but you called it crappy
Better than saying “croppy” like some dumbass.
My uncle used to fish and my aunt would clean the fish. They hosted family fish fry dinners!! Your video reminds me of them!! The fish looks delicious! ❤
I haven't had freshwater fish since I moved to Florida 33 years ago. Watching this video surely makes me want some again😊
😮33 years?!!! Get to it brother!
Blue gill are yummy
I love fishing!! Great pass time/ great sport, very relaxing and can be exciting. Crappie, yummmm!! Good eating!🐟🐠😊❤
This is Tom Bodett... we'll leave a light on for you!
That's the most wholesome fishing trip for a dad and son !
I loved catching blue gill & crappies with my grandma when I was growing up. She’ll be 91 in a month, I should take her & my son fishing. 😊
When you’re in a survival situation and you’ve got your fishing rod, cast iron skillet, your knife, and butter etc.😂😂
At age 12, I enjoyed brown trout in the Salmon River country-one of the best meals I ever ate!
my grand daddy would catch those guys so good brings back some good memories, i got my first old fashion fishing for crappie's with a lady friend good memories i'll never forget that old fashion for sure
I remember a weekend day of fishing with my father when we caught a whole cooler full of bluegill and cooked it up at home. It was over a decade ago, and I still fully remember that day, those are the best memories:)
I love fishing but I got tendonitis from working so it’s hard for me to cast my fishing line now. I wish there’s another way but thanks for sharing your catch ♥️😊👍♥️
I enjoy the simplicity of your videos 😊
Fresh water field days! Good shit bro!!
This is what my springs and summers are all about in Ohio.
Crappie in my opinion is comparable to yellow tail snapper, absolutely delicious
The icing on the cake? His fish have learned to 'play possum' as soon as he catches them - genius!! 😂
Looks delicious, man!!
It's 3:30 am and I'm hungry 😋
My nanna always called those spots, we always catch and eat them in NC. This was such a nostalgic watch ❤
I grew up winning fishing competitions at our campground. Bluegill and Crappie the best eating fish ever! If filleted not scaled. I could never manage to kill the poor things, so I'm almost 60 and still starving...😅
So I haven't fished in decades, but you have to be the first person to pronounce Crappie like this.
This is the best friendly UA-camr ever
Good to see you cooking them without trying to fillet them. A lot of meat is wasted in the process of filleting small fish like this. Great job
The man says if you're in survival situation this is a good idea to do sure if you have a pan a fishing pole some bait then sure yeah I'm pretty sure anybody could probably survive and I almost forgot butter and salt. 😅😂🤣
I'm so glad you pronounce crappie the right way.
I love fishing then frying the fresh fish on an open fire!! Delicious!!❤❤😅
Crappie has 2 pronunciations. It can rhyme with poppy, or as he said it. It's also called the white perch in louisiana, & is their state fish. Louisianans usually say the poppy pronounciation. In case anyone is curious.
That is the best tasting fish on the planet. Big ups from Louisiana- we eat a lot of fish
We call them "croppie" and they're delicious! We caught several before our tank dried up one year, and ended up keeping the largest as a pet in our fish tank! 😄 It ate all our guppies, and we fed it worms. Named him "fat fishy" 😊
So refreshing to see the entire fish remain whole from water to pan.
Thank U for showing us nearly the whole process ❤
Fresh caught fish tastes so much better than store bought...
I used to fish at Lakeside Park in Dallas when I was young and catch blue gill and bass...
That was some good eatin'
When you're in a survival situation and the fish are biting, keep catching till they stop biting. Then cook what you'll eat and preserve what you won't. Who knows when the fish will bite again.
Dad used to take me perch jerkin and guess they were crappie idk but boy good memories! Thanks for this! You could even crunch on the fins!
So envious of the many lakes and ponds with fish near ya
I remember I cooked these by deep fry and they weren't fishy at all. I only ate these twice in my life and both times were amazing. Flavor was amazing and not gamey. Reminds me of white bass but just less meat. Great survival foods. These things are easy to fish and are tasty.
Get an electric knife. Lots of small filets but bone free. That's how I do it anyway. Filled a big cooler with them one day and filleted them all. Had several ice block ziplocks filled to the brim. Let me tell you they were delicious. Fried and baked. Enjoyed your video.
This guy is not playing. He's saving that money at another level 😂
