This was Conway's last recording Ever, April 1993 he was gone July. The man had an unreal way with a lyric. Love Sam on this too. As for Brook Benton-another WTF omission from the Rock Hall.
This was shortly before he died. We lost such a great talent. He is in my top five of Country music artists. His first hit was a rock song. It's Only Make Believe-1960. Great reaction Harri. I love how this made you smile.
This was recorded 3 weeks before Conway passed in 1993...it was part of a special album of duets of country and r&b/soul singers...I have the cassette tape of this record somewhere, it was my Dad's he was a big Conway Twitty fan....✌🏻🇺🇸
@@ivansavoie3190 You're correct. Carl wrote & recorded Blue Sued Shoes 1st (released Jan 1956). #2 on Cash Box chart & charted for 16 weeks. Elvis recorded it Jan 56, & sung it on TV soon after, but didn't release a single till Sep. 56. According to Scotty Moore & apparently confirmed by Sam Phillips, Elvis was reluctant to cover it, because he didn't want to harm Carl's sales, so RCA agreed to include it on his album, but hold off on his single release till Carl's version wasn't charting.
@@wnsafford1854 Carl Perkins got in an auto or motorcycle accident which sort of halted his career for a bit. Can't remember exact details it's been a lot of years since I heard about it. I'm sure it can be researched. Also supposedly Johnny Cash gave Carl Perkins the idea for the song. Thank you for your responding
Conway was 59 when he passed from an abdominal aortic aneurysm. We saw him at Branson the year before and put on an incredible show. He was definitely one of the greats
Conway died right here in Springfield, Missouri. He had performed the night before in Branson, and was rushed to the hospital when he collapsed on his tour bus. He died from an abdominal aortic aneurysm.
i saw conway live back in the 1980s. what a great singer and performer. whether you do a reaction to it or not, you should check out the original written by tony joe white. he also wrote polk salad annie that elvis and others covered. i really like your videos harri. you are so respectful to the performers and are really moved by the emotion in the songs.
Also Harri Conway Twitty was a great man, after each performance he would greet the fans, I got to see him four times once with Loretta Lynn, shook his hand and got his autograph each time.
I thought that only Brooke Benton could do Justice to this beautiful song - Conway & Sam are absolutely MAGIC 💎💜 Another beautiful duet you should check out is honouring Al Green (2014) at Kennedy Center ‘Take Me to the River’ done by Mavis Staples & Sam Moore 💎🥰 Al Green loved it !
Don Was produced this classic album based on his belief that Country and R&B were very closely related. He said if one could take the very relatable lyrics of country and add the true gut feel of soul then you may make a monster record! I used to play it in my car with the windows down. People would ask me at stoplights about the disc that was playing. It really happened multiple times. RYTHEM COUNTRY & BLUES was the name of the album. Many songs by a country and soul artist that were as good as this one.
This was the biggest hit to come off of the "Rhythm, Country and Blues" album from 1994. This was an album which paired up a country music artist with a blues or pop artist. There were some interesting pairings on this album like Natalie Cole and Reba McIntire, George Jones and B.B. King, Vince Gill and Gladys Knight, and Marty Stuart and the Staple Singers. A great album.
My favorite duet of Conway Twitty’s is the hilarious one with Loretta Lynn called “You’re the Reason Our Kids are Ugly”. This is a wonderful rendition of this great song. Great choice! 🌺✌️
I recorded this video off of tv in the eighties and still have it today, along with thousands of hours of other music. Thank you for letting me sit in with you again today Harri, this is such a great song and seeing your smile throughout was perfection!
You can be forgiven for not knowing that Conway Twitty was a Rock & Roll singer in the late 50's and early 60's before he switched to Country Music in the mid 1960's. Many of his songs from this period are very similar to Elvis Presley's style. His most famous song from this era is "It's Only Make Believe" although I really like a song called "I'd Still Play the Fool".
Great reaction Harri, as usual. The first thing that stands out in this classic cover is Twitty's voice For all those country music haters ,take a lesson. This guy has SOUL . The album is called Rhythm, Country and Blues. It's of course a collection of duets with various Country ,R&B and Blues artists. A MUST listen ! :) Peace and love.
Harri... now that you’ve broken the ice, please dont stop!! I have been waiting for a reviewer to discover this absolutely beautiful album for years now! Its called Rythym, Country, and Blues. Country artists, teemed with R&B artists, doing classic songs from both genres. A few of my personal faves are Travis Tritt and Patti LaBelle doing When some thing is wrong with my baby, and Aaron Neville with Trisha Yearwood on I Fall to Pieces. Really not a bad song on that entire album.
I have been trying for over a year now to get one of theses reviewers to do songs off that album. My only guess is the copyright pissing matches amongst the record companies, because it caused a few problems when it was first released, as to who owned rights to songs and artists. Absolutely beautiful music on it though.
Nice rendition. But I love Brook Benton's release. His voice is captivating. So deep and gravelly and saturated with emotions. Great reaction Harri. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
I looked this up for you. Conway put everything he had into a song. This is one of his best. I was watching the night he performed this on a live country music awards show. He got a standing ovation from country's best that night. ua-cam.com/video/8BZqs6MVHOY/v-deo.html
This song with Conway and Sam is like the perfect marriage between country and soul!
This was Conway's last recording Ever, April 1993 he was gone July. The man had an unreal way with a lyric. Love Sam on this too. As for Brook Benton-another WTF omission from the Rock Hall.
This was beautiful... thank you Harri
Sam’s phrasing is extraordinary.
Fantastic stuff!
This was shortly before he died. We lost such a great talent. He is in my top five of Country music artists. His first hit was a rock song. It's Only Make Believe-1960. Great reaction Harri. I love how this made you smile.
I was going to say that Conway was most famed for me as an early exponent of Rock and roll singing
A vocal masterclass from two greats♥️♥️♥️♥️
My favorite country singer all time
This was recorded 3 weeks before Conway passed in 1993...it was part of a special album of duets of country and r&b/soul singers...I have the cassette tape of this record somewhere, it was my Dad's he was a big Conway Twitty fan....✌🏻🇺🇸
Chills
This whole album by various artists is great
My absolute favorite. Conway and Sam Moore. Chills.
Conway Twitty did Rock and Roll in the fifties, great reaction as always.youre one of the best
@B Gallagher pretty sure song writer Carl Perkins was the first then Elvis shortly after.

@B Gallagher my brother once had a bumper sticker which read, All the things I've lost in life I miss my mind the most.
Lonely blue boy is one of my favorites from Conway
That growl just makes me melt
I love conway. When he passed it was worse than when elvis died. Listen to..if you were mine to lose.
Conway was 59 when he passed from an abdominal aortic aneurysm. We saw him at Branson the year before and put on an incredible show. He was definitely one of the greats

I've been trying to get people to react to this song forever I love it

Aw yes, Sam Moore
Country music back then had a lot of soul. Soul and country were closely related. Music has changed so much. These men were smooth.
I met Conway in Nashville at the first Fan Fair. I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when I heard that he had died. Very sad day.
Also Harri Conway Twitty was a great man, after each performance he would greet the fans, I got to see him four times once with Loretta Lynn, shook his hand and got his autograph each time.
Amazing rendition
Stumbled across this some years ago. Loved it then and now. Absolute magic.
This was on an album featuring country and R&B artists. Great album!
I remember hearing this for the first time. My reaction was quite like yours. Never gets old.
This is fabulous! Thank you!
I thought that only Brooke Benton could do Justice to this beautiful song - Conway & Sam are absolutely MAGIC 💎💜
Another beautiful duet you should check out is honouring Al Green (2014) at Kennedy Center ‘Take Me to the River’ done by Mavis Staples & Sam Moore 💎🥰 Al Green loved it !
Listen to Tony Joe White's original it's quite good
Great duo together
Conway didn't start country in the 50's. Conway passed from a stomach aneurysm.
This was recorded in the 1990's (I believe 1993, only weeks before Conway Twitty passed away)
Don Was produced this classic album based on his belief that Country and R&B were very closely related. Patti Labelle and Travis Tritt (something is wrong with my baby)
Al Green and Lyle Lovett (funny how time slips away) just beautiful performances!
My favorite duet of Conway Twitty’s is the hilarious one with Loretta Lynn called “You’re the Reason Our Kids are Ugly”. This is a wonderful rendition of this great song. Great choice! 🌺✌️

Conway was Rock for 10 years before switching to Country
Conway is all soul whatever the tune
The year was 1993, released1994 and was Conway's last recording.
This was off a CD that I have called Rhythm Country and Blues. It has some great duets on it. Thanks Harri.

From this same album/CD...try Al Green and Lyle Lovett. Ain't it Funny How Time Slips Away. Wonderful collaboration.
I agree! Funny How Time Slips Away is my favorite song on that album.

Harold Jenkins was Conway's original name. More music under that name.
There is a whole album of R+B and Country singers doing duets. My favorite is BB King and George Jones doing Patches. Album Country Rythm and Blues.
Fantastic album!

I grew up listening to Hank Williams Jr's version of this song. Fantastic.
Nice rendition. But I love Brook Benton's release. His voice is captivating. So deep and gravelly and saturated with emotions. Great reaction Harri. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
CONWAY'S last song
He sang rock n roll when elvis was coming up. Listen to...only make believe
Conway Twitty-real name -Harold Jenkins
Conway and Sam of (Sam & Dave )
The original is by Tony Joe White, who wrote it.
that was Conways last recording he died very soon after with an aneurism in his stomach
any genre of music can contain "soul" imo. soul is an emotion not a technical musical tone. it's hard to describe but you know it when you hear it.
I like Conway's rock song Lonely Blue Boy late 50s
Conway Twitty's real name was Harold Jenkins.
I don't know if you know that conway used to sing rock and roll
Sam sang alot of great songs under the name Sam and Dave
I looked this up for you. Conway put everything he had into a song. This is one of his best. I was watching the night he performed this on a live country music awards show. He got a standing ovation from country's best that night.
ua-cam.com/video/8BZqs6MVHOY/v-deo.html
He died from an abdominal aneurysm.
Believe that is Tony Joe White playing piano.
it was in 1993 that conway died
Written by Tony Joe White of Polk Salad Annie fame
Special request please spin P.P ARNOLD. LETTER TO BILL
The original is by Tony joe White.
1993
No to Mr. Conway, never liked this Rock & Roll reject.. I would love to mess up that hair.. Love Mr. Sam from Sam & Dave.. ♠W.G.
