This portal in diamond dimension reminds me about portal to dark forest (I'm not sure if this right, because I forgot name of this dimension) from mod, where you do exactly this, but in 2X2 hole you need to add water, and then you need to drop diamond in water (don't try in regular Minecraft, because it's mod)
