Like a ghost town. RIP Global Agenda, if only you had been given more love and had a team that didn't make dumb business decisions like Hi-Rez. Maybe someday you will come back and deliver in full.

Good stuff. Yet another nostalgic run past an old favorite game. I think this game still has the most play hours on my steam somehow...glad to see I wasn't the only one! I was addicted to the pvp. It was great, and not even AvA. Pick up matches were all I needed.
Oh the memories! It had one of the best engineer specialized class, with turrets and drones. It was a great game, sadly it died off. It sucks that such a good game hit rock bottom.
Why did Global Agenda fail? Because Hi-Rez jumped on the money train and banked fully on the MOBA crowd. Smart business decision, maybe, but they burned their bridges hard with Global Agenda and Tribes Ascend players. I have not seriously played any Hi-Rez game for more then an hour since they abandoned Global Agenda. I simply do not trust this company to run a game I might actually like, because twice already they've dropped a game liked by many, the moment something more profitable turned up.
A bit off topic for the video subject itself, but I really enjoy going back and watching your older videos. Gives me the confidence to start my videos again. Reminds me everyone started somewhere and no one knows how they’ll progress.
Global Agenda - check, abandoned soon after Tribes: Ascend released Tribes: Ascend - check, abandoned soon after Smite released Smite - still alive, but with Paladins out, days are likely numbered if history tells us anything Paladins - the new shiny that will distract HiRez from everything
Not 100% sure. Hi-Rez is starting up Season 4 with a Celtic Pantheon and is making two spin off games for Smite (one a Mobile game and a Hearthstone-like card game). They are probably milking Smite for all its moneys worth before finally jumping ship.
So it may just take them a little longer, but Paladins is also new... GA had support when Tribes was still new and Tribes had support when Smite was new, that support just vanished within a few months.
Maybe, but there's a famous idiom, "Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me." When the forums were still up for Global Agenda, the devs posted promises to continue support and then they totally abandoned their promise. The support for Tribes lasted longer into their new game's life than support for GA, but was still cut. While I can see scenarios where Smite retains support, I've seen HiRez chase the flavor of the month enough to lose faith in their willingness to support their titles after the craze wears off. Smite might be their exception due to it's popularity in eSports, but if Paladins doesn't become an eSports darling, mark my words - they'll drop it as soon as the next craze starts. I have no complaints about their games - I loved GA, I loved Tribes: Ascend (even if it was a dumbing down of the franchise, though less than Tribe 3), and I even enjoyed the bit of Smite that I played when it was still in beta. HiRez makes very fun games, it's how they handle their games when they start getting less attention that has put me off. I'll also be completely honest - Paladins pissed me off since HiRez kept sending out surveys to former GA players to find out what they wanted for Global Agenda 2 and they all but publicly announced that they were going to make GA2, then they came out and stated they were cancelling it to work on Paladins. The "Outpost" map for Paladins is a remake of a GA map, likely assets that they were originally developing for GA2 that were then reskinned to make a "me-too" character-based shooter rather than the class-based hybrid shooter that GA2 would have been.
I remember finding this game late night one day around 2011. Played it all night and most of the next day loving it, then never touched it again. Was the quickest I've ever gone from loving an MMO to not caring anymore.
acheron16 TOTALLY agree. I remember watching the CGI Cutscene and thinking that it was going to be one of the best games ever. It was SO hyped up they even made a tie in novel...it hurts just to see how terribly average that game was haha.
I don't think Hellgate was an MMO, wasn't it? Anyway, I still remember how I felt after buying that hot mess. Marksman was easily the best class, since it played like bad shooter instead of a clunky 3rd-person hack&slash.
Was easier to play as a hack and slash though. The game was built with online play in mind, and if you didn't pay a subscription fee, you could only have three characters in the online component, and many restrictions. Subscribed players also got access to features non-subbed players didn't. It was a hot mess. I had it when it was new, and I was never, EVER able to connect to the servers, from day one until it died and the servers were shut down. Basically you got punished for not paying more money for a game you physically bought a copy of.
I remember randomly finding this game on steam....and fell in love with it. Sure, it wasn't perfect but if it came back with some love - it would be even better today. MedicLyfe!
I played this game with my friend even with all the crashing i had it was one of the best mmorpg's i've ever played both pvp and pve were amazing it was lacking in the open world section but it was so much fun ! It's so sad hi-rez left it die.
FUCK ME i remember that game .... even played competitve back in the days. i sometimes miss my longbow assault, was always fun artillery striking the crap out of cap zones :) p.s. i'll never forgive CzekMix for double nuking our dropship EVERY single time we fought them in AvA-.-
I loved global agenda played it way after they closed but left the servers up until last year when those finally shut down. It was so weird the only people who were on it just sat around the dome dancing and talking for hours up hours. Kinda spooky
I remember being in one of those mega alliance on my server. We won of the smaller mega and did not win. There was 2 mega alliance on my server that almost aways one. So they had a ton of special elite mechs and toys to spawn on any map they needed to push for victory. Yeah the rewarding more power toys to use in next season did break the AvA. I hope they do a AG2 and do it right this time.
Colm Murphy Hi Rez updated Tribes a while back in an attempt to revive it actually. I went back and it had full servers. I don't know how it is now then.
Hi-rez have a really, really bad habit of abandoning games the moment they release a new one. Global Agenda was ditched when Tribes came out, Tribes was ditched when Smite came out and now Paladins is out a lot of the Smite community are getting worried.
I doubt HiRez will get rid of their golden goose so soon. They also just anounced the release of a new pantheon (the Celtic one) so I'm not personally worried.
i played this game last year btw lol. the severs are not always up and it can take 20 minutes of failed logins before you finally get in but when the servers are up theres normally enough players to play some of the pve content like ultramax(4 players vs ai)
Story of Firefall would make a good video. A really good shooter MMO killed by the dev management (technically it's still functioning ,but practically it's dead). The shady scandals and mind boggling decisions would make an interesting material.
this game reminds me of another sci-fi game that is completely dead. Dust 514. A First person shooter MMO with very little connectivity to eve online. Man i loved that game so much. Hey nerdSlayer, can you give Dust 514 a look? theres tons of gameplay footage of it on the you tubes.
oh, I was big into this game when it came out to the point I did some special testing for hi-rez, till they killed the game and did not listen to us testers... Heh, I beta tested the dome map in the recursive colony. Edit: I do remember AvA being extremely rough, as the once leader of Vortex, it made the game quite stressful... I eventually did join the best alliance towards the end (I was on the C team lol...) I have fond memories of the game and friendships to this day from the game. Great video overall, agree with basically all points in the video.
Let me clear things up a bit. Global Agenda died the moment that its Agency vs. Agency mode was denied esports potential and largely ignored by the esports community. The company founder and co-owner, Erez, began making games with the specific goal of creating an esport. When Global Agenda failed to hit the mark, he ditched the project in favor of Tribes: Ascend. When that failed to catch the attention he wanted it was left in the dark same as GA. Then SMITE happened. SMITE's esport success is the only reason for its survival. Now that Erez has his golden goose, you'll see spin-off titles crop up around SMITE. As for Paladins: this is another attempt by Erez to use pieces from SMITE to create a successful esports shooter--a shooter esport being his original dream/goal. Once Paladins dies (or becomes forgotten altogether) you'll see yet another attempt by Erez to create another esport shooter.
Hey nerdSlayer, Are you going to do a video for Auto Assault? Still one of, if not, my favourite MMO that was ever released, but it had such a short lifespan I think many people have forgotten about it. Would love to see your take on the game.
Holy shit man how do you even remember that game? That was so long ago and so short lived. I remember it, but I found it boring as all hell personally. Then again I never liked vehicle combat, so I'm biased. I still remember me, my brother, my friend and my dad being SUPER hyped for it. Then quitting within about a week or two.
I'm a huge fan of vehicle combat so it was a bit different for me, heh. The big thing for me was customisation of the vehicles. I ended up maining the Mutant Champion, had the tank chassis and it was pimped up with spine and bone spike kits. Looked so boss.
Global Agenda took a hit when Tribes Ascension came out, and then took another hit when Planetside 2 came out. 2012 was not a good year for GA, but i had some great times on it. Tribes Ascension had the fancy graphics and a solid pedigree for lovers of jetpack combat. Planetside 2 actually delivered on the MMO aspects, and also would have drawn away players. I know this for a fact as back in the home base dome in Global Agenda we would talk about the upcoming Planetside 2 in global chat. And everyone was pretty stoked for it, and most global agenda fans were fans of planetside 1.

I did some digging in my Steam account a few weeks ago and successfully loaded the live client. The servers are still running and all of my characters were still around but, unsurprisingly, I was the only player. I'd played from early pre-alpha to just after launch and watching its evolution from a textureless landscape to live gave no hints as to the game's eventual direction; thanks for the rundown on how GA got to where it is today.
Alright, small correction: Paladins was in development prior to Overwatch. Are they chasing trends? Maybe. But they certainly did not copy Blizzard's already very unoriginal idea.
Of course all they do is chase trends. Their latest game, Realm Royale is a rip off of Fortnite. I prefer HiRez's gameplay though. Overwatch & Fortnite are both extremely shallow when compared to HiRez's already shallow gameplay. Paladins has the load out mechanic which helps keep the game fresh unlike Overwatch where most characters only have 1 optimal way to play.
This game was a wild card, but I was so amazingly awesome and different. It offered us variety when all we had was WoW and so many other WoW clones. This game is still showing after you do a search in Steams library. As soon as you click on it you are taken back to the home screen. The game is truly dead and it's so sad I really love this game. It had that feel of dare I say it Star Wars, in A New Hope it introduced us to a new world and so did Global Agenda.
If you're going to give healers versatility, then you need to give ALL classes that, you can't give one class the ability to do many things very good, then other classes are forced into one role. And the biggest misstake was to give healers the abiltiy to kill any other class 1v1 at any range. Healers are... healers and support with buffs. If you want to dps, you roll a dps. I don't roll a dps and then cry about not being able to heal do i ?.
Just, I don't understand it... If you have a game based almost entirely on Player vs. Player, or if PvP is a primary draw for a portion of the audience, just put a Ranked system in there. Most players won't really care, but some people will throw themselves at the chance to be the undisputed best, and even without any other reward will keep those players active.
Hey everyone, thanks for watching my video and my video series. I have sky-rocketed from 500 subs in 3 months to 11,000. Can't thank you guys enough for the support. Here is a strawpoll where you can vote on my next video idea! www.strawpoll.me/12199399
to our knowledge no, but it was in development BEFORE Overwatch was even announced so you can't really say Hi-Rez was following the Overwatch craze either Paladins originally was going to be Global Agenda 2 as well
You are just objectively incorrect. Overwatch is Project Titan, as confirmed by Blizzard. Project Titan has been a known thing since 2007. These 2 facts completely undermine your narrative. Also, come on man, Hirez has literally is never innovative. They have had to pull skins from Smite because of copyright issues from companies they have copied 2 times just off of my head.
Paladins was a completely different type of game (much more MOBA esque, like BattleBorn) until about a month after Overwatch launched... Then it suspiciously got higher movement speeds, smaller maps, and a focus on more arena shooter-like combat. Then they did Paladins BR... that just proved to me that they were all about dat low hanging fruit
Can't emphasize this enough. People always point out that Paladins was in development before Overwatch's announcement, but never mention that it was almost a completely different game until Overwatch.
This game dying made me really sad, me and my cousin grew up playing this we were around 12 or so and had such a good time, and then we moved onto APB which also died. Even if they weren't the best games, the fun we had on them was irreplaceable.
It's immensely ironic that this same company later went on to make a game with elves... :P

It's NOT DEAD right now, never will be
I really really like this series, keep up the good work!
Artorius Never touched one of their games after Tribes. I cant trust them just like EA.
true
I played tribes ascend and dropped anything made by Hi-Rez after they killed it.
A bit off topic for the video subject itself, but I really enjoy going back and watching your older videos. Gives me the confidence to start my videos again. Reminds me everyone started somewhere and no one knows how they’ll progress.
Keep at it bro
I hear hi Rez abandons a lot of its games
Global Agenda - check, abandoned soon after Tribes: Ascend released
Tribes: Ascend - check, abandoned soon after Smite released
Smite - still alive, but with Paladins out, days are likely numbered if history tells us anything
Paladins - the new shiny that will distract HiRez from everything
Not 100% sure. Hi-Rez is starting up Season 4 with a Celtic Pantheon and is making two spin off games for Smite (one a Mobile game and a Hearthstone-like card game).
They are probably milking Smite for all its moneys worth before finally jumping ship.
So it may just take them a little longer, but Paladins is also new... GA had support when Tribes was still new and Tribes had support when Smite was new, that support just vanished within a few months.
But it's been seven months, and the Smite World Championship just happened. I don't think they'll abandon Smite for a few years.
Maybe, but there's a famous idiom, "Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me."
When the forums were still up for Global Agenda, the devs posted promises to continue support and then they totally abandoned their promise.
I still get E-Mails from the game that I should come back and play. After 6 years :D
I am addicted to watching these! Subbed and can't wait for new ones!
Have you done one on Hellgate London yet? If not, that might be a good one! Great work on this video!
Wakasaurus Rex He hasn't done it yet, no
acheron16 TOTALLY agree. I remember watching the CGI Cutscene and thinking that it was going to be one of the best games ever. It was SO hyped up they even made a tie in novel...it hurts just to see how terribly average that game was haha.
The cutscenes were the best I've ever seen....they shouldve spent less time on cutscenes and more time on the game
Basically you got punished for not paying more money for a game you physically bought a copy of.
stumbled across this vid in my recommendations. thnx for reminding me that this game existed. i miss it very much
Servers are back up.
Eat the nanites.
*Bancroft Subprime*
Really enjoy a semblance of investigation journalism in gaming. Great content
the game is back on steam
I remember randomly finding this game on steam....and fell in love with it. Sure, it wasn't perfect but if it came back with some love - it would be even better today. MedicLyfe!
I played this game with my friend even with all the crashing i had it was one of the best mmorpg's i've ever played both pvp and pve were amazing it was lacking in the open world section but it was so much fun ! It's so sad hi-rez left it die.
man this is some srrsly high quality content, keep up the good work man :)
Ahhh I remember GA, one of the best pvp experiences I've ever had until my agency fell apart.
i really love these death of games videos you should keep going! got excited and was actually hoping there were more before i checked lol ^.^
FUCK ME i remember that game .... even played competitve back in the days.
i sometimes miss my longbow assault, was always fun artillery striking the crap out of cap zones :)
p.s. i'll never forgive CzekMix for double nuking our dropship EVERY single time we fought them in AvA-.-
Found this by searching for our old AVA videos. Have some life long friends from this game. Miss it! Great video!
Their biggest and most stupid sin was having voiced ads.
Great video. I remember the commercials being pretty interesting and that they poked fun at standard MMO tropes.
Played this game, miss this game. The PvP was fun while it lasted.
I have found your MMO post mortems to be thoroughly enjoyable with interesting insights.
do one on super monday night combat please, i loved that game
I loved global agenda played it way after they closed but left the servers up until last year when those finally shut down. It was so weird the only people who were on it just sat around the dome dancing and talking for hours up hours. Kinda spooky
Still waiting for the open zone "Commonwealth City"
Rest in Peace the most coolest game of the world....RIP AgendaS , RIP DOME DEFENSE and Sonoran Raid , RIP GLOBAL AGENDA....Its beeing cool
If they do it at all :(
yes. Hehe rewatching your videos. I do enjoy your videos. :)
I miss this game so much man, made my childhood
Thanks for this video man.
Speaking of Hi-Rez... Ever think about doing a video like this for Tribes: Ascend?
Colm Murphy That would be cool
Yeah that would be great, also fuck HiRez
Ah, I rember having lots of fun in this game...
All time favorite video game. Still raw about how it ended.
Story of Firefall would make a good video. A really good shooter MMO killed by the dev management (technically it's still functioning ,but practically it's dead). The shady scandals and mind boggling decisions would make an interesting material.
firefall was really boring to me i got maybe an hour before getting bored of it
very underrated series on youtube subbing just for this.
this game reminds me of another sci-fi game that is completely dead.
Graphics and gameplay remind me of ME1. This game looks like it had potential.
Robert Frisburough I just noticed that
He was playing it on very low graphics.. The graphics on Global Agenda are still very good for todays standards..
It definitely did, it had a great atmosphere and aesthetics.
It really did have a lot of potential, it was an absolute blast in 2011 before the abandonment at the end of the year.
Thats becasue both were running Unreal for engines.
Thank you for content. mate. Good to look back, the time of youth =) You definitely need to cover the death of Tabula Rasa and Auto Assault.
I love this new series! I feel like Tabula Rasa deserves a video ;)
Could you do City of Heroes?
I really like your content dude, keep it up :)
Hey nerdSlayer, Are you going to do a video for Auto Assault?
Still one of, if not, my favourite MMO that was ever released, but it had such a short lifespan I think many people have forgotten about it. Would love to see your take on the game.
DJBaggins you should join the discord and tell him to do that game
Might just do that, thanks for the heads up
DJBaggins ;) and join in on the other conversations
Great news guys. I have partnered with RØDE Microphones, which means I will have a brand-new microphone (NT-1) to start doing my next videos. I will likely do one more video without my new microphone depending on when the product is shipped to me. I will have a high-quality sound especially made for things like voice-overs and commentary. My quality should sky-rocket. Please thank RØDE Microphones for me and if you are interested in buying a USB or XLR format microphone please check out their website thanks! www.rode.com/microphones/all
I did some digging in my Steam account a few weeks ago and successfully loaded the live client.
Maybe. But they certainly did not copy Blizzard's already very unoriginal idea.
both games copied team fortress, and smite copied blizzard aswell, just watch the abilities, they are just a copy
@@BoozeAholic you sir, are completely right.
@Robertson Thirdly paladins, ty for the correction
@@1TZAH why they must take from blizzard games their is nothing originallity at all
This game was a wild card, but I was so amazingly awesome and different.
My problems with the game.
1) Healers did WAY too much dmg.
2) Autorifles could out-dps sniper on long distances due to high accuracy.
Dreez76 My problem: no poofballs
A pure healing build did like no damage. They could hold their own at times.
129das it didnt have elves, it didnt have poof balls, and it didnt outlast warcraft? concidence? i think not!
@@Dreez76 You sir, got wrecked and I only got to witness it a whole year after it occured lmao.
really high quality video, can't beielive you have so few subs
Just, I don't understand it... If you have a game based almost entirely on Player vs. Player, or if PvP is a primary draw for a portion of the audience, just put a Ranked system in there. Most players won't really care, but some people will throw themselves at the chance to be the undisputed best, and even without any other reward will keep those players active.
love these death of a game videos
greeat vid, i'd really love to see city of hereoes!
Hey everyone, thanks for watching my video and my video series. I have sky-rocketed from 500 subs in 3 months to 11,000. Can't thank you guys enough for the support. Here is a strawpoll where you can vote on my next video idea! www.strawpoll.me/12199399
Lol you did all the options anyway
Wasn't Paladins in development before Overwatch?
You mean Project Titan?
to our knowledge no, but it was in development BEFORE Overwatch was even announced so you can't really say Hi-Rez was following the Overwatch craze either
Paladins originally was going to be Global Agenda 2 as well
You are just objectively incorrect.
Even if they weren't the best games, the fun we had on them was irreplaceable.
ambition without clear goals best way to describe this game. Also like never updated. Damit Hi Res,
loving this series
I rather ride on a giant frog than a jet pack
im loving these videos
