  • In July 2023, Ukraine and several other countries formed a so-called F-16 coalition. The coalition is led by the United States, Denmark, and the Netherlands.
The coalition is working on the transfer of aircraft, training of pilots and maintenance personnel, and preparation of infrastructure. United24 Media travelled to Denmark to meet the Ukrainian pilots who were selected for this great responsibility, and to see how training on the worlds most popular fighter jet is going.

Yeah I considered that but why show so much of their features, not sure how good facial recognition is but it wouldn't surprise me if it could at least get partial matches on head and eyes. Having said all this Ukrainian intelligence service is top notch so they know best.

The problem will be it's lifecycle... combat strains the structure, there's a reason why UKR didn't take the Aussie's decom F-18s. At least it's not as worn down... but they will need to shop for new jets in the near future, at least most planes not from the former commies and commies aligned have a similar architecture and “language”.

@@PrograError It is not so much the maintenance, that can be taken care of, even if it means changing parts as they become worn out until you have a de facto new plane. It is much more a question of how many new and future "gadgets" to can press into a palne designed many decades ago. The F16s currently being donated are are world calls for 2024 and will do fine in 2025 and 2026 too, but in the coming decades has no chance vs the F35 generation. I can't think of a better finale for the splendid F 16 design than to save Ukaine!

The F16 is on par with the MiG 29, only the F16 has been upgraded with radars and more modern missiles, and they are far worse than Russian modern planes, all the F16s will be destroyed very quickly, because they don't have even the slightest chance..be realistic, just look and see. real situation

I agree but this comment is going to anger so many butthurt bots lol. I'm here for the ride haha. But it's true, Russia has aircraft with better radars and they have a missile with better range however given that they havnt really done shit in Ukraine it's just smoke and mirrors. The F-16 has way better air to ground capabilities because most russian jets don't even have targeting pods and the glide bombs they do drop are very inaccurate and crude design which often malfunction but F-16s munitions like the SDBs and JSOW are extremely accurate like all NATO munitions just because of a standard which should be achieved and is achieved. Also the AMRAAM is better than russian long range missiles.

Tell me whyTurkey wants S400 as a Nato member? We have more than 250 F16 and pilots are trained but we want F35 why? We want our own 5Th generation fighter jet why? Why Turkish nato pilots couldn't fly over Syria against Russian air defence with F16 when we shot down Russian Mig 25 near Syria Turkish border. Why Nato countries want to buy 5 th generation fighter jet after the war against Russian threat and sending F16 to Ukraine?

Training has gone much slower, and the washout rate has been higher than normal with the Ukrainians, as they don't really seem up to the task of jumping into a modern fighter. The Romanians did much better.

      @@donwyoming1936 normally, I’d agree…
But I have to say, considering what I’ve seen of the Russian air defense network around the front and Crimea, and with the second A-50 taken out, and so likely ensuring those aircraft will give the front a wide berth, I think KISS simple SEAD operations can still do enough damage to clear the front lines and much of Crimea for more aggressive Ukraine air operations while giving the troops a break from the pounding they been taking from Russian air as well as put further range limits on their air launched missiles.
They don’t need to clear a path to and around Moscow, Murmansk, or airbases for bombers to perform a strike. Just push the front line air defense envelope far enough back to keep Russian air-to-ground attack aircraft and fighters from being protected when they are within their weapons range of the front lines. Beyond Black Sea operations, Russian aircraft dont venture much outside that envelope.
I think the Ukrainians, with abbreviated mission specific training as well as planning and intelligence assistance from NATO, Operation “Hey Look, Your Shoes Untied” could succeed.
A synoptic attack with MiGs as high bait and SCALP launchers, F-16’s burning in low (No A-50’s to see them) and popping up to launch HARM’s as close as practical when the radars , and drones for live battle damage assessment and (if they can get their hands on them) for F-16 JSOW targeting to chew up what the HARM’s and SCALPS haven’t hit, along with the crews.
Or maybe I’m just a wishful idiot. 😊

    • @gamarus0kragh
      @gamarus0kragh 7 місяців тому +2

SEAD would be a really great step up, but as is said in a post above, much of the critical theory is at the planning stage.
Neither Denmark nor I believe the Netherlands have/had the specialized SEAD mission as part of their air forces. Individual pilots may have had some exchanges with USAF F-16 squadrons that had that role but it hasn't been the focus and it is something that will have to follow when the pilots and higher echelons can get the training in the US (or perhaps Sweden, I believe they do train SEAD with their Gripens).

The F-16s are doing exactly what they were designed to be, a simple, agile fighter that gets air-to-air kills.

F16 is the cheap option and there is MANY MANY MANY of them produced. The first ever produced was simple, but F16 grew into a multirole ... what I have been writing on internet for decades .... F16 was a Generals plane truly multi-role but that was the 1990's or maybe 1980s around there that the C version was available. I am sure the manufacturer kept upgrading F16. So .... Whatever F16 with life in the airframe left ... before sending to Ukraine upgrade to same block to confuse the Ukrainians less.
I know F14 is 1974 and F15 is 1975 it just happened that way. F16 story I know less about but I know now F16 latest versions can sort of .. sort of be compared to F15E. You know ... when and aircraft get old and get all the bells and whistles.
That is why Turkey is so satisfied getting new F16s.
