I sailed with Roy Jennings from Portland to Port Fairy in 1983. On the way back near Lady Julia Percy it was very fresh and on the nose, one of the crew was pretty sea sick. As Roy was reaching behind the sea sick man the boat heeled a bit more and Roy went over the side. We had to bear away and then tack back to retrieve Roy and we got him first time. Roy's face wasn't big enough for his smile when he saw us round up. A great boat and a great man.
Hi Garry, Wow, i have just realised you are on UA-cam. So good to see the Ariel getting a well deserved tidy up. i have such a good memory of being the bailer, esky mover & mobile ballast, with the benefit of coming in 2nd or 3rd? in the fleet. All thanks to you organising it, so many years ago!
This is a wonderful bit of marine history. I’m a bit surprised that no bedding compound was used between mating surfaces. Perhaps a regional technique.

I was lucky enough to watch Gary steam bend a trim around a round table. A true craftsman.
Love those old couta boats. The reason I'll back Geelong any time they're not playing the Dockers. Lovely work guys. Keep 'em alive.
