- This is the first in a five part series on mountain flying. In this video we'll talk about development of a good route for mountain flying. Some of the considerations are altitude, aircraft performance, and weather.
this was a great video! I wish there were four more 😊
Great video. Look forward to the rest in the series.
Good video... but now is 2019 and I don't see part 2, 3, 4, 5.
Is the rest of the series posted on UA-cam? Great video!
yes good vid, I live in northern bc,and own a Cessna 152, just doing my recreational lic, training- find your vid usfull.
At 8:50 you talk about climbing at Vy to out climb terrain. Wouldn't you want to be flying at Vx instead?
In a high density altitude environment the only time to use Vx is a climb over an immediate runway obstacle like a tree or tower. Once the plane is 1000 agl it's better to stick to Vy or better and maneuver as needed - engine is cooler and climb is happening faster as Vy,
Okay, got it. Thanks for the clarification.
John Opalko Trouble is, most pilots probably don’t know that Vy decreases about 1% per thousand feet with altitude, and Vx increases about 1/2% with 1000’ altitude gain , so at high density altitudes they should be flying at more like Vx(indicated) just to be climbing at their proper Vy !
@@davidwhite8633 great reply.. Try to tell it to plains pilot.. They think we're fools
@@johnopalko5223 We use straight grade 100 or 80 summer time ... Still can't keep it cool... Vx just forget it... It will blow the engine after 5mins max maybe
