  • Testing out a potential new recurring Archive-ism (a la VHS Vault or Record Rip-Offs) in which we look at (and test) products sold via TV commercial-offers from the 1980's through the early 2000's. First up: the Rejuvenique Facial Toning System.

    Am I the only one that thought that, from first seeing the video, that this was a product of the 1980's as opposed to the 1990's? I mean soft focus, blouses, the tacky furniture, the calming music. Maybe it's just me. XP

    The gels on physical therapy-oriented electrical stimulation devices are intended to *increase* the conductivity, though you're going through much thicker skin to stimulate the muscles on, say, your knee. The thing is, the more you move your face, the more wrinkles you're going to get, so I don't get how anyone would believe stimulating the muscles was supposed to help you look younger-strengthening the underlying muscle structure wouldn't give you a facelift, no matter how much voltage you put through it. (I sense a missed opportunity for a Joker gag in there somewhere.)

    Well it could be worse, you could have bathed in the miracle waters of Jusenkyo springs. Pure Chinese spring water guaranteed to make you look so different, even your mother would not recognize you! (Note: This product may turn you into a member of the opposite sex, animal, or affront to the gods.)
    Great episode by the way. I don't mind if this becomes a regular segment.

    Gel is probably electrode gel to actually improve the conduction. My TENS unit has the same stuff.

  • @louiseogden1296
    @louiseogden1296 10 місяців тому +1

    Actually...it works. Not on my face, but on my swollen ankle by a physiotherapist to reduce the swelling initially so I could go on to maintain the reduction in swelling by exercise. TENS machines also work on the same principle, although in the opposite direction (my husband used one to counteract the pain of cancer and someone else I know with MS uses it to relieve pain, although I can't use it on my foot because the amount of metal scaffolding holding my ankle together would not play well with the TENS machine). Given the need for gel, this is probably very similar to what was used on my ankle to reduce the bursitis.
    The video is hilarious and schlocky, and yeah, they're playing with fire with the FDA, but the actual way it works would probably be similar to the way the physio reduced the swelling in my foot. Given that they were using a device that could interfere with body function and is used in medical contexts, the FDA was right to pursue them over it!!
    And my poor hubby with his TENS machine had to stick it down the front of his trousers and hold it there for half an hour. It wasn't exactly the most dignified of sitting positions and the steroids he was on negated any other...pleasure he got from it, but yeah, you could have been forgiven for giggling at it if you didn't know why he was having to sit like that :(. Just another nasty thing about degenerative diseases -- they take away your appetite, your libido, your strength to fight them, your will to live, your dignity and ultimately your life. 0/10, would not recommend.

    Just a quick chemistry lesson, water is NOT a conductor. Pure unionized water will not conduct at all. It's the salts or other impurities dissolved in the water that make it conductive. "Gels" in general can be considered non-conductive unless specially designed to conduct.

    its trippy to think you can still buy this, and also updated versions with more functions.. scary! personally if i was worried about wrinkles i would just use a bowl of ice water and dip my face in it.. it does feel refreshing, tighten skin.. but blah.. wrinkles are part of aging and im ok with it. but im just a guy who grew up in the mountains of oregon, so yeah never been much of a metrosexual or whatever those guys are called who uses as much cosmetic/beauty stuff as women. scars are just part of life. rock on.
